“Scent of trpics”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2013

The minute you walk into this hotel you are taken by the special Shangri La scent of the tropics .The beautiful lobby area ,the Sunday afternoon ballroom dancing in the lobby ,fantastic grounds ,restaurants ,rooms ,shops but above all the staff and that special smell of the hotel's signature parfume . This is a great place from which to explore Bangkok.

Room Tip: Horizon Club Suite ,river view

Back to our special hotel, Superb comfort, convenience for views and travel, value for money and all one could want. Ferries and sky train just minutes to walk to. Anyone not happy to stay here must be VERY difficult to please as it equals or exceeds any where in the world we have visited.

We stayed in the Shangri-la in Bangkok 25th to 28th June 2013.

Great location right on the river, has its own peir to jump on the long boats and water taxis. 5 minutes walk from the state tower where the famous sky bar is.

Its fair to say the hotel surpassed our expectations, its kept to a very high standard, breafast selection was huge and very tasty (something for everyone). Rooms where really nice (if a little corporate) - pool area on a hot day is a great place to relax. Food & drink prices are OK (not cheap by thai standards but OK compared to being back home)

Would happily stay there again, staff where polite and attentive.

We upgraded to a horizon club room and upon arrival where upgraded again into a suite. This give you access to the horizon lounge at night for free cocktails, beer, wine etc and also some nice food as a pre dinner nibble.

As a tip, I would suggest you ask for a room overlooking the pool / river as these are the best views. Ours overlooked (or underlooked!) the leboua state tower sky bar (Hangover 2 fame...)

Would absolutely stay again, great hotel, great staff, thanks for helping to make our first 3 mights in Bankok fantastic.

Room Tip: upgrade to a horizon club room and ask for a view over the pool / river

My family and I recently spent 4 nights in the property after a two week journey around Asia. Having stayed here at least 15 times over the years it was indeed reassuring that the Shangri-La Bangkok has not lost any of its allure. This hotel remains an oasis outside of the hustle and bustle of a chaotic city and one I would recommend wholeheartedly to any would be guest.

It was the first time that we took a Horizon Club suite in this hotel and I can say that this certainly enhanced our experience. With a 5 and a 6 year old the Horizon Club was great and the staff on Level 24 were eager to assist in any way they could. What as also great was that after the kids had their drinks and various treats they were happy to go back to the room with their apple devices and leave us to enjoy some "refreshments" in the club. Special mention must go to Khun Tum who was the master of the Long Island Iced Tea plus Khun Natt and Khun Pookie who always made sure that the kids had Guava juice and any number of treats. Having the club on the same level as the room was a great help and well worth the additional expense.

All staff were great and we look forward to returning on our next trip - congratulations Shangri-La on a winning formula.

Room Tip: Without kids I like the balcony rooms overlooking the river, rooms in the south east corner have bal...

The ShangriLa is a beautiful and appropriately price hotel, with a beautiful location by the river. The Thai restaurant serves delicious food. The breakfast (or for that matter lunch and dinner) buffets are marvelous and cater several types of cuisine. Service is polite and very efficient.
If you can afford an upgrade, get a room with a view. It is beautiful.
The rooms are in need of a little refresh, but this would not stop me from staying there again.

After traveling around Thailand for the past 3 weeks, we decided to treat ourselves before flying out to Penang.

We have stayed at the Shangri-la before, although it was over 18 months ago, but the welcome we received was amazing and heartwarming. The staf here are wonderful and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them. We have a deluxe room on the 19th floor which is clean, fresh and inviting. The beds are lager and comfortable with a choice of pillows to suit your preference.

everything is just so and it all makes the price tag worth it, having said that I paid more for one hotel that was a dirty hole than I paid for this. The pool area is wonderful, an oasis of calm in a mad city. the pool has 2 lifeguards at all times and an army of attendants rushing around to ensure your stay is as comfortable as can be. ice water is served free of charge on arrival with refills on request as and when. They also come around at various times with chilled flannels and even fruit. you are give the impression that nothing at the Shangri-la is too much trouble.

There are not enough words in my vocabulary to explain how wonderful the food here is, from the buffet at night to the sumptuous breakfast, the food is of the highest quality and the presentation is the most elaborate work of art that makes you want to eat everything you see. I can honestly rate this as one of the worlds best hotels.

Room Tip: Get a room that looks out over the river and then try to get as high a floor as you can.

Smooth and cool all the way through, from check in to check out, spacious and great location.Clean and safe, and very romantic in areas.
Probably the best breakfast you could ask for catering to everyones palate.Hard to find any better this side of the river.
Upgraded upon check in so not much one can ask for more.
