We got a good deal for our current 2 centre trip to Thailand and the first part of our journey is to stay at this hotel? We have neve stayed in Bangkok itself before so we were very pleased with this one. Its a fab hotel! 4/5star, staff are so friendly, food, service and amenities are just great, drinks are a bit pricey for this part of the world but you expect to pay for luxury surroundings. We are flying off to our 2nd destination tomorrow and hopefully I can submit another positive review for that one too

Room Tip: We are on the 24th floor and overlooking the pool area on the 8th floor, quiet and very, very comfor...

The hotel is situated perfectly for access to Bangkok's best shopping and entertainment venues, having direct access to the MBK shopping centre and, through it, easy, covered walking access to the shopping and entertainment complex around Siam Square. We were there during the Songkran celebrations and feared the soaking that is ritual at that time; being able to stay in the (relative) safety of the malls kept us dry during our visit!
Services in the hotel were generally very good and we enjoyed a nice tea in the cafe downstairs, with very good service and high-quality food and beverages. We did not try any other food in the hotel so cannot comment on that.
The fittings in the room were generally very good, with an extremely comfortable memory foam mattress ensuring very good sleep!
We found two odd things about the hotel's design, one immaterial but the other causing some discomfort in an otherwise very comfortable room. The hotel lobby (where you check in) is not on the ground floor where the taxi disgorges you, so you have to go up a (short) excalator to the first floor where you are met very efficiently and courteously. This is the immaterial design oddity!
The more discomfiting oddity is that the bathroom looks out over the bedroom, separated by an internal window. This has an electric blind that comes down to afford a little privacy but you have to be careful with the lighting to ensure that your partner cannot be distracted by your performance as you use the bathroom. We found this an uncomfortable compromise to allow for the lack of natural light in the bathroom - but then few hotel rooms have bathrooms with windows!
This bathroom issue would be one thing that would encourage us to see what alternative hotels might be available in the Siam area, which is a shame because otherwise this is an excellent hotel that would have merited another star (though charging for in-room internet access is a bit of an unnecessary gouge in what is billed as a 4-star hotel)

This was not my first visit to the Pathumwan Princess, but I chose it for a recent short shopping trip to Bangkok because of my past great experiences and its great location. True, there are more luxurious hotels in Bangkok (and lots of them), but you can't beat the Pathumwan for its great location atop the MBK Centre. If you're in Bangkok to shop, then this is a great choice.
Traffic in Bangkok can be really bad, so the best way to get to the hotel is to take the Express Line train from the airport to Phaya Thai (90 baht for the express and about half that for the regular train). From Phaya Thai you can get the Skytrain to MBK or just jump in a cab - it's a very short trip.
We paid for a regular room and got a great rate using my Visa card (rate included breakfasts and a late checkout). Our room was great, on the 16th floor. Unfortunately on our first night the bathroom flooded. Maintenance man came very quickly and mopped up and said he had fixed it, but we requested another room just in case and were upgraded to a superior room on the 18th floor. This was larger than our original room, with a separate bath and shower and a nice sofa in the room. Hotel staff were very apologetic and helpful.
Breakfasts were ok - eggs to order, plenty of western and Asian food choices. We chose to eat ours in the ground floor restaurant, but we did also check out the breakfast on the 8th floor by the pool - less choices but also quieter.
I used the gym each morning and it was great - plenty of good quality equipment, staff wandering about asking if you need help with anything.
We asked the concierge for advice about going somewhere near the river for dinner and he gave us a good suggestion (River Front), where we had an excellent Thai bbq on the rooftop and watched the action on the river.
Of course the best thing about this hotel is the fact that on the 2nd and ground floors there are doors leading directly into MBK mall, which means you can drop your shopping off or just go back to the hotel to freshen up at any time.

We stayed in an Execuplus suite and it was very luxurious and spacious. All you would expect from a top hotel. We now only ever stay in the Pathumwan when we go to Bangkok. We have tried 3 or 4 others over the years but now keep coming back to the Princess.

Location - Attached to MBK - large shopping complex.
Food - top quality
Service - Generally very good but a few staff let the side down.
Beds - hard - but very comfy after you get 3 doonas under your bottom sheet.
Pool - refreshing after a day of shopping.

Will return - next trip to Bangkok

This is our first visit to the Panthumwan Princess Hotel and WOW it met all our expectations. The location is great for shoppers. The staff are very professional and very friendly. Security checks when you enter the hotel which is also a bonus.

The rooms are fantastic and well appointed. Very very clean and the beds/pillows are so comfortably. Room service for food is plentiful and well priced. The daily buffet breakfast is amazing and the staff so friendly. What I liked the most was that you received your own pot of hot water for tea or coffee so you didn't have to wait for the staff to come around and offer. The selection was also great.

The roof top pool is very clean and well maintained and it was nice to do some shopping then relax by the pool before hitting the shops again.

Room Tip: We had rooms on the 21st floor but I am sure any room would be of high quality.

Great location, right next to MBK shopping centre.
Very close to sky train also.
You can't fault it's location.

Most of the staff are friendly, we did get a few staff members who were a little rude and didn't go out of their way.

Be very very careful speaking to the staff about tailors which they recommend.
I thought it would be wise to trust the hotel, but the staff member (bell boy) we had who won't be named...
recommended his 'friends' tailor, which would ensure he would get a slice of the profit.
Not a great customer experience, when they are trying ti make a good buck by sending you to a fraud of a tailor, who will take your money and provide with a suit which is misaligned and not correct.

The food downstairs is great, no problems and the service is spot on.

Overall very good, but not excellent.

We only stayed one night here on a stopover on our way to Samui however it was perfect for what we wanted. Shopping in MBK was accessible via the resort which was the main reason we stayed here. The room was lovely, clean, stylish and the staff were great, very professional and friendly. The breakfast downstairs was excellent quality and tasted great. We explored the pool areas on the 8th floor, the pool was huge for a city hotel, it also had a spa surrounded by flower gardens and trees and further along the level found tennis courts, squash courts, courtyard areas, a bar, fooseball, basketball hoop as well as a well equipped gym and health centre. We would have utilised these had we been staying longer. Overall very happy with our stay here.
