“Wow - jaw-dropping hotel, a great experience”

This is one of those hotels that you remember. No corners have been cut, the facilities are amazing, there are more staff busily attending to guests' needs than is imaginable... The location is wonderful and serene - even in the middle of the busyness of Bangkok!

The public areas of this hotel are truly breathtaking. The elegant and tasteful decor through to the immaculate outdoor areas will be a highlight of anyone's stay here. The rooms are great - not huge - but with public areas like this and a great pool, you won't spend much time indoors.

The restaurants are fantastic, with great staff and even Thai classical performers. The breakfast buffet is gigantic - there is very little that you could want for!

The Peninsula is a superb, riverside hotel. Yes, it is on the wrong side of the river from town but when you consider the bustle of Bangkok, that expanse of water - easily negotiated on the regular hotel ferry - is just the distance you would want to keep between civilisation and you. The rooms are luxurious and each has wonderful views of the Chao Phrya river, the bathrooms are superb and the service is just fabulous. Two minus points about this property, though. First, the television is somewhat dated. Second, no tea/coffee maker in the rooms. But hey, if you can afford the Peninsula you shouldn't mind spending a couple of hundred baht on a cup of tea!

  • Disliked — The absence of a tea/coffee maker

after two weeks traveling in thailand, i spent my last two nights at the peninsula. the room was clean, luxurious, and spacious. i had the best sleep of my entire trip here. views from my 33rd-floor room were great. the bedside control box for everything (master light switch, room curtains, tv, music, concierge, do not disturb, etc.) was thoughtful and convenient. housekeeping kept my room and bath clean and the fruitbowl replinished.

i had a very late flight out of bkk, so it was nice to have a 6pm check out with only a half-day charge. i appreciated this option from the hotel.

with the hotel on the west side of the river, i felt simultaneously close to and yet removed from the city. perhaps the height, air conditioning, polish, and cleanliness of the hotel vis-a-vis the heat and grit of the city below contributed to this dichotomy. the free shuttle boats to central pier (next to saphan taksin skytrain), peninsula pier, oriental pier, and river city were convenient. the boat staff --like the rest of the hotel staff-- were always pleasant, helpful, and smiling.

the fitness center was small but clean; the main focus in that space is the spa. i did not use the spa services, but the facility (with its double-roomed individual showers, plunge pools, lockers, etc.) was beautiful. the outdoor pool was large and clean with chaises, cabanas, and poolside service.

Last summer we stayed at the Peninsula and it was truly wonderful. The service was exemplary, the lobby was beautiful, and the guest rooms with river views were well appointed and very comfortable.

The location is great as it is away from the noisey center of Bangkok and it was nice to be on the river, especially since the Peninsula has their own boat to take you across the river where you can catch the sky train. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a boat. Also you can take the canal tour right from the hotel or just across the river take boats down to the Grand Palace.

The Breakfast buffet was included with our rate and it was tremendous, and a great way to start the day as you could dine outside on the riverside terrace and enjoy the breakfast which was plentiful and delicious with a great variety of selections..

The Spa was truly beautiful and was a very relaxing experience and although it is much more expensive then other spas in Thailand it was truly worth it for two hour massage with dinner was the same price as I'd pay in New York for a one hour massage without the incredible surroundings.

The Peninsula is not only a great hotel, but it was very reasonably priced for a 5 star hotel, and I would definitely stay at the Peninsula on my next visit or recommend to friends who want a beautiful and convenient hotel in Bangkok.

I have just recently returned from the Peninsula Bangkok for a 2 night stay. Got a good rate through Gold Medal including complimentary breakfast and an upgrade from deluxe to grand deluxe room. The Peninsula organised a mercedes executive limo pick-up from Bangkok airport via e-mail for a standard rate of 2,700 baht (£51) and this was a great start to the holiday after a 12 hour flight. The driver offered us cold lemongrass scented towels and bottled water in complete luxury and took under 50 mins to get to the peninsula.

On arrival our bags were taken care of by the bellhop and a lady greeted us and showed us straight to our room, 1602, on the 16th floor. I usually like to see what kind of room is available on check-in such as a higher floor but in looking at the stunning view from 1602 we were not dissapointed and I think if you were any higher you would not be able to see so much in detail i.e. on the river.

The lady sat at the desk in our room and proceeded to check us in, asking if we would like to pre-book spa treatments and giving us all the information about the property. Let me just say, the photos of thier rooms on the website do not do them justice. They are simply stunning and felt home from home. The bed and pillows were soooo comfortable and the room felt so airy with plenty of light flooding in.

The bathroom must be seen to be belived. A sunken bath with tv, large marble shower with various settings and a seat, frosted glass door to toilet and his & her sinks where the maids make a very nice arrangement of your things esch day. Freebies include a nail set, sewing kit, gorgeous soap and coconut scented shampoo & conditioner.

After our baggage arrived and we settled in, we headed down to Thiptara for dinner. We had read good things about this dining venue byt he riverside and we were not dissapointed. We went for the Thiptara set menu at 1,500 baht and I noticed a few other guests did the same. You really do get your moneys worth! So many courses of rich, sometimes spicy thai food that is to die for. Really do visit there, its great for special occasions. What I couldnt get over was how quiet it was on the other side of the river, really relaxing yet sooo closed to the centre.
Breakfast is served by the river and cannot be faulted, eggs benedict to order and some lovely fruit and cereals.

The next evening we took the boat across the river. The guy at the dock asked us where we wanted to go, i think the choices were to the shopping mall or between the mandarin oriental and shangri-la hotels. We chose the latter and found it a bit daunting arriving into a random street with no directions to the sky train and being bombarded by tuk tuk men. It is however a 5 minute walk to Lebua at State Tower for drinks up in the sky.

One day we spent by the pool in one of the sala's. It felt a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The pool was suprisingly big and empty most of the time. The spa staff would walk around in the morinings and offer a complimentary face spritz and the barman would bring round ice water every hour completely included. We ordered lunch and the staff would arrange a table between the beds for it to go on. Simply amazing.

On looking at the other hotels, the mandarin oriental did not look appealing from the outside but its got the best boat which takes you up river to the temples as well as the mall. And inside it is so romantic and authentic thai. Restaurants very expensive as well.

To summarise, y'know when you visit a hotel and you notice small things they have missed out that you would have liked, well this place had all those things. Simple things, like a movie rental list and an accompanied snack menu with popcorn. Go here, you wont regret it!

We stayed for 2 wonderful nights in this superb hotel. The location was ideal, the hotel truly fantastic and the staff could not do enough to help us.
The restaurant on the river side was so relaxing and the food amazing. We could have stayed for a week!
This hotel really is one of the best we have stayed in and very luxurious. It is also very charming and traditional.

The Peninsula certainly lives up to it's reputation.

From Arrival to Departure we were met with nothing but friendly, professional service. The level of professionalism from every single staff member is to be applauded. And we used quite a few services in our short stay - River Cafe and Terrace, Thiptara Restaurant , The Bar, Peninsula Pool Bar, Concierge, Business Centre, Room Service and the Complimentary Boat that takes you across the river to Bangkok!

I would definitely recommended a room with a River View - this was a highlight.

This was a fabulous Hotel and I would never stay anywhere else in Bangkok. I've been spoilt......
