“Perfect place to stay”
Reviewed 27 December 2013

We stayed for two nights as this wonderful hotel. They really think about everything before one even thinks about it oneself. Staff are very helpful, the hotel itself is just beautiful. A perfect combination. We loved the pool, breakfast, reception, running track, ferry service to the night market, the famous bar (lovely music), the restaurant. Just perfect. Hope to be back soon.

I lived in Thailand for four years in the 1990s, and I know Bangkok well. In November 2012, I was in Bangkok for a conference, and we got a special rate at the Oriental, which allowed us to stay there for a whole week! I can't praise this hotel enough. The service is exquisite, never over-bearing. The rooms are lovely without being fussy. We had an amazing view over the Chao Phraya from ours.
There is a perception that the Oriental is "not very Thai" or "not the real Thailand". I disagree: although it is, of course, a very privileged and rarified atmosphere, I found it had not lost its Thai identity. In many ways, this hotel is not like your average five-star that could be anywhere. Apart from its wonderful historical heritage, Thai touches are everywhere. For example, every day, a new bowl of Thai fruit is delivered to your room. And in the late afternoon, a distinctive Thai snack is brought to you. There are beautiful Thai fabrics and works of art everywhere, and the staff have that wonderful quirky sense of humour and fun that I found in many of my colleagues when I worked in Thailand in the 1990s.
The breakfast on the veranda was superb—we sat next to Cliff Richard one morning! The food, both Thai and western, is magnificent.
There is a free river boat service that will take you to the nearest Skytrain stop, amongst other useful points.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view over the river—endlessly fascinating.

We spend three nights at the Mandarin Oriental hotel and everything was close to perfection to make it an unforgettable stay. It is a splendid compound ideally located right on the Chao Praya River. A beautiful architecture with fantastic terraces right on the bank of the river where the buffet breafast is served and where you can relax over a light dinner at night. The room and bed were extremely comfortable. Service is more than excellent in the sense that there are a lot of little extra things that make a big difference from the butler on each floor that calls you by your name and takes care of every detail to staff that followed up on our request to change our flight reservations until it got done.

Mandarin Oriental once was the best hotel on the globe. Maye be not anymore (Dubay or so?) but is still more then fantastic to stay here. We stayed a week in the Mandarin Room, a spacious room, view on the river and the city, and everything was100% OK.
As a guest you are important and everyone of the staff is at your service. After one day almost every staff member knows your name or roomnumber. There is one person which is the contact for your roomservice or questions. Bed, shower, seats, desks, all very good. The airport service was bizar, they waited at the luggage band, and you said this is my luggage and they took it for you, then on a little car to the exit and in the limousine. Waw.
More ten great breakfast at the riverside, also perfect lunches and buffet-dinners. Great, great, great.
Of course it has its price, but all worth it. Just one remark, Strange that this hotel has very poor Wifi, and you have to pay for it. That's stupid with such pprices for the room. On request they tried to omprove it, but it didn' work.

Room Tip: I think any room will suit.

For this fourth visit at this amazing legendary palace, with our family joining, we decided to stay 14 nights. It was the longest stay in the same hotel we ever had. Believe me, it was too short!
Words are not sufficient to describe the magic of the Oriental. From the moment you arrive and hear “welcome back home”, after a very comfortable limousine ride, to the moment you very sadly have to live, you just experienced perfection and exquisite refinement. Nowhere else in the world you feel such sincere care and attention to guest´s full satisfaction. No other palace kept so well its soul and identity as does the Oriental years after years. Service is topmost and personalized (our butler was fantastic, always available to make our stay the most enjoyable), the rooms (a State Room and a Superior) are beautifully decorated (these sensational flower bouquets…) and perfectly equipped, the little treats you receive always and everywhere (in the room, at the swimming pool, at the restaurants) are delightful, the jazzy ambiance at the Bamboo bar is unique, the food served at all restaurants is perfectly prepared and incredibly tasty (extravagant buffet for lunch at Lord Jim, wonderful new Italian restaurant Ciao by the river, etc…), the boat rides to the sky train are always romantic, as well as the quartet playing at night in the lobby (with its amazing central bouquet, substituted by the most impressive Christmas tree, all in white and blue flowers, a few days before we lived), the Director´s cocktail in the Author´s Lounge is an example of refinement and demonstration of how much all the staff are committed in offering the best for their guests, etc…; we would like to address in particular our very special thanks and congratulation to Ms. Mayuree, Guest Relations Director, who contributed by her grace and extreme kindness to make our stay as memorable and fabulous as possible.
We´ll definitely be back home, at La Grande Dame, as we already miss her…

This Hotel is just excellent. The breakfast time could be a bit longer (we are on vacation:-)))) but the rest is just like you expect from a good hotel.
We had Dinner on the other side if the river and it was delicious.
The building from the outside looks oldish but the service, the rooms and beds are excellent.

Service was excellent, as our butler, the life attendant all knew our names. They certainly looked into every single detail, as my family and myself felt pampered like kings.

The lobby in the hotel in gorgeous, and I had lots of Kodak moments with the lovely architecture seen around the Hotel. Only have good things to say about the Mandarin, and they have a 3 Star Michelin Restaurant to add to their amenities.

We took the family room during our stay, and the kids loved it. Although there were protests in the city, the hotel is further from the main tourist belt, and there was not a single hint of any disturbance in the city. This is the best place to relax and get away from it all! :)
