“one of the 2 best hotels in bangkok”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2011

I stayed here with my wife, 2 yr old daughter in a suite in april for 2 nights. The last time we were in B'kok, we stayed at the Oriental and enjoyed that experience and I had heard that the Peninsula is equally good or better. Its difficult to compare these 2 great properties but a couple of small differences i experienced -
- luxury is a bit better at peninsula - gadgets in room are fabulous
- we felt the service is a tad bit better at the oriental - the oriental doorman/valet were expecting us and welcomed us by our last name the minute we arrived at 6 am in the morning and our rooms were ready and we were promptly upgraded to a suite. At peninsula, we had to go to the front desk, say our names and it took about 7 -10 mins for the check in procedure.
- the food is fabulous at both the properties.
- the pool is better at peninsula - they have 2 long pools and a kiddie pool in between connecting the 2. Also a hot water whirlpool at the corner of the pool which is great.
both these properties are i feel one of the best in asia and they pamper you no end. The breakfast at peninsula is great - you can sit out next to the river or sit inside next to the lobby in an air conditioned area.
They have a bot service that takes you to the sky train stop on the opp. side of the river. The views are great, i felt better than the oriental.
Its a tough choice to make, but i would stay at the peninsula again when i go back.

We stayed here as the start of our honeymoon, as well as being upgraded to an amazing suite, we had a lovely handwritten card and champagne from the manager which was a lovely touch.
Room was heaven on earth luxury, looking right out onto the river with every gadget imaginable and the most amazing bed.

All the staff were outstanding and I've never seen service like it, better than the Waldorf Astroria in New York! Breakfast and dinner we had outside by the river and the buffet food was excellent, waitin staff were magnificent as was our whole experience of this hotel.
My wife needed a doctor and one was in our room within 5mins of calling the concierge, completely free of charge including some pain killlers she needed.

We cant wait to go back some day!

WE arrived early morning and were shown to our room . I pointed out that we had requested a non-smoking room. Housekeeping changed rooms for us immediately. We were then visited by the departmental manager and the maid to make sure we were happy.
I could not praise them highly enough for their courtesy and attitude. Wonderful, and a tribute to the hotel's management.
Rooms are spacious with lots of storage space and beautifully fitted out and maintained,
The bathrooms are immaculately presented and again , beautifully fitted out.
We attended a company function and the food and service were to a wonderful standard.
Breakfast on the terrace is a lovely way to start the day, and I could not praise the service enough.
A free shuttle water taxi service is a convenient way to access the Skytrain so everywhere in Bangkok is freely accessible.
The pool complex is riverside and in lush gardens, nice to chillout after shopping.
As a frequent traveller to Bangkok, a city where hotel service tends to be very good, I can say that the Peninsula excels . It has earned it's reputation and will undoubtedly maintain it if our experiences are anything to go by.

A regular at this hotel over the past four years and have never been let down once. Checked in Sunday lunchtime, offered an upsale upgrade to a suite on the 17th floor for only $100 USD, which was well worth the purchase. Service, room, dining, spa - the experience is unfailing excellence everytime. Beautiful commanding panoramic views of Bangkok and the river. A home away from home.

Room Tip: Book, avoiding peak times - check-in Sunday.

This is a reliable and solid choice for Bangkok. The hotel has perhaps the best location of any hotel in Bangkok - right on the river - towering over its neighbors and offering stunning views of the city. I stayed in a medium sized suite with 4 people and two extra beds on the 19th floor and it couldn't have been better. The room was excellently decorated with nearly every amenity one could wish for. The hotel was also gracious enough to offer late checkout since my flight did not depart until late at night. The room service food was also impressive and well prepared.

I can't think of enough positive adjectives to say about this amazing Hotel! I haven't even checked out and I felt compelled to say something. I don't think you need my review to convince you. But some of the things that I felt were really special...

- I used my credit card's hotel program and they upgraded me for free to a balcony room on a high floor with a KILLER view. Also refreshed a bowl of fruit every day, and brought fresh cookies and truffles on several occasions. Might have been a part of the Visa program, not sure.
- Unreal breakfast buffet, which was included in my rate. So many choices of asian and western breakfast choices - musli, eggs, dim sum, asian noodles with beef, mango smoothies, etc. We ate around 10 each morning and didn't feel hungry again until later at night
- GREAT service
- Beautiful pool with cabanas and awesome lychee fizz drinks
- Awesome location with a boat pier to whisk you back and forth across the river
- Close enough to the train to use that as an option to avoid traffic.
- Or the River!
- Super high tech rooms

I've heard the Mandarin is also awesome - its right across the way. But you can't go wrong with the peninsula and I wouldn't even bother checking for another hotel next time.
