“Incredible stay for first time in Bangkok.”
Reviewed 8 January 2013

Of course you expect premium service when you stay at a Peninsula, but this exceeded even my expectations...which were pretty high. You can't beat the location, located right on the river across from the Central Pier & BTS station. The Peninsula has boats running constantly taking you to many different drop off points, making it easy to use public transportation. Breakfast is included - eating on the terrace next to the river while the sun rises was a magical way to start the day each morning. It was the first time I was ever heartbroken to check out of a hotel, and hope to be able to return soon.

We love staying at the Peninsula in Banglok. With this perfect location on the canals to see all of the sights and activities of this bustling city. We love the wooden boat shuttle, it has direct access to the sky train and major sights and it is fun to use. With such easy access we never need to get stuck in traffic because we just ride either the train or go everywhere by boat for a nominal fee. This is a beautiful hotel, all rooms have a view the grounds and lobby are really luxurious.

Room Tip: Choose middle floors for the best views, too high and you miss viewing the activity of the canal.

Stayed here for our last night in Bangkok on our honeymoon. Super luxury hotel, with service you would expect from one of Bangkok's finest hotels. Had a deluxe river view room with balcony, which was fabulous. Received free bottle of champagne & chocolate strawberries as honeymooners which was great.
Breakfast was pretty good, although a lot of the breakfast buffet plates were pretty empty, which isn't great in mid service. Also had to ask for coffee refills.
Overall, a fantastic hotel, but having stayed across the river in the Oriental in same price bracket, would stay there in future.

Service
I just experienced the most unfriendly checkin I ever had in an international hotel: the girl at the reception didn't even look at me, not a single (not a single) smile and overall mood is very negative. Sincerely, I have never seen anything close to that in an international hotel. It was outrageous, especially considering it's a pretty friendly country and I was the only guest at the reception at that time.

Rooms look good but the bathroom is exemplarily dirty: faucets are rusty and there is dirt in the bath together with hairs - enjoy the pictures I took.

On my previous trip to BKK I stayed at Mandarin - and I should have done it this time too.

And yes, taxi drivers have no idea about it's location.

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel. But you are there - ask for high floor.

Could not fault this place, from start to finish it was fantastic. Every need catered for and the staff were very helpful and friendly with getting us booked in at the restaurants around bangkok, organising us cars and finding out information for us.

The hotel put on a shuttle boat that took us to the other side of the river, it was all decorated in tinsel and had a big teddy bear dressed as santa sat at the front of the boat positioned as the driver, the shuttle boats arrived within minutes and we often had our own private crossing with the driver and the 1 crew boy who always leant a helping hand to myself and my mum.

Our room overlooked the river and was just spectacular, at night time the whole city looks like a caption from a postcard.
We ate a lot at the River café in the Peninsular and the breakfast was just an endless array of fruits, beautifully prepared breads, buns, cakes, pastries and two cooking stations for continental food. They even had health foods such as bee pollen, flax seed and Natto – which we were surprised to see, this hotel had thought of everything and had intense attention to detail every way possible . There was also a huge slab of honeycomb tilted at an angle with a funnel underneath running down into a bowel – you cant get much fresher than straight from the honey home.

We sunbathed at the pool which a dream! 3 pools linked by waterfalls that overlooked the river and Lebua Tower. We lazed on a four poster sun lounger and the waiters came round every five minutes topping up our drinks and wheelinf around an ice cream cart that served miniature cones like the mini foods often served at weddings.
Talking of weddings there was a huge reception taking place in the hotel that evening by the River Café and we had a table for drinks nearby that felt like we were attending guests. It was a very sparkly affair with glitter, loads of flowers and beautiful decorations. This reception seemed similar to an English one- dress code, traditions and very long speeches; the only difference we noticed was that the groom threw the bouquet.
The food we had at the buffet rivaled that of The 5* Wynn hotel we went to in Las Vegas, It was just vast and all so delicately presented and with such exotic and interesting flavors including strange things like the 100 year old egg!?! We practically rolled home after indulging in the 5 tier chocolate fountain, Ganesh lollipops, tiramisu, Crème Brule, Strawberry cheesecake, sesame ice cream and fruit pastries.
The room we were staying in was just ridiculous, the bath could easily fit 3 people (not that we tried) and it had a TV built into the wall that we made use of. The bed felt like you were getting engulfed in a ginormous marshmallow and was the comfiest sleep we had had in a long time. Our room overlooked the river and the skyline at night was phenomenal.
In the lobby of the hotel was a statuesque 40 foot Christmas tree that had been imported from Canada and with the smell of pine in the air Gav and I felt like it might just be Christmas out here after all. We all loved the human size teddy bear family sitting under it and we all had some fun photos cozied up amongst them.

We would definitely go back!

Riverside peace and quiet, nothing is too much trouble for the amazing staff
Pretty much impeccable service, the hotel is beautiful and the spa is fantastic = very highly recommended.
taxi drivers aren't massively keen on taking you back there - the boat service helps out with this though
