We would absolutely recommend this special hotel to anyone staying in Bangkok. The metropolitan room with 'metropolitan' breakfast is the signature experience. We also enjoyed the spa and the good-sized swimming pool. For the health conscious, there is a healthy cafe on 1st floor serving healthy food all day.
The location is next to Banyan Tree and Sukothai hotels, and 10minutes walk from the famous night market / metro station / skytrain station.

I did enjoy this hotel and might stay again, because it is very peaceful and quite. The rooms are large, clean and stylish. Beds very comfortable. Did not use the pool although it looked good but has no sun for it's surrounded by buildings. The staff was difficult. Seemed they could not find our reservation although they decided to let us have a room at $200. a night after 23 hrs of travel, so we could rest. The room was booked with AMEX points. I started to joke that they're slogan was " just say no" . The restraunt was good by rather dull and overpriced like the rest of the hotel. They could definantly improve in the service dept, plus I hate feeling nickeled and dimed for everything, water, Internet, ect.

this was our hotel to get us acclimatised to thailand after our flight from the UK. IT was beautiful and the staff were great.

We suffered bad jetlag and spent most of the nights wide awake browsing the web in reception or chilling in our room - there's no better place to have jetlag in bangkok! The pool and spa are wonderful - nice way for us to prepare for our overnight train ride down to the islands. We had to book the next hotels on our trip and the staff were fantastic. they made calls to other hotels for us as well as to bus/train companies. We couldn't have done it so quick without them.

The toiletries in the bathroom were gorgeous - i'll be going back to buy some to take home!

Several things went wrong during our stay. Our reservation stated that internet access was included in our room. That was actually a misprint because it's not included in the room rate, you have to pay $10/day for it. We pointed out the incorrect phrasing on our reservation to a receptionist, but she insisted that we'd have to pay (incidentally, the free WiFi in the lobby is spotty and non-existent in the restaurant). Our shower had mildew and when we requested that it be cleaned the housekeeper said it was "impossible" to get out. Breakfast was mediocre and overpriced (don't order the ricotta pancakes, they're dry and flavorless). One evening, a doormen put us in a taxi and a) didn't make sure the driver knew where we were going or b) check if his meter was on. When we arrived at our destination the driver tried to charge us 5 times the usual fare. When we returned to the hotel we alerted the hotel staff of the shady taxi driver and careless doorman and they said they'd investigate. No one spoke to us about it again.

Since our return I've written to the management and received an apology and a promise that our breakfasts will be refunded. That was over six days ago and I have yet to see any refund post to my account.

We came out of the arrival hall and looked around for a representative from the hotel. Finally we spotted a man dressed in black holding up a sign with the word 'Metropolitan'. We approached him and after he checked our names against his list, he led us out of the airport of a waiting car. There, a chauffeur was cleaning a shiny navy blue Mercedes E-class and when we arrived, the representative and chauffeur helped us to load our bags into the boot of the car. They were both very friendly and helpful. The chauffeur greeted us with a Thai greeting before driving off to the hotel.

The car drove up to the elevated porch of the hotel and stopped in front of the tall main door. We alighted and the porter arranged for our bags to be brought to our rooms. The lobby design was very contemporary and very classy with high ceilings and glass walls. It felt like a home.

The room was huge. It was decorated with dark wood. There was a bed and a huge living area. Electronics included a 32" LCD TV and a bose sound system. The bathroom was huge (though a little plain). Overall, we had absolutely no complains over the room.

There was breakfast for one person per room. The breakfast was very good, with a main dish and a wide selection of dishes over the counter (buffet). The buffet even had expensive food such as parma ham, which was very satisfying. The breakfast was splendid though a tad expensive since it was only covered for one person.

The location is great. You can take a cab anywhere. Cabs only cost a few bucks per trip, even for long trips. Beware of drivers who do not turn on the meter. We had a bad experience with a nasty cab driver.

Finally, we left in a very luxurious Mercedes S-class (latest model) feeling very satisfied.

I enjoyed my stay at the Metropolitan. I had been elsewhere in Thailand before coming here and found the cool city atmosphere a great contrast to beach and sea days. The room (Metropolitan) was very comfortable with a good city view - maybe we lucked out there reading previous reviews, breakfast great, dinner in the Cyan restaurant impressive, although as with nearly all hotel restaurants it is a shame they are so often too quiet. Didn’t use the pool, but the spa/steam rooms were good as was the service generally during our stay. Taxis, sky train, tuk-tuk and especially the river boats were a lot fun and so cheap and close by to get around and explore the city – and we found coming back to this peaceful and relaxing hotel a very nice experience. It doesn’t matter that you are slightly further away from the bright lights as long as you have planned eating before you return/going by taxi somewhere in the evening or want to eat in the hotel as there isn’t a huge amount food wise within walking distance. One slightly dodgy restaurant recommendation from the staff, which turned out to be a touch too touristy for us, but that’s personal taste I guess and the cocktails at the met bar made up for it. Overall a very enjoyable stay, but how odd is it that a hotel of this kind with the competition that there must be in Bangkok for good hotels wants to charge (a not insignificant amount) for internet in your room?

The hotel is on South Sathorn Road, right next to the Banyon Tree. This is the area where most of the embassies are. The lobby is understated but beautiful. Staff are wonderfull, very helpful and extreamly polite. The metropolitan rooms are huge! They have plenty of light and have dark wooden floors. There are 2 restuarants and a bar. They all serve excellent food (but not cheap). The nearest skytrain stop is a 10 minute walk away. I have been in Bangkok many times, and after my stay at the Metropolitan, I now would not stay anywhere else.
