We spent 5 days in this hotel, combination pleasure / business in the Thai Suite (18th floor) and had a great time. There's not much not to like at this hotel.
If one had to name something; location is not close to great shopping and Spa is overpriced. As we're mainly interested in a good, relaxing massage and don't want to pay a lot more for the "fancy" spa experience/the "trimmings", we did not even try it out because of price.
instead, we booked a 90 minutes oil massage on 2 occasions at the nearest Health Land Spa outlet, where we had an excellent massage for Bht 1700 per person (compared to Bht 5800 per person in the hotel).
Nevertheless, would stay again at the Peninsula without hesitation.

We stayed for 2 nights in 29-30 April 2011 in a 1-bedroom suite. Simply marvelous view of the river. Room was a generous size with 2 toilets! Fruit basket and complimentary biscuits and chocolates added a nice touch. Buffet breakfast was good with a generous spread.

Lovely riverside location for this impressive hotel. The staff are delightful and unfailingly helpful. Our Grand Deluxe room was spacious with every conceivable need catered for. The bathroom was generously sized and I particularly liked the TV at the end of the bath, and the two basins on opposite sides of the bathroom. The pool complex was a peaceful haven right by the riverside and staff provided a constant supply of iced water. Pure luxury without being intimidating.

One of the best hotels in Bangkok, the service is excellent, the rooms are very clean and quiet with a good quality equipment, the best view is directly on the riverside, breakfast and food has excellent quality and the staffs are very helpful. One of the highlights is the SPA, located in a separate house near the hotel, the expierence of the SPA-staff is very good. The pool is very nice, diveded in 3 floors, the pool-beds are in little wood-houses, very elegant, the pool-service is also very good. But only one thing should be improved - th whirl pool, is old, not well maintained, the water jets didn't work, but the overall statement about this hotel is excellent.

During short breaks at Bangkok my favourite hotel is definitely the Peninsula. It has a slightly more casual atmosphere than other 5 stars, which makes it a more relaxing experience than the Oriental or 4 Seasons. Dress code is not rigorously enforced, you can sit at the riverside restaurant in shorts, t-shirt and sandals. It is the tropics after all.
Restaurant and food is 1st rate for quality and value. Evening buffet for 1,500 ish is the highlight of the stays there. All the crab, lobster, kobe beef, anything you think of its there in the buffet. Very professional staff, no dramas at reception.
Acess to central Bangkok is easy after using the free shuttle ferry service to Saphan Taksin BTS station.

Right next to the river, the location is perfect to assimilate the many flavours and sights of Bangkok. We stayed here for just a couple of days, but should admit that at the end, it felt like we could do with a few more days extra. The service is prompt and fast. The quality and quantity of food was very good. The rooms are tastefully designed and the lobby catches your eye as soon as you enter. Overall a great stay.

Stayed in a Deluxe Suite, which was very large but perhaps not the most stylishly decorated room in town. Indeed, it was showing its age a little and really does need to be updated. It's not that it was bad - far from it - but its boxy TVs (where are the flat screens, guys?) and rather tired looking fittings etc don't exactly shout out "uber luxury". All in all, the Pen is still a wonderful hotel and I truly love staying here on the "other" side of the river.
