This hotel, wonderfully located on the river in the center of Bangkok had a wonderful touch to it. The staff was impressively nice and the rooms were pretty big. The hotel has a free boat shuttle to its spa across the river and also to a nearby mall. The buffet was one of the most delicious in Asia (for me) and I would definitely recommend a stay there.

Room Tip: Try getting a room with a view on the river though a balcony isn't worth it.

For a day, a week, a month or a year (or more), this is it! I have spent over 4000 nights in hotels, I have enjoyed most, I have criticized a few since I started reviewing on TripAdvisor as I feel it is the best way to help fellow travelers. There are things to criticize about the Oriental in Bangkok but they are so irrelevant in comparison to the exceptional quality of the service, I would not want to deter anyone from staying at the MO. This is my favorite hotel of all I have stayed in, this is where I will always return when in Bangkok and it is the only hotel where I would consider living.
The breakfast by the River is unique in its setting as in the quality of the buffet, the Spa is bliss, the concierge service is perfect and the general quality of the service a model.
Forget them all, new or not the MO is what you're dreaming of...!

Room Tip: Allow me to keep the tips for myself !

As you would expect from any Mandarin Oriental, the Bangkok edition is a first class hotel with luxurious rooms, nice river views and excellent service.

I'd just avoid the restaurants at the hotel. They are rather mediocre and not a good value for money. That's disappointing for a 5-star hotel. Better jump into a taxi and head into the city for a better culinary experience. Same applies to the bars. A bit mellow and empty most of the time.

I last stayed at the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok over a decade ago, so it was with great surprise that I found a welcome back note from the General Manager on check in. This was a modest preview of the high standards that I happily report are still present at this hotel.

The room that we stayed in had a wonderful view that opened up over the Chao Praya river which is fascinating to watch day or night. At a hotel of this standard, the cleanliness of the room and quality of housekeeping are only worth noting if they fall short of the deservedly high expectations; suffice to say, nothing was noteworthy in these respects.

I had two interactions with the concierges: both took less than two minutes to arrange and resulted in very satisfactory experiences. The concierges were perfect: knowledgeable, efficient and courteous.

Our experience at the hotel ended with a driver who took us to the airport where we were met by a representative who handled our luggage, ensured we were in the right queue and assisted with our check in. We can all find our own way, but it's nice not to have to think about it too much on holiday.

When I next visit Bangkok, I'll be back.

One of the most beautiful hotels in the world. Staff friendly, helpful and nothing too much trouble. It was spotlessly clean and the food excellent.

Would certainly go back.

A must for anyone visiting Bangkok!
