Booking and Check-in: For a family of 3, we booked a deluxe room (Room 1110) from May 31, 2013 to June 13, 2013 online. We took a cab from the airport to the hotel. Check-in was a breeze as everything was paid for on-line so it was a maximum of 5-10 minutes at the counter (including a chit-chat with the front desk).

Rooms: We got a deluxe room with a view of the Chao Phraya River, with Shangri-la Hotel and Mandarin Oriental on the other side of the river.

There is a separate foyer area to place luggage. There is a vanity mirror in this area, with a hair dryer stored in the cabinet. Aside from the usual stuff inside closets, there was a flashlight, a shoehorn and a shoebrush.

The main room was spacious and we had an extra bed brought in. It’s very clean and well-appointed – working desk with fax machine cleverly stowed away, sofa (good enough to sleep in), and flatscreen TV with USB plug and play. By the bedside are 2 control panels to control almost all features of the room – master light, reading light, nightlight, curtains, TV, etc.

The bathroom is also something else! Shower with seat (with a choice of the overhead shower or hand shower), bathtub with TV, and 2 separate sinks opposite each other.

Toiletries and complementary water and fruits were immediately replenished the moment you leave your room. Internet/wifi connection was fast.

Facilities and Amenities: The hotel lobby and other areas are elegant and classy, a bit dark though and in some places, showing their age, although gracefully at that.

The pool is just gorgeous and it’s open from 6:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. Towels are made available at the cabanas, and hotel staff provides guests with drinking water. It’s the perfect place to just chill-out and read a book or end a hectic day.

There’s also a beauty salon and the Spa. For our room package, we were given 3 complementary gift certificates to the Spa worth 500 baht each. Spa services are expensive though and the complementary gift certificates can only be used one at a time. So, we didn’t bother using them.

Food: The breakfast buffet spread of the River Café and Terraces is good. However, it can be repetitive if you’ve been having breakfast there for 3 straight days. Also, a wider selection of cheese would be a welcome addition. There are other restaurants in the hotel. We did not, however, have the time to try them out.

Staff: Great, friendly and efficient service. Concierge was very helpful for a first time visitor to Bangkok. The front desk staff is proficient in the English language.

Location: It depends on one’s priorities. BKK Peninsula is on the Western bank of the Chao Phraya River so if you want the quieter side of Bangkok, this is the place to be. However, if you want to be in the center of the City, you may want to look elsewhere.

To access the Skytrain and boat ferries, we had to take BKK Peninsula’s free ferry service to bring us to Tha Sathorn pier. From Tha Sathorn pier, it’s a 5-minute walk to Saphan Thaksin Skytrain Station. When going to the temples, we took the boat ferry at the pier. At any rate, the free shuttle/ferry service is an experience on its own ☺

Taxi from BKK Airport and vice-versa takes from 45 minutes to 1 hour plus. Make the necessary time allowance to and from the airport.

Check out: As everything was paid for online, check out was a breeze. Front desk just asked us if we consumed anything from the mini bar, then paid for it and that was it.

Summary: Well-deserving of the accolades and reviews! I would love to stay again at BKK Peninsula ☺

Room Tip: Most of the rooms have views of the Chao Phraya River but the higher the floor, the better the view.

Tucked away in a very exclusive cul de sac, the Peninsula Bangkook still preserves the old world charm. Although newly built, they have managed to create the grand old world feel. Sitting across the river from the Mandarin Oriental, it is in a beautiful setting. Service was excellent as expected but we LOVED the little extra touches, e.g. the ice-cream/sorbet trolley with the little bell that comes to your sunbed by the pool every hour for a little (really little) pick me up- a mini cone with their complimentary ice-cream or sorbet! The lovely thai restaurant is set by the river with all the traditional dishes. The suite we stayed in came with all the latest Peninsula in room technology. Bedding heavenly. The concierge was VERY helpful with very useful information. Although sometimes it may hard to get a taxi to cross the river back to the hotel, one can catch the complimentary Peninsula ferry from across the river, which is really the most charming way to cross the river.

Room Tip: The corner super deluxe suite is simply heavenly.

I was privilleged to stay in this hotel as there was a meeting going on in The Peninsula. Upon arrival, the classic beauty of this hotel captivated my heart.
The room was very big. And it was very clean. I especially love the view of the Chao Phraya river from the room. :) and the housekeeping were great! They were very attentive to the very bits. I placed a hand towel under my toiletries bag (as I always did) and it was changed to a clean placemat after the second room cleanup.
The breakfast selection was wide. Few types of coffee to choose from. But taste wise was just average. However, restaurant's ambiance were great!
Not to forget the receptionist, Yumiko was very friendly & reminded me on my essentials upon checking out. Great! I also love their flowers arrangements in meeting rooms, reception area, restaurants & concierge.
This is by far, my best stay ever! Thanks for the experience.

All the rooms have river views but only 2 rooms on each floor have a balcony. We where lucky and where upgraded to a balcony room, if you pay the extra for one, request a high floor for maximum views and less noise.
The rooms are lovely but in my opinion bordering on being dated, however they have everything you would expect from this standard of hotel. All the meals we had the hotel where exellent. The spa was great too, but obviously you are paying 5 star prices.
Our main reason for choosing this hotel was the pool, and it didn't disappoint. An oasis of calm in this mad city.
All the staff where very helpful, I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Request a high floor and a balcony

Booking a 1 bedroom suite with twin beds was a challenge but was able. 19th floor. Tried a Concierge request for adapter for connecting my ipod to the beautiful flat screen HDMI and the concierge said he's call Engineering. Engineering showed up w/icable but NO adapter for ipod and didn't understand English as I asked if we could purchase one from any apple store in Bangkok. So the hotel fell short here of allowing us to play anything on the flat screen tvs. Room lighting switches throughout suite kept blowing fuses so we continued to call engineering, but always resolved quickly. Light fabrics in the suite made for a pleasant setting in Thailand. The breakfast buffet service was slow for coffee, tea, water, despite the fact that the rest of the time we served ourselves for food. The Thai restaurant dinner did accommodate a request for a romantic table and could not have done better. The hotel bar, main lobby, elevators, and some public areas are dark and more suitable for an English pub than an exotic, Asian bright destination of Peninsula quality. The gym has no BOSU trainer which is a huge oversight.

This hotel is the place to stay in Bangkok. Being right on the river, there is an air corridor ,a blessing in this steamy city. Arrange the hotel limo to meet you at the airport,or arrive on the rooftop by helicopter- wonderful! The rooms are as you would expect as is the service. I would say the breakfast is the best I have had, anywhere .the hotel boats will take you over the river to connect with other means of transport. The Thai pavilions round the pool are a delight and give welcome shade. All have cushions ,power, piped music and a ceiling fan,if you want that. Dining out by the riverside is perfect. I would not go anywhere but The Peninsula

Room Tip: Floors obove 20 have an amazing night view, but may cost more!

Stayed there for 3 nights recently. View from room was mesmerizing and only the view can make it worth the stay. Excellent food. Good gym. Good meeting rooms.

I enjoyed spacious atmosphere, bar by the river.

Spa was a bit expensive. For value for money massage you need to cross the river. Hotel is a bit far from shopping centers and other amenities.
