For the past ten years I have been staying at the Oriental on my trips to Bangkok. and have always found it to be outstanding in service with a wonderful and caring staff. Often I have arrived a bit after midnight arriving on flights from the east coast of the U.S. and have consistently been checked in promptly with my luggage arriving quickly.

Since I am not a sun person I thoroughly enjoy the cabanas that were created when the pool was renovated several years back and can spend most of the day lounging there enjoying the area. By the small pool one of the gardening staff even provided me instruction on folding the petals on the lotus blossoms. This is so typical of the friendliness and genuineness of the staff at the Oriental. Right now I am planning to stay there in April for a short and wonderful vacation.

Every major world capital has their "Grand Dame" hotel; the hotel that tells you the city's history through its architecture, location and staff.

That sense of history and unwavering identity is what makes these hotels so popular. Every guest feels like they are a part of the story, and can follow in the steps of the famous guests that came before.

You can feel that history at the MO Bangkok, from the moment you enter the lobby, to when you walk into the Author's Lounge for the Manager's Cocktail Party, to when you are sitting in your room watching the barges float down the Chao Phraya .

Is the lobby the most spectacular? No. Are the rooms the most high tech and modern? No. Are the restaurants avant garde and edgy? No. Is the pool the biggest? No.

Plain and simple, this is old school. Understated luxury, with a focus on customer service.

Rather than opting whatever the flavour of the month might be, the MO Bangkok accomplishes what I can only hope to achieve - being unforgettable, while still be able to age gracefully.

That is why it has been here for over 130 years, and will likely outlast every other hotel in Bangkok.

Service is what separates best luxuary hotels from the also runs. This one has the best service in the world I ever stayed in. Every one there smiles when they meet you. Every detail is not left to chance. Restaurant is excellent. Breakfast by the riverside in the morning is refreshing. Originally, I was slightly concerned about the gym being across the river. The boat ride there is short and very frequent and pretty much on demand. I actually enjoyed the ride.

I have stayed at the Oriental many a times and from my first visit a few years to the last one last November, the hotel is always coming up with something extra every time to astonish us.
Staff recognise you and address you by name, the rooms are always fantastic, the food, spa, perfect.
We have travelled around the world staying in top hotels but none comes anywhere near the Oriental in Bangkok.
We hope it never changes as perfection is practically impossible these days but I can assure you the Oriental is there.

2 nights here were excellent, good old fashioned and grand hotelkeeping. Every so often we like to stay at the best and The Oriental is right there.

Good rooms, size, cleanliness, fabulous amenities and the nightlight under the bed is a thoughtful touch.

Loved the pool.

Didn't really use the restaurants as we already have our favourites in Bangkok but the breakfast is top quality.
