“Extremely great value for a Boutique hotel at $85”
Reviewed 28 February 2008

Stayed at the dream 2 hotel in a standard room on the 4th floor. The location was great and in walking distance to the skytrain station. The rooms themselves were above average with a very modern decor and comfortable bed. The bathroom had a cool design, but not practical as the water from the shower leaked all over the floor.

The included breakfast was good which included fresh tropical fruit and juices, coffee/tea, assorted breads and omelets with steamed spinach.

The only thing that was really wrong about this place was the loud disco on Friday and Saturday nights. Having just arrived from a 14 hour flight and wanting to just get some sleep, the disco continued to pump the music till around 1am. From the 4th floor, it was literally shaking the bed from the vibration. After phoning downstairs to reception about the noise, I was simply informed "too bad, it goes on until 1am". If your going to stay at this hotel, definitely request an higher floor if you want to get to sleep early.

If you can get a rate < $100 USD, this hotel is definitely worth it!

Personally I thought the design was great, much prefer this to your standard hotel decor. The music at the pool was of the right mood and the service throughout (bar, room service, lobby) was second to none.
The spa was of a high quality - maybe a little overpriced.

Fantastic - plan to return here next time in Bangkok. Modern decor throughout hotel. Bedroom comfortably furnished with really good en suite facilities [including large walk in shower] though door to ensuite a little see-through. Breakfast good; choose from several set menus. Free internet acess in reception or in the business centre in Dream 2 opposite. Also lovely roof top swimming pool in Dream 2. Close to Asok and Nana skyrail.

The Dream Hotel in Bangkok is a relatively new addition to the city's hotel scene. It is a boutique hotel, a few steps off Shukimvit road. The location is close to Soy Cowbow, if that's what you want, but not perfect, as you have to walk a bit to get to the city center. The design of the lobby is rather tacky and the breakfast is so so. Rooms are great, maybe even five star standard.

There are two reasons why I do not think that the hotel is a super top hotel: (1) location and building are not impressive, and (2) design is a little tacky, particularly in the lobby. The value is good though, so I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in the Shukumvit area.

The Dream Hotel had nice, clean rooms, although I'm not sure we liked the "blue light"-- it kinda makes people look a little green (not very romantic.)-- the solution, though, was just to use the regular lighting. Very modern looking, including little extras like bathrobes and cookies with the turn-down service. The breakfast was American, unless you asked for Thai food, which they did provide upon request. The best thing about this place was the location... just a block away from the Aruk skytrain and subway station. We also found lots of places in the area for massage. Most places we wanted to see were not near the hotel, but the fact that it was so close to public transportation was well worth it. Also, the hotel desk was good about getting us metered taxis which made for much less expensive transportation vs unmetered, when we had to travel by car.

Don't have too much more to add to the reviews below except that I am an extremely picky and almost always difficult person and I really rate this place.

This is no Shangri-La or Peninsula which can be a good thing and from the outside, it looks like nothing. It's the small things that count though and this place had lots of small touches that really made our stay.

English and general service from staff outside of 5 star retail and hospitality venues is generally poor in Thailand so the staff here made quite a refreshing difference to our trip. The staff here weren't quite at Banyan Tree level but were always helpful and went the extra mile for us. Whenever I mentioned somewhere I wanted to go, they would provide related information that would assist me without me even prompting. Phone operator was also helpful and front desk and bellboys were very reliable.

Best of all was when we were running late for the airport and a tailor I had ordered from had not delivered my order. I just mentioned the name of the place and they pulled out the number straight away and demanded he return to his closed shop and deliver the garment to me. You may think of this as nothing in the Western world but trust me, it makes a different when you go somewhere where you are only seen as a dollar sign and offered assistance when you can give something back.

No hassles with housekeeping service and loved the choclates from turn-down service. As someone else mentioned, the free bottled water was very convenient and never seemed to run out. The free bathroom amenities were also good quality. New York style rooftop pool setup was small but sweet and breakfasted was limited but good quality compared to some of the crap we had been eating in BKK. Not much better at the Banyan Tree in all honesty!

Location a plus - 10 minute walk to Asok sky-train station which is within 10 minutes from all the major malls (25 baht for one way ticket). 10 minute walk to Cabbages and Condoms. 10-15 minute cab ride to Patpong night market (60 baht).

This is the best hotel you will get for a hundred bucks a night and that's all there is to it!

This was my first trip to Bangkok and this was the only hotel I’ve ever stayed in the city. I do agree with some of the other reviewers in that it is not a 5 star property but more of a trying-to-be-cool (and succeeding, mostly) boutique hotel.

We found the location excellent. It’s about a 5-10 minute walk to the closest skytrain stop (the hotel is on Sukhumvit Soi 15 between the Asok and Nana stops and we felt it was slightly closer to the Asok station). Taxis we encountered never had difficulty finding the place. Soi 15, by the way, is a much more pleasant Soi to walk than some of others nearby – less tailors, touts, etc. making for a more pleasant and quieter walk.

We requested Dream2 because we wanted to be in the building that housed the rooftop pool. After staying in a variety of up market hotels throughout Southeast Asia we were completely satisfied with our room. It had two queen size beds, a sitting area with chair and table, and a desk as well as the other standard features such as the large LCD TV, mini-bar, blue lighting, etc. We found the size of the room totally adequate for two Americans.

One nice touch- the 6 bottles of water that appeared each day as well as the fruit. Bathroom amenities were spottily replenished, though, we never got more lotion, but had more than enough unopened shampoo.

Housekeeping was a little strange, as well. On our first day we were allowed to check in very early (around 11:45 am which was very nice and never expected at a hotel) and we received turn down service that evening. The next day, though, we returned at 4pm after a day of touristing to find our room not cleaned. We called housekeeping and they got the point across that there was some sort of housekeeping problem that day and they’ll clean it ASAP. The only problem was that we wanted to nap before going out so it remained not cleaned until we went out for the night. This was a little irritating, but these things happen maybe they were understaffed that day. Only once during our 4 night stay did we have normal maid service - with a regular day cleaning and turndown service.

The pool area was nice. A bit small, but never crowded. We ate lunch at the pool one day and the food was surprisingly good and cheap. The breakfast buffet was just OK.

We always noticed there to be many concierge/doorman available. Several times, as we exited the elevator in the lobby, we were accosted by at least 2 of them asking where we were going and if we needed a taxi/map/umbrella/advice, etc. They were always there and were always helpful (or tried to be, at least).

On our last day we were to fly out at 1:05am that night (technically the next morning) and the front desk let us check out at 2pm, hold our bags, and then let us use what they called the “travel lounge” on the third floor of Dream 1 before we got our 10pm cab to the airport (for the taxi we played a flat rate of 400 TBH, probably too much but he got us there in 25 minutes). The “travel lounge” is just a conference room with a full bathroom and shower. It was very thoughtful of the staff to let us use this and came in very handy.

I got a rate of $89 on hotels.com ($103 with tax). I would definitely stay at this hotel again for this rate and even higher. And as a young guy, I was glad I was not at a stogy old luxury hotel with coach loads of package tourists.

Each hotel had computers to use free of charge. There was one in the lobby of Dream 1 and 2 hidden right off the lobby in Dream2.

Oh, and by the way, you can go swimming and party at the pool at any time in the night. The staff doesn't care - it almost seems like they encourage it keeping with the hip atmosphere.
