Our stay in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel was a very fitting end to our trip on the Eastern Oriental Express. The hotel was superb, the staff very attentive without being over bearing, overall a very high standard of service and a pleasure to stay at the hotel.

Staying for the first time in this renowned hotel on an Amex Centurion package (second night free), we found the hotel not nearly up to the standard we expected. Entering the room, saw  an empty medicine strip obviously thrown by the previous guest. The bathroom looked elegant and inviting and I decided to take a hot bath after a long flight. On filling the tub, the water was yellow in color. Either rusty pipes or fresh water mixed with sewerage (albeit there was no smell) or hotel using filtered water of Chao Phrya river flowing  along the hotel. Made a complaint and after profuse apologies and instant gathering of crew inside the bathroom to fix, we were told water issue was solved. A bouquet of flowers awaited us for the inconvenience caused. Next day and another filling of the tub, the water was just as yellow. Showed the tub to Butler who turned red in  embarrassment and appeared genuinely sorry. On booking, King bed was asked for, Amex booking confirmation showed also to be a king bed. Upon reaching the hotel, surely. A large comforter covered the huge bed. Only after bed turndown at night, we discovered it was twin beds. A parting gift from the hotel: after we left the hotel we discovered we were charged for two nights and not one night as given in Amex booking. Hotel otherwise was nice, elegant and friendly although obviously not to the standard it must have been famous for in the past.

A very short stay in Bangkok and the Mandarin Oriental was perfect. The hotel driver (Tony) took us to all the shopping spots we needed to go and was knowledable of the area's.
The room had a lovely river view we arranged a late check out which we paid half of the normal rate.
The China House Restuarant was one of my highlights of my stay in Thailand. The ambience and the food were supurb.
The staff are all friendly. The hotel has a great vibe at the bar and pool area.

Another difficult review to write. I look back on my pictures and memories of this stay and I can't find anything wrong of note. However, the reputation of this hotel in terms of regularly being voted #1 in the world and the reality are a bit off. Again, there is nothing wrong in terms of facilities, staff, etc. It just doesn't match-up with top notch Tokyo hotels for example (including the Peninsula and it's sister hotel, The Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo).

The common facilities are amazing. The furnishings, the buidling and the art are all awesome. Our room was in the old building. It consisted of a breakfast nook, a living area and an upstairs bedroom and bathroom. The room was a bit small but very nicely laid out and furnished. The only issue (and a small one, at that) was that you could hear the plumbing goings-on of the rest of the hotel.

The food in the restuarants was very good.

The location is very convenient for the river taxis which we use almost daily. There is a street food vendor right in front of the river taxi pier with really tasty (and cheap!) food. It's about a ten minute walk to a 7-11 (north side of Silom Road almost to the 2nd stage expressway) and a bit further to a full-sized grocery (further south on Charoen Krung, near Central Point Silom).

i was only as a stop over for my vacation to phuket. But thoose two days at the mandarin were a vacation at itsself !! fantastic staff, always friendly, they could really read your wishes from your face !!! pool area great, we took the Hotel boat to have a dinner cruise on the river which was outstanding. You could see that the Building has his best days...but the staff is so excellent that you dont think about anymore. We booked the airport pick up which was fantastic in a cool mercedes car for a very rseonable price instead of troubling by cap ride. I am looking forward to stay again my next trip to Thailand at the mandarin

Can't understand why this is not rated #1. Superbly located on the Chao Phraya river, gorgeous comfortable suites, excellent restaurants and the very best staff anywhere. We were treated like royalty from the moment we were escorted from the airport to the drive to our next destination. Truly a world class experience.

Simply one of the best hotels in the world.
Warm welcome, exceptionel and helpful service especially by our floor concierge.
Luxury rooms with wonderful view on Chao Praya.
The atmosphere is a little bit distinguished and arrogant.
There is no other hotel in the world with such a history and attitude.
