“Clean and Neat, Central and Convenient”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

This little hotel in the famous South SATHORN Rd is clean and neat and very convenient. The staff are attentive and helpful. Wifi is available. The rooms are equipped with average sized rooms, clean sheets and good air conditioning. The bathrooms and clean. I brought a part of fifteen clients here from the USA. Something the management did not include in their website is that their swimming pool is beng repaired until August !! Unimaginable!

Stayed for 4 nts from 22nd April, location great only minutes walk from train station, Sathorn pier & shops/markets. Hotel staff friendly & helpful, rooms clean & decent size, pool, gym & sauna very good. Breakfast good with choices of food & eggs cooked to order. Hotel is older & has repairs going on but a comfortable stay overall for the price. Wireless internet signal could be better.

Stayed here for just 2 nights during a weekend in Bangkok. We wanted something cheap and cheerful and this fit the bill. We got a double room for just $32 on Agoda and were very happy with our choice. It's located 2 minutes from a BTS station, making it convenient to get anywhere in the city. We checked in late at night, but the staff was very friendly and helpful. The hallways do look a bit tired, but the rooms have been redone and are clean and modern. They even offer free drinks and snacks from their minibar, which was nice. We used room service on the second night as we were too lazy to go out, and it was fine. There is a big supermarket just around the corner for snacks. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was fine--though it could use some updating, as we had to run the shower for 10 minutes to get warm water. We saw a bug or two, but it was downtown Bangkok during the summer so it didn't bother us. They had a public pool but we didn't use it. For our purposes of a short trip in Bangkok and the need to conveniently get to the airport by public transport, we were happy with our stay. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Apparently not all the rooms have finished undergoing renovation, so maybe ask for one that has.

My wife and I had stayed elsewhere at other hotels in BangRak district. In choosing Astera Sathorn we had some idea about proximity to Saphan Taskin BTS Station, Sathorn Pier, and Robinsons Store, with adjacent BangRak Bazaar.Having noted a tip from Travel Forum, I elected to have ourmetered taxi drop us off at the BTS staion. Following those directions, we set off. At the main road, we turned right, waited at the VERY busy traffic lights to turn red. From there we continued on up South Sathorn Road, keeping both the overhaed concreted BTS rail track and Expressway on our left. It was only a short walk. At the Astera we were greeted warmly, both at the front door and at reception. I make a point when asked to pay up front to see our room.We were happy with what we saw and we settled in. The room (No.601)was spacious with a big fridge, king size bed, etc. We were there for 14 nights in Mid February 2013. We were always accorded a welcoming smile at the foyer and reception. The breakfast was adequate but sometimes cold since the staff allowed the flames under the warming trays to extinguish. The egg station was great! The staff in the breakfast room were friendly and obliging. We came to observe that at leasr one coach would pull in lateish at night. That's when we were woken up as the new guests came along the hallway, talking for a lenghtly time, saying good night and then slamming doors. We did have problems getting hot water to shower. I expect this was because the bus passengers were getting up early to get away in the coach(or maybe it's an inherent problem). As for transport to the airport. If you enquire at reception, give them notice, a staff member will flag down a vacant metered taxi. Our fare to Don Muang Airport cost 280 Baht, at about 7.50am, but remember it costs more as the morning traffic builds up. Overall,we can say Astera Sathorn Hotel was good value. We would stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 601 suited us.

They gave us the the 8th floor. You can tell the that the hotel is renovating. The first 3 floors look really nice but not above 3 rd floor. Our room was really old looking and run down. There are 2 positive things about this hotel: bed and location. This hotel is close to everything that we visited. It is close to water taxi and BTS and subway. I guess this hotel is ok, if you just there to sleep. We only slept there at night. The bed is very comfortable and clean. There are no need to buy breakfast at the hotel. In Thailand, there is plenty cheap and delicious food on the street.

I've stayed at this hotel at separate times in the last few years. I'm always remembered by the staff which proves to be a very warm welcome. I've always truly enjoyed my stay with great clean beds & a fabulous shower but this time I noticed the general wear and tear of the hotel was shabby and needs updating. There was a clump of woman's hair just outside my room and there was water marks on my room floor. I still very much enjoyed my stay as it is a nice hotel with a great location but the management need to to be careful they don't get left behind when there's better hotels out there...
