Elegant, quiet, well located.
Very professional and efficient staff.
The best Asian service you can think of.
My suite was comfortable and nicely decorated.
I have been coming here for a fed years and will keep coming.

Room Tip: Deluxe Suites: expensive but worth the money

The Sukhothai is spread over beautiful grounds and the service is always excellent with very attentive staff. The hotel and its grounds are almost resprt like and provides a very peaceful respite from the city outside.

The Sukhothai has excellent customer service, from the minute you find the hotel staff at the airport and are whisked into the hotel limo (which incidentally, has wifi!). We stayed in an executive suite.
The room was spacious and clean, very large bathroom. Very quiet environment. Comfortable king sized bed, with choice of pillows from the menu. Room service - good standard of Thai food.
The Sukhothai exudes old world charm with modern luxuries - more traditional style of decor..
5 minute walk to Lumphini station - convenient.

I don't know which hotel I like better, the Oriental or the Sukhothai, but I'm leaning towards the Sukothai for a longer stay. The pool area is just so relaxing, the pool itself huge and lovely. Restaurants Celadon and La Scala are both fabulous. Service is very good. Rooms spacious and calm. The bathrooms are enormous. Shower and bath both faboulous! Very nice robes.

Only one slight reservation - you miss that view of the river scene that you get at the big hotels down by the river, plus that sense of Bangkok's colonial history.

A well-priced five star hotel with a fabulous pool and good restaurants.

Note: Good for couples, singles, civilized families.

Room Tip: I loved our room overlooking the pool and tennis court.

I keep finding the Sukothai one of the best hotels in the world. I was concerned about their recent renovation, together with the addition of a new residential tower adjacent to the main site. However, on a recent visit, I found the hotel I knew back in all its splendor. The rooms have been slightly refurbished but without changing the elegant minimalist-meet-Thai decor of the original concept (I was upgraded to a suite facing the inner courtyard). The staff are always a pleasure to intact with. And the breakfast buffet - one of the most sumptuous of all of Asia's grand dames of hotellerie - is enough to make you forget your jet lag and early morning arrival at Bangkok airport… A definitive must go back to it!

Room Tip: I tried suites facing the pool or facing the inner courtyard - both of them were great. Suites facin...

If this is a leading hotel of the world I am the pop.

On our trip we have been in 4 different hotels in bali. 3 of them were far better and 1 even to this hotel.
It’s simply too big. They let you know you are just a number.
Stress start’s already in the breakfast room, when to many personal actually is around but the guest never knows who is in charge of his table.
The buffet itself is huge, fresh and clean. Nothing to complain. But how a cappuccino should look see the picture. Not just coffee and milk-foam.
Depends a bit, but around 09:30, somebody knocks on the Door and ask’s for laundry. At appr. 4 PM somebody comes to check the fridge. In better hotels the rooms are done completely, when you are at breakfast.

The room was +- as expected. Clean and well kept.

Internet: In a leading hotel, I expect an internet without limitation and charges!
First is a download limit, second is an equipment limit, nothing warns you when you reach such a limit. They just cut you off. I don’t call this free wifi, when its offered but does not work properly.
Asking for a reset was answered 6 hours later. Sorry we are in the middle of a big city, not in a rice field in the mountain.

Let’s still mention the better points.
Concierge service is excellent; Restaurants are top, with even new ideas for a pizza as example.

But for above reasons I would not choose this hotel again. Max 75/100 Points

My apologies for another long review, but the Sukhothai is one of my favorite hotels, and I want to put my comments into context. The hotel opened in the mid-90s, and I had my first stay soon after. Back then, the established luxury piles on the river attracted most of the hospitality accolades, and the Sukhothai seemed a world apart. Instead of "colonial" tropical decor or contemporary Thai kitsch, the Sukhothai's subtle references to classical Thai architectural themes made it a forerunner of the design hotel boom. Although well-located near the heart of the Silom/Sathorn business and entertainment district, the hotel's distinctive courtyard design and ample green space make it feel like an urban oasis. The hotel is not part of a large international chain, and does not cater to conventions and tour groups. In its first years, the Sukhothai was embraced by people in the creative fields, gays, independent businesspeople, and other "early adapters".

Like many places that inspire a cult following, the Sukhothai has probably been eliciting mutterings of "it's not what it used to be" since the second week it was open. Long gone are the days when you were automatically upgraded to a suite every fifth stay, or the Sunday jazz brunch was affordable enough to attract the Silom nightlife crowd recovering from the previous night's festivities. As word got out about the Sukhothai's distinctive style, hushed charm, and attentive service, the hotel started to attract corporate types, families, and even some of the tourists who used to prefer the riverfront icons. Instead of an under-the-radar haunt, the Sukhothai is now firmly established as one of Bangkok's most appealing places to stay.

The hotel still earns high marks on all the basics: The design offers an excellent sense of place, and is immediately calming. Most rooms overlook a lush inner courtyard of tropical plantings and fish ponds. The rooms themselves are a bit on the small side, but beautifully designed in dark tropical woods and Thai fabrics. The public areas are dignified and sumptuous, with the grand dining room at the Colonnade hosting a truly excellent breakfast buffet. The in-house Thai and Italian restaurants are also good, and the bar has an appealing outdoor seating area. In addition, there's a gym, a large outdoor pool, and an in-house spa.

While familiar faces on the staff have slowly changed over the years, the hotel offers smooth, reliable service. Because the hotel has set such a high standard in the past, however, minor shortcomings can be especially noticeable. On my last stay, during the busy holiday period, the staff sometimes seemed overwhelmed and out of sorts. Room service trays languished in the hall for hours, and I was surprised to find cobwebs in the bathroom. The lobby entrance can also be a bit chaotic, as in contrast to years past there doesn't seem to be anyone in charge of sorting out taxi and car-service requests. That said, the concierge team has always been top-notch, and the staff in the lobby and the Colonnade are fantastic. Even if you're not staying at the hotel, if you have a sweet tooth, make a reservation for the chocolate buffet on weekend afternoons. The pastry chef, who's been at the hotel for years, really cares about what he's doing, and it shows.

The best hotels combine all the expected comforts and services with an indelible reflection of their location. For me, the Sukhothai embodies Bangkok. Even if it doesn't always quite reach its potential, the Sukhothai still manages to inspire an almost fanatical devotion among loyal guests who want the ideal base for exploring one of the world's great cities.
