Crowne Plaza Bangkok Lumpini Park
Ranked #74 of 896 Hotels in Bangkok
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 15 January 2011

It was our third time staying here, the first two when it was a Pan Pacific. We were a bit apprehensive about the management change to Crowne Plaza, but we found things to be the same. We booked a club floor deluxe room and I recommend the upgrade as the included benefits are many:

500baht daily laundry/dry cleaning credit
Internet access
Local calls
Breakfast, either in the club lounge or Panorama Restaurant
Happy 3 hours (5-8pm) with substantial hors d'oeuvres and full open bar, including made-to-order specialty cocktails
Late check-out
Coffee, tea and soft drinks all day long

The room was spacious and the bathroom was huge. Toiletries are still Aigner! We had a great view of both the horse racing track and Lumpini Park. The comfortable bed was made "American-style" with a flat sheet between the comforter and the fitted sheet ... only hotel of the two-week trip where we didn't have to request that. Pillow menu. Service was always superb, especially Bee in the club lounge (a familiar face we remembered from our last visit).
The front desk staff were very helpful in planning our day of sightseeing in Bangkok, giving us specific information on sites and the best order to visit in order to avoid traffic. SkyTrain, subway and Patpong are all within five minutes walk from the front door, so the location is perfect. Taxi to the airport on Friday afternoon took 40 minutes and cost less than USD11, including 70baht in tolls.
Breakfast in the Panorama was spectacular, four lines of food and beautiful views over the park. The rooftop swimming pool has nice blue tile and huge chaise loungers - perfect for relaxing after a long day dealing with the city. The service was top-notch, from housekeeping to pool staff. The daily laundry allowance was a nice extra - they even repaired a small tear in my sweater. The Panorama had a nice 3-course prix fixe lunch menu for about USD10 with many choices.

A few hints ...
Silom Road has many, many places to get foot massages, Thai massages, facials, etc. Don't use them for anything other than foot massages. You'll get more professional treatment and cleaner facilities at Central World or one of the other large malls. The legit spas are only slightly more expensive.
Although taxis are vey inexpensive, the SkyTrain is usually quicker.
The laundry/dry cleaning credit is non-accumulative, so send down 2-3 garments right after you check in so you don't lose your first day's credit.
Unlike some hotels, the hors d'oeuvres were constantly replenished during happy hour at the club lounge, so don't break your neck to get there when it begins at 5pm. You will be able to enjoy the full selection even if you show up at 7:30pm.
ATMs in Thailand charge 150baht (USD5) for each withdrawal, so avoid small transactions. Also, exchange booths will refuse banknotes which are not in "mint" condition.
If you're going on a sidetrip, the Crowne Plaza will be happy to securely store some of your luggage until you return.
Bangkok's Chinatown is total, crowded chaos. Some people will like that, others will not.

The next time we are in Bangkok, the Crowne Plaza Lumpini Park will continue to be our hotel of choice.

As in its previous life as the Pan Pacific, this is a lovely hotel, with a great location, brilliant staff and very good quality public areas. The food is, for Bangkok ( we lived there for six years) average to poor, nothing to make you ill, but just boring and limited.

The rooms are great, beds and other furnishings are excellent, but the TV is frustrating beyond imagination. The whole system is pointlessly complex and then, having mastered the controls, you find that half the channels are off line and / or you get an error message that the movie you requested is unavailible, please try later" . The staff do what they can, as always, but the liason with the external provider is non existant.

Overall a lovely place, it just needs the F&B given a little snap and the cable to be changed to become absolute 5 star plus as a hotel.

Pan pacific make me feel I am at home; this place was great and so was the stuff. I think It is the ideal place if you want to discover Bangkok Island or simply enjoy a shopping weekend in Bangkok."
Everything was very nice, great service, great rooms, from its prime location to its outstanding service-this is a must have item that really should be free in a hotel of such international standing.

What a luxury, true 5 star, in service and facilities. Only a few detractors.

Love how attentive and helpful staff are. Many staff always on hand to lend a hand. Appreciate their fawning manner.
The gym is great, with all machines needed to get a full body workout.
Restaurants have excellent variety of choice, especially breakfast. Dinner's menu was sad, but with many great restaurants outside this didn't matter. Took in the separate Chinese and Japanese restaurantes. Great cuisine and service.
Internet speed in the rooms was fast enough for skype calls, reliable and incl in the price.

Looked to have a lot of Japanese business clientelle, plus a good mix of other Asian nationalities.

Only negatives are:
1. electricity gets completely cut from your room when you exit. So no charging your pc or other devices while you're out.
2. aircon is either on and cold or off. So no ability to change your room temperature.
3. only 1 front desk member of staff was clueless, giving the wrong answers to simple questions that other staff were subsequently able to answer correctly, and not speaking enough English.
Not expensive on international scales, but pricey in local terms.

I was in bangkok for an official trip. I had the choice of various hotels. But i chose to stay at the pan pacific due to it's prominent location. The access to the bts station was very helpful.

The shopping district of silom and chidlom is also very near. Besides the hotel is robinsons store, as also silom central. At a distance of 15 minutes by walk, we arrive at the shopping district of bangkok !!!

The stay in the hotel was very comfortable. The room was large enough and the queen size bed was almost king size. The toiletries provided were complete and elaborate. The room was very well lit with a great view of the city. Room service is very good and so is the food. The laundry service is prompt and clothes are returned crisply ironed.

The place comes alive after sunset as just behind the hotel is the night market of pat pong. This place has the best night life of bangkok. The roadside bazaar offers a variety of items and good bargains as well.

Overall I had a great experience and am looking forward to visiting the hotel again !!!!

stayed at the pan many times-this hotel for the price is priceless. On arrival you are whisked up to the 25 floor where the reception is on a very personel basis. You are escorted to a private desk where all the usual formalities are prosessed. I was very suprised on arrival at my room my luggage was there before me. The room is perfect-nice wide screen tv-writing desk-spotless bathroom with all the kit-and the bed is to die for-egyptian cotton sheets with pure 100% down duvets and pillows-guaranteed sleep-fantastic views and the breakfast is your choice. The pool area is tranquill-the staff are always about to help-nightlife close by is patpong-walking distance-international food can be purchased at the hotel (at a price) or in many restaurants nearby-i cant praise this hotel enough-there are far more expensive 5star hotels around-but if ive yet to find a better one than the pan pacific

We were lucky to be put in this hotel when we booked a "Mystery Hotel" on a website which guaranteed Silom Road location and 5 star standard. We were not disappointed. Two rooms for 56 Euros each per night. Friendly, smiling, helpful staff; comfortable beds, superb rooftop pool and ideal location, 15 mins walk to Lumpini night market or 3 mins to nearest sky train. Will definitely return, if we can get similar rate.
