I think that this was our 14th visit to the Oriental Bangkok and it is without doubt our favourite hotel in the world.
From the moment we arrive at the Hotel until the second we depart we are made to feel so very special, the newly refurbished Italian restaurant Ciao is a welcome addition to the terrace and looks uber chic. Can't wait to return later in the year to our home in Bangkok.

The rooms are very comfortable, the restaurants and bars are top notch, the spa is one of the most beautiful in the world, the hotel is filled with stories of famous guests who have made this hotel an essential stop for more than a century. Timeless yet contemporary, classic yet cutting edge, so I chose to stay here!

The Mandarin is not just a hotel, it is an experience!
Everything about our stay was perfect.
Our room overlooked the River. We had flower gifts presented to us as soon as we arrived.
Someone from the Mandarin came to meet us at the airport and looked after us until we were in our rooms.
We had a birthday cake and birthday card waiting for us in our room as it was my partners birthday which they had organised themselves.
There were different fruits provided in the room every day that we could experience.
Breakfast was fantastic. We went for the BBQ night which was unforgettable. We also went for the cooking class across the river at the cooking school which is highly recommended.
We did also make a trip into Bangkok. I think it has to be experienced, I'm glad we did but was glad to get back to the comfort of the Mandarin.
We had our own cleaners on our floor who must have had a magic wand because everytime we returned to our room after breakfast, it was spotless.
The Bamboo Bar is lovely. There is live entertainment there most nights and the snacks provided with the drinks are lovely.
The pool area is the best I have ever experienced. The service is impeccable. I would love to return to Bangkok and would always go back to the Mandarin.
Highly recommended and worth every penny.

We seem to get here about every 4 yrs. but in between & in all other hotels, I dream of the Oriental. This beautiful, historic old lady has it all-location, food, service, charm, service and a staff that attendees to your every need. From the ginger tea after your massage at the spa to the floor butler who noticed I loved Mangosteens & supplied a bowl of them every day in my room, they go out of their way to make you happy. Manager Amanda gave a cocktail for new arrivals our first eve & we met people we enjoyed. Ding with during the week.
Their limo pickup at the airport is a luxury that eases us into the busy city life.
Outstanding seafood at Lord Jim's & authentic Thai in several other restaurants of the hotel.
Sitting on the terrace by the river mornings for breakfast is my idea of heaven.

Just playing catch up on writing up my holiday reviews. We stayed at the Oriental in may 2012 and it was a fabulous & unforgettable experience. On our first evening we were invited to the managers cocktail party, a classy but relaxed affair that gave us the opportunity to chill out after our long journey. We then had the most wonderful meal in the hotels Thai restaurant, expensive but worth every penny for glorious food, superb service and fantastic surroundings.
We had pre-booked for the spa the following morning as a recovery for our jet lag, again, so glad that we did this, it must be ranked as one of the best spas in the world, sheer bliss !
During our stay at the Oriental there was a grand Celebrity wedding. The management did their very best to ensure that this was not too intrusive to other guests, despite the extent of the wedding & invasion of paparazzi.
At all times the hotel staff were courteous, helpful & knew us by name. We were also impressed by the adherence to their high standards, particularly dress code in some areas (especially the high rolling American who believed he was entitled to wear shorts at the Riverside bar after 7pm - he was politely and respectfully re-educated in the hotel standards - that's quality !!)
The hotel boat transfers were fantastic, as was the help & advice given by the Concierge team. They organised our river tour and we felt safe knowing the standard of boat / boatman that was used.
We had a deluxe room in the river wing. It was quiet and of the highest standard.
A most wonderful stay !

After staying at the St Regis Bangkok I would not stay at the MO again.

We had one room here for the price of two at the St Regis. The service was very average and the rooms are really starting to look dated.

I had read reviews that said the service had improved i have to say we did not find that. Even the guy who presses the buttons for the lift looked sad (sans hat too).

The views are great and the breakfasts are still excellent.

If i wanted to be by the river again I would spend less on an hotel and go to the Mo for breakfast.

Just by the way they put us on a smoking floor but the room itself did not smell.
