It really does meet all your expectations and more .Loved crossing the river and being saluted by the hotels captain..arriving in the pen lounged and waiting for the boat..all magical..met Italians who travelled the world and they confirmed this was their only repeat venue..they thought it was the centre of the world and we agree.service second to none and sitting on the terrace overlooking the river at breakfast is unbeatable..all the pen style is here..looking forward to visiting Hong Kong for 9 nights in October 2013...just wish they would acknowledge repeat visitors like all the other uber luxurious oriental groups

Room Tip: All lovely

Being a fan of afternoon tea at the HK Pen we popped in for a re-charge over afternoon tea. A nice boat trip across to the hotel is a great way to kick off the visit. We had both the traditional and Thai afternoon tea set and found both had to many sweet and not enough savory elements. This aside the lounge and live music were a perfect antidote to a hectic day in the city. Last time we were at the BKK Pen we stayed for a few nights to attend a friends wedding - this time, as non-guests we were made to feel just as welcome and nobody seemed to mind our lively kid as he explored the hotel in between spoons of ice cream.

This hotel has high quality food, great friendly service, good value. The hotel is located in Choa Prayar River and has nice view from the hotel outdoor restaurant. What amazing of all is they planted the vegetables, spices at the back garden. Also they use all the things that are planted and use for they menu recipes. There is nothing that i didn't like about this hotel. Definitely will recommend for all the travelers also i will be visiting this hotel in the future.

Room Tip: I stayed in the deluxe room is pretty classic and cosy.

The room was very nice, had a suite. I would have preferred a balcony. I was more impressed with the mandarin oriental. Not going back due to distance, but I would prefer the ambiance of the mandarin.

Room Tip: Get a balcony facing river.

2nd part of our family trip to Thailand, enjoying the hospitality of the Peninsula for 5 nights.
My comments will be short, as our experience with the Peninsula was simply impeccable.
We found that the hotel location was extremely convenient, just a 5-mn boat ride (via the hotel shuttle boat) from the skytrain station. In a week, we used a taxi only once and managed to make all our sightseeing via the BTS or by boat.
Our suite was offering hypnotizing views of Bankgok with the Chao Praya river at our feet. The appartment was spacious, luxurious (the vast bathrrom was stunning and the toilet overlooking the Chao Prya River was simply incredible!) and stuffed in every room with electronic commands to open/close the curtains, adjust the air conditioning, call the hotel staff, set the tv channel and volume or turn on/off the lights... Furniture and carpets in our suite and throughout the hotel were in pristine condition and perfectly clean, thus giving a feeling of ultimate comfort and luxury.
Service throughout the hotel (reception desk/concierge/house-keeping/restaurants/swimming pool/riverboat shuttles) was always 1st-class.
The same is true for all the hotel offerings: the swimming pool (although it was a bit too hot for us, at 35°c !), the fitness center, the spa, the beauty salon and even the boutiques (we came back with a beautiful carpet from the Indian shop).
We enjoyed very much the Thai (outdoor seating just above the river) and Chinese restaurants of the hotel. The breakfast buffet was quite diversified but slightly less outstanding.
The Peninsula Bangkok was among our very best hotel experiences to date and our daughter quickly referred to it as "home" when we were strolling the streets of the city.
It will be difficult for us, if we return to Bangkok, to consider any other hotel but the Peninsula !

Room Tip: All rooms offer view of the River but if you can, book a large one or even a suite, as it was an exp...

We love Mandarin Oriental hotels; it's our place to stay in Washington DC. But in Bangkok, Peninsula wins out in our view. This may be splitting hairs, but the view across the river from the Peninsula side is more interesting, the rooms are newer, the lobby is elegant, the outdoor pools and the spa are lovely and relatively quiet, and the shuttle boat plies back and forth constantly so you can quickly get to the other side for shopping, etc. The rooms with balconies are special, about half way up the hotel is the best so you can still see the activity on the river but you're protected from the river noise. The breakfast buffet is worth the splurge, and the outside Thai restaurant right on the river is an exquisite spot for dinner. We also liked the papaya crab salad for lunch at the Mandarin.

My wife and I stayed at the Peninsula for a couple of nights as a treat after some busy work schedule around Asia and Africa. The hotel has the air of grandeur that comes from the name Peninsula. Very good service from the breakfast and pool teams but rather stiff concierge service (come on, lighten up!) and please, please, please: get these people at the concierge desk to take some English lessons to improve their language skills... Appalling! It was almost impossible to understand them!
Great breakfast buffet (although we missed some champagne, cava or prosecco....) and very nice pool area... Although the water was so warm... It felt like being in the bathtub.... Can you chill it?
Our main complain has to do with the smell of food that every so often we had in our room. It is as if there was problem with the a/c and it picked some of the air exhaust from the kitchens... Awful! Fortunately it was not like that throughout our stay but totally unacceptable from this kind of establishment. We complained and we were told they'd give us an upgrade next time.
