I've just been to the Peninsula for the second time and have sworn to go back. You simply cannot top this hotel. Nothing but perfection, be it in the impeccable service of the ultra-friendly hotel staff, the luxurious rooms with stunning views, the mouthwatering food (don't miss the Riverside Terrace buffet dinner!), the lush tropical gardens, the haven of tranquility found in the Spa... In short, the Peninsula is simply unbeatable.

Spent three nights here in January 2010 and loved it. the location is superb. Our room had stunning views of the river. I cannot understand the suggestion that it is on the wrong side of the river. It is so easy to get anywhere you want from here. We used a taxi only once. If we wanted to go West, we used one of the river ferries; if we wanted to cathch the nightlife or shopping we caught the hotel boat to the Skytrain station. Everything was accessible with a minimum of effort.
There is a gorgeous pool by the river; an excellent spa; a really high class Chinese restaurant; a very nice bar on the river terrace and a very impressive pianist/ lounge singer in their main bar. I was not so keen on the lobby (they could make it a bit more lively) or the buffet on the river terrace (waiter service would be better for such a specatular setting). And their Thai restaurant was quite disappointing on teh one night we tried it. But, overall, this was a hotel that did not disappoint. I do not know how they manage to provide such a personal service in a hotel of this size.
I hope to go back soon.

There is no doubt that this is a fabulous hotel and we had a wonderful room, with great views. The service was great (although sometimes almost a little too contrived!), the concierge brilliant and the general ambiance perfect.

However, having stayed at the Oriental in the past and having just travelled up from the Six senses in Koh Samui, we thought that the breakfasts were really disappointing. They were uninspiring and much the same as at any major hotel, sometimes with long queues and sometimes with empty dishes. They really should do something about this!!

After much debate between which of Bangkok's top hotels to visit, we settled on my partner's tried and true favorite, The Peninsula. Somewhat foggy from an 18 hour flight, we stepped through the door and the staff took it from there. Our Grand Deluxe room was spacious, beautifully appointed, and the views were spectacular. The service is truly second to none, even as compared to other best-in-class accommodations.

Prior to the trip, my primary concern was the location -- I had thought that being on the "other" side of the river would be a negative as it would be in New York. After experiencing the thrill that is Bangkok for the first time, I was pleased to end each day with a romantic boat ride across the river at sunset. Furthermore, the cab ride across the river is only minutes long and Bangkok cabs cost pennies. In short, in my view, the location is not a detriment but rather an asset, a pleasant surprise.

Pros: Setting, location, views, river, service, rooms, spa
Cons: Some design elements feel slightly dated though are perfectly kept

In short, for me, this is a town to skip the design hotels, go for the views, service, and location, and get incredible value at The Peninsula.
