Staying at the Oriential for three nights in March 2013. Top luxery - book the "arrivel in Style" from the airport in a BMW 730L limo. Very good rom with a butler outside and a exellent breakfast just a meter from the river.

The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok is a superb hotel. The level of service is amazing, the staff is very kind and they are so helpful. The rooms are beautiful, the view's are amazing, the bed's are soft and the bathrooms are very elegant. The restaurant's are fantastic, the food is gourmet and they are always opened. The bakery is a major hit at the hotel. The spa is perfect, they are kind and the spa rooms are very large and pretty. The gym is great. One thing, you have to pay a large price for wifi which is a bit unreasonable. Overall, amazing hotel!

Room Tip: Views are good from 2-5 floor. AC is amazing on 3rd floor.

There were a few minor glitches but this is an extraordinary hotel -- one of the world's great properties -- and you should stay here if at all possible. And even better if your stay includes a Tuesday when management hosts a cocktail reception for guests.... What distinguishes great from good is how the problems are addressed. Mine were minor (like A/C setting not left as promised) but service recovery was wonderful.... I was assigned an ordinary room which was well appointed and very comfortable. I can only imagine what an upgrade or suite might be like! My butlers were very helpful and attentive -- especially when I didn't feel great and opted to stay in one evening.... What I remember most were: the great guest relations staff who made my stay special; how delicious the breakfast spread was overlooking the river (including the best hotel croissants I have EVER tasted [even in Paris] and best crafted cappucinos this side of Italy!); how delicious every morsel of food was at every restaurant in the hotel that I ate at; the beauty and peacefulness of the adult pool; and the extraordinary staff who remembered me and my needs and preferences from one day to the next!... While I hardly think of myself as a feminist, I must confess that one of the things I loved best about this hotel is that it's general management has been entrusted to an extraordinary English woman. I am confident that the guest experience will get even better under her stewardship!

I just love staying here. Peaceful, classy, elegant. Great rooms, a terrific night's sleep. Love the breakfast terrace and the boat across to the restaurant/spa/fitness center. Unfortunately only one night this time, but hoping to come back soon. Maybe there are more modern, luxurious hotels in Bangkok these days, but frankly I have never really felt the need to look elsewhere. Can't wait to come back soon.

Sadly I have to differ in my opinion of the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok. We booked for ten nights based on our wonderful experience at the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong and Trip Advisor comments. Obviously our experience was far more negative than many of you.

Our room was a Deluxe Room and as soon as we entered I knew I did not want to stay in it. There is a wooden slatted blind right next to one side of the bed, through which you can see anybody sitting on the toilet in the bathroom. You cannot close the slats sufficiently for privacy. There was a rip in one of the cushion covers on the bed and the desk legs were covered in dust. The lady servicing the room had a white jacket on with the hem hanging down and a rather scruffy bandage on her ankle. This shows lack of management. Not at all professional in the "Mandarin Way". I asked for an upgrade and was told there was nothing available and was offered a bottle of wine instead.

The atmosphere in the hotel was more "package tours" to me and it was very crowded so obviously doing good business. We ate at their Thai Restaurant on the river the first night and although the atmosphere was nice on the terrace, the food was mediocre.

We decided to check out the next day and move to the Peninsula which is far more professional and more peaceful and beautifully decorated. On check out the Manager offered me an upgrade but I explained that it was too late for that.

This was our first visit to Bangkok for the wife and myself although not our first time in Thailand.

We have stayed in a number of Mandarin Oriental Hotels and this is the best. Located on the river near a public jetty for the river ferries all of the expected Mandarin standards of service and facilities were very much in evidence. We had a deluxe room with a river view incorporating a butler service. All the staff we encountered were pleasant, professional and helpful.

There is an extensive riverside terrace with a variety of dining options which is a great place for breakfast and dinner. The Hotel has it's own shuttle boats which take you across the river to the rest of the Hotel and also to a local shopping centre jetty, public ferry jetty and Skytrain station.

Throughout our stay we could not fault the quality of the accommodation, service and facilities. The King of Bahrain was there at the same time so if it is good enough for him what can you say.

We dined one night in the Hotel Sala Rim Naam which has a traditional Thai menu and entertainment and was just fantastic. Plenty of photo opportunities with the Thai performers after the show.

Through our local tour representative we booked a river cruise which included a snack buffet on a converted Rice Barge and this was a lovely relaxing afternoon on our first day in town. We also went to a Siam Niramit night comprising a buffet and show and tour of a replica Thai village. This is something we would normally avoid but the show on a huge theatre stage with special effects was brilliant.

A visit to the Grand Palace is a must but as everyone suggests go early in the morning to avoid the crowds. In our view the best parts of the city are located around the big Hotels, Shopping Malls and Temples. Many other areas are pretty decrepit, pavements are narrow, uneven and crowded and the traffic fumes and congestion are horrendous. If you travel anywhere by road you spend long periods stuck in traffic. Whenever you can use the Skytrain or the river ferries but be aware that you need to be agile to get on and off the latter.

We had a great stay in Bangkok and the Mandarin Oriental was a superb base.

Room Tip: If you can book a river view room.

This is the best of the best in terms of service and style.
Our 3rd trip and the food, staff and location on the river is just superb.
The rooms are older but well maintained as a top comfortable 5 star hotel

Room Tip: In the original tower
