“good location & spa”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2012

a good hotel with an excellent location for bangkok especially if you want to get some shopping done as sukhumvit is the place to shop. the hotel is also directly connected to "times square" an interesting shopping centre and "robinsons" by a walkway popularly called "skywalk" in bangkok. it is also connected to terminal 21 another interesting shopping mall which is designed on the theme of different cities (eg london, paris, rome, carribean, etc) for different levels. Its partner hotel the westin is just across the street. The best part of the hotel is the spa which is excellent. try the aromatic massage followed by a facial. a good health and fitness centre too. there is a good thai restaurant, "basil" which serves thai cuisine, which is not as spicy as on the streets or other thai restaurants (more towards an international palate-which is expected in a 5 star hotel). the service could be a bit better though. next to it is an italian restaurant, which we did not visit so no comments. breakfasts and buffet lunch in the lobby level are run of the mill which one can expect at any five star hotel in bangkok, but it definitely has much more variety and choice than hotels in western countries. the bar, "barsu" is a nice place to get a drink. the band performing on friday nights was lively and created a good party atmosphere. its a toned down "bangkok scene" - well managed i would say and decent enough. overall a good hotel with a great spa experience. i would definitely consider staying here again.

Having stayed at many of the Starwood properties in this area, this rates as one of the best experiences. If you can afford the extra, or benefit from a good deal, I would definitely recommend it over the Westin that faces it across the road. Rooms are very good, and the customer experience is what you would expect from the 'Luxury' brand. Surprisingly good was the bar at street level, which is a nice place to start or finish the evening. At the same time, perhaps the key to this hotel is the luxury coupled with easy access to Asoke skytrain station, the 'fun' terminal 21 shopping mall, as well as Soi 11, which is a great road for eating, drinking and partaking in a bit of the party scene with the Bangkok Hi-Sos.

Dear RHMCG,

Thank you for your support of Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, A Luxury Collection Hotel.

I would certainly concur that for visitors on business or those that want to be close to major shopping areas or entertainment, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is ideally located. The hotel lobby is directly connected to the sky train station via the sky bridge, making access to main points of interest very easy.

I look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

We recently had to stay with the Sheraton in June- firstly for 5 nights at the beginning of our Thailand trip, and later 3 nights at the end. I have stayed at several hotels throughout Bangkok but choose the Sheraton, as this was the first time we were bringing our two young children with us and I knew from previous stays that the large rooms and the pool were amongst the best in the city.

The first stay in our trip was a dream. We experienced the best of service from the moment our car pulled up; after a horrendously long international flight the sight of the bellhops personally lifting our kids out of the van, handing them little bear lollipops, and playing with them while we (speedily) checked in was a godsend. Throughout the five days we were always greeted by name, the waitresses at breakfast would have little plates and cups waiting for the kids in the morning and would dote on them as we got our own food, and the pool attendants remembered our preferred deck chairs and food/ drink preferences. Rarely have I seen that level of attentiveness at a hotel of this size.

However when we returned a week later for our remaining 3 nights stay, it was as if we were in an altogether different hotel. Check-in was a horrendous nightmare. After waiting 10 min in line, we had a further 10 min of slow data entry by the receptionist. We were never acknowledged as a previous guest of only a week prior which, after spending a pretty solid $ amount and being Sheraton points members, was poor form. I pointed this out to them so thinking surely they would have my passport numbers, credit card, and address available to them to bypass this time. Apparently it made no difference and the wait was painful (our children were tired, hungry and very bored… but this time no helpful staff in sight). We were escorted to our rooms, to find that one was already occupied. So back down to reception we went. Again, we were brought to another set of rooms- labeled as a non-smoking floor but reeking of smoke to the point of nausea. We complained… and the only solution they had for us was to come up and spray the room with a horrible air freshener as my kids were sitting in the room! Again, we headed back to reception. Only after kicking up a huge fuss were we finally brought to new unoccupied smoke free rooms, finally an hour after arrival. A few ‘sorry’s were said, but throughout the ordeal surely someone should have noticed the kids were in tears and offered at least lunch while the problems were smoothed out.

The remainder of the stay was consistent with the entry. Couldn’t get any service from the pool attendants (only a week after our first visit, and seemed the staff were working different shifts as we recognized none of our favorites from before). No special kids attention at breakfast. Long waits for room service. Very little personal attention. Overall, worse than what I would expect from a sub-average chain hotel.

Overall: lovely amenities, great rooms for families (the adjoining rooms at the end of each hall are brilliant), fantastic location. My warning is that the service and overall ‘feel’ of the hotel is a gamble- when they are at their best it truly is a special hotel, at the worst you will very much wish you stayed at any of the dozens of great Bangkok hotels. I don’t think we’ll risk it next time.

Dear Reviewer,

I was very concerned to learn of the unacceptable level of service which you and your family experienced on your second stay with us. Certainly your first stay experience reflects our normal level of service which we try to deliver in a personalized and attentive manner.

Naturally I called for a full investigation on all the points you raised and a series of actions and retraining has been put in place to ensure that such inconsistencies do not reoccur.

May I add that I appreciate your feedback, as it has alerted certain failures upon which we can build a more consistent service delivery.

With Kind Regards,

Richard Chapman

The Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is one hotel you should try while in Bangkok. You feel wanted and important the moment you step into the lobby. The counter staff were friendly, smiling, courteous and ever willing to help. I stayed in a standard room on the 12th floor for 3 nights and I began to like the hotel more and more with each passing night. It is conveniently located within the core business district and the Asok BTS station is just a stone throw away. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. Even though it is located in the busy CBD you can be assured of a quiet, good night sleep. The bed was spacious and can easily sleep 3 average sized adults. There is a large flat screen TV and a DVD player. There are plenty of cable channels but certain channels are snowy. Internet is not free and not cheap however.Buffet breakfast was one of the best I ever had with a wide variety of oriental and western food to choose. Do not miss the Thai mango. At night the vicinity came alive with many stalls selling all kinds of things from T-shirts, fake viagra to sex toys in the open. Unlike in many other cities you do not feel threatened and would not worry about safety even if you are alone. Travelling was easy with the BTS line and you can get to just about anywhere from the station.

Room Tip: Try some of the local cuisines available at some affordable restaurants nearby.

I've been to this hotel many times and it is my hotel of choice when travelling to Bangkok on Business, the staff are very helpful and the rooms are clean. It is in a very good location and also ideal for catching the skytrain as the stop is right outside. Bangkok travel is hideous at the best of times so a great way to get around.

Stayed here on first time visit to Thailand. Was a bit concerned as I don't normally stay at Sheraton Properties. This one was not too bad but it was clear it had not been updated in some time. The rooms were starting to look tired as well as the decor in the elevators and lobby areas. Overall, not bad, but on the decline soon if not updated.
