“A great hotel, in a great location”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

We stayed in a balcony room which was fantastic for watching river life go by. Really well appointed room, nicely decorated, decent wifi. A great panoramic bathroom with good facilities. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely, really good selection. Spending a week in Bangkok, the pool area was probably the biggest draw.

Lovely hotel, with fantastic breakfast, wonderful staff and lovely spa. The rooms are not huge, but they are very comfortable with great views of the river which is nice at night. The location by the river is prettier and more relaxing than other areas of Bangkok. There's a SkyTrain station right outside the hotel, making it about 30 mins from the hotel lobby to the main shopping areas of Bangkok (if that's what you want!) We felt that the hotel really worked hard to offer value for money, allowing us to check in very early and check out late.

A hotel with an exceptional quality. We stayed in Krungthep wing for 3 nights and booked for 4 rooms including of one suite. The room was spacious, well maintained, clean and bright. All staffs are very welcoming, friendly yet efficient. Breakfast is also outstanding, especially in their main restaurant, with a lot of choices, although, regret to admit, the food quality in their restaurant needs to be improved, as it doesn't match Shangri-la standard.
I also love the swimming pool and the river banks area, where we can feed the fish everywhere, as they provide bags with bread for fish. The children really love this activity!
Don't try to take the free shuttle boat to Asiatique, as it's a must while you're there. When we went back to the hotel in the evening, as surprise, the captain allowed the children to be 'in charge' for a while in front of the wheel.

My impression of this hotel can be summed up in one word WOW. Friendly, yet totally professional, staff. They can’t help you enough. The rooms are superb. Perfectly sited on the river. Yes, expensive but it’s worth every penny. Makes a trip to Bangkok a total pleasure.

A hotel of exceptional quality. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it without hesitation to anyone else visiting Bangkok. The main plus points are:

-Staff. We stayed in the Krungthep wing for 4 nights and I can honestly say that every single staff member we encountered was welcoming, efficient and polite. The manager who supervised the breakfast and reception service was exceptional in her attention to detail and friendly, professional manner. Consequently, everything runs very smoothly and makes the hotel a calm and relaxing place to spend time.

-Location. For us, the hotel was perfectly located on the river and one can soak up the atmosphere of the river from the comfort of a pool lounger or the room balcony. It is a short walk (3 mins) to the river boat station and the BTS. It is possible to walk to the night market area of Patpong or to take a tuktuk for only a few hundred baht.

-Room. Spotlessly clean, well appointed, nicely decorated and spacious. A lovely view of the river from the balcony.

-Afternoon tea/manager's reception. The afternoon tea (which is complimentary) was of a high standard and included sandwiches, cakes, freshly baked scones, tea/coffee and even warm meat pies. Even more impressive was the nightly manager's reception (again, complimentary), running from 5.30-7.30pm - unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks accompanied by a wide and selection of warm and cold snacks (fishcakes, spring rolls, cheese, crackers etc). This was a real treat each evening.

Overall, an excellent stay.

Myself and two of my friends arrived outside the Shangri-La, Bangkok at 3am after a late flight in from Sydney and even at this ungodly hour the staff that greeted us were most welcoming, ushering us in after taking our bags - an absolute gift for weary travellers! The room was bright and spacious, overlooking the river and the beds were the most comfortable we've ever come across. The breakfast buffet in the Next2 Cafe was absolutely fabulous - a great start to our day. We availed of a late check out at 2pm because we had a late flight out of Bangkok and the hotel even kindly provided us with a hotel room to freshen up with at 10pm. I would highly recommend the Shangri-La to anyone!

I had an exceptional time in the Shangri La. Fabulous views onto the river, the suite delivered what it promised. The staff were outstanding and helpful. The horizon suite facilities were fantastic, breakfast delicious with the exception that it could do with providing freshly squeezed orange juice in the morning.
In the evening after a busy morning and afternoon sightseeing it was wonderful to come back and have some finger food and wine, all inclusive of the suites facilities.

The BTS line is only a few minutes across a wing of the hotel and across a road which gives access to Bangkok city and some its main sights.

For a city hotel the pool is really very relaxing and the variety of restaurants gives a person a great sense of choice and convenience. Definitely worth a visit and up grading to the horizon suite makes a huge difference.
