Elegant hotel, easy to get to on published transport form BKK airport. Short walk to nightlife and restaurants. Perfectly clean, staff extremely friendly and polite. Great amenities, restaurant and spa in hotel both lovely and well priced for the quality.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights , it was heaven we never wanted to go out , the rooms , food , pool , restaurants were first class . The staff were so polite and could not do enough to please you
The decor and upkeep was second to none
My only complaint is I had to pay for wi Fi , these days it is a given in the uk it is free in macdonalds but you have to pay in the mandarin , wifi is no longer an extra but a given
Regardless would deff stay again a bit pricey but in another league
Well done mandarin !

I started to stay at The Oriental 35 years ago but stopped 7 years ago when its location was no longer convenient for purposes of business, shopping, and restaurants. However, with a conscious decision not to stay in and not leave the hotel this trip, I checked into a State Room for a long weekend. It was the right decision. Living in the hotel and using its facilities made me realize that this is more a top tier Resort rather than another city hotel. The key to enjoying this hotel is to Live In.

The management makes frequent reference to the hotel as La Grande Dame. It has indeed aged gracefully. For me, there have actually not been many major changes. The changes are subtle but when added up, have served to remove any weaknesses and have now made the hotel difficult to fault. The State Room remains elegantly furnished and new technology has been subtly added - there, but not in your face, the way it should be. The public areas are classy.

The Veranda which is effectively the coffee house retains many of the old favorites on the menu with a few additions to match current food trends. Food is delicious, presentation is stylish, service is top class. Breakfast at the Terrace is top quality, and its location by the busy river is quite unique. The poached eggs were perfect! Ciao, the Italian restaurant, cleverly offers the classics and the chef's creations. The restaurant is chic and being by the river is a huge plus. But whilst the service and presentation were compatible with the rest of the hotel, I did not find the food particularly special. There are other better Italian restaurants in Bangkok. Lord Jim's buffet luncheon has increased significantly in price but has maintained its wide variety of cuisine distinguished by top quality ingredients in a dining room which has not changed since it was last renovated to its current look - but why change a good ambiance? Service is of course excellent. Normandie is stuffy with its "jackets for men" policy. The menu offers top quality French cuisine again with the best ingredients and a superb winelist. However, desserts are not exciting and if you are not too fussy, some of what is offered is available at Lord Jim's. Here, service is at the very highest level.
Throughout the day, I lazed by the swimming pool. You cannot be more pampered than at this pool. The ambiance is relaxed and what one encounters at a top-class beach side resort which makes this so distinctive.

Without a doubt, the outstanding feature of The Oriental is its service. Congratulations to the current GM who has managed to raise this hotel to even higher levels than the already high ones set by the famous Khun Kurt.

This is the best place to be for a top class pampering!

My only complaint is that Internet access by wifi is chargeable. Its ridiculous and the hotel should not impose any charges.

Totally loved my visit despite the fact that the pool had to be closed for maintenance. Sitting reading by the children's pool was different and fun in a more intimate setting. The hotel staff everywhere were efficient and friendly. Breakfast was not included in the room rate but sitting out on the terrace overlooking the busy river was entertainment at any time of day and the food and service there were always first class. This is a haven after a busy day's sight seeing.

This has to be my new favourite hotel in the world. You can read all the other reviews on the quality of the accommodation, the food etc. but no where in the world will you find such hospitable and attentive staff. All the staff made our stay memorable and enjoyable.

The added edge to this hotel is its history with the old 1920s 'Authors Wing' a homage to the classical days where writers, poets and the like would congregate and exchange ideas.

Cannot recommend the the Mandarin Oriental any more highly! I will be back in March.
