“A relaxing end to a trip to Thailand”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

We stayed at this hotel for a few nights at the end of a trip around Northern Thailand. Our room was in the standard non-Krungthep wing but was beautiful. We paid the extra for a river view room with a balcony and having such a great view and a balcony to sit on was well worth the extra money.

The hotel is near a public MTR station, which can be accessed by walking through to the Krungthep wing.

We did not eat dinner in the hotel but the breakfast was an excellent buffet style arrangement. The main pool is quite small but was certainly not chaotic.

The hotel smells beautiful in all communal areas and the staff were hospitable and professional. We particularly appreciated the ability to be able to check in early after arriving in Bangkok by sleeper train and the use of a room to get changed in before we headed to the airport at the end of our stay.

Room Tip: We enjoyed having a balcony and river view.

We have stayed at Shangri_la, BKK several times over the years and returned in March where we stayed in a balcony room at the Krungthep Wing. Check-in was smooth and we had a nice room on a higher floor as we had requested by email. However the great part is the seperate pool with free soft drinks (and they actually ask what you want every half hour), the afternoon tea with delicious sandwiches and cakes. Also - pre-dinner drinks with appetizers are very nice. Will definately return - but only if we can stay at the Krungthep Wing.

We find the Shangri La Hotel extremely comfortable. The staff are so attentive and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. Good value is the Horizon Club where you can eat breakfast in peace overlooking the superb view from the 24th floor. During the day you can partake of coffee or tea and small snacks. The best thing are the fantastic canapes in the evening accompanied by either campari and orange or wine etc. and watch the darkness suddenly come upon the river. Illuminated boats ply backwards and forwards and you can look across to the Peninsula Hotel opposite and various restaurants and hotels lining the river. The rooms are so comfortable and well-lit and the beds fantastic with a downy cloud of a duvet to cover you!! Beautiful pillows and an excellent shower. There is hardly anything to quibble about!!
The Italian restaurant, Angelini, is superb and you can dine on authentic Italian food with a chef from Le Marche in Italy. Pizzas too. The dessert was amazing.
Next2 beside the river is also a good restaurant with a la carte or buffet. There is a Chinese restaurant we haven't tried too. However, the Thai restaurant 'Salathip' was unfortunately dreadful despite being a beautiful romantic restaurant alongside the river with delicate Thai dancers moving amongst us. Very disappointing. There is a good swimming pool with attentive staff to bring you cool towels and cold water plus a poolside menu. A shuttle bus takes you to the shopping malls.

Room Tip: Any on the club floor ..we were in 2231

My wife and I stayed for two nights in Horizon Club room. We were very pleased to be located on 25th floor (top) in a lovely room overlooking the river. The pre dinner drinks were good, but would have liked a choice of wine rather than red or white. The food that was given with this was excellent, truly 5*. We are staying at the Shangri La in Cairns in February and have today upgraded to the Horizon Club there, on the strength of this.

Super hotel, great staff, especially with my son.

Only problem we had was at breakfast. I have never seen such disgusting behaviour and poor manners by adults. Spitting food out, taking photos of the food in their mouths was just disgusting. I know this isn't the hotels fault but this experience might put me off staying there again.

We have just spent 6 days in the Krungthep Wing of the Shangri La hotel in Bangkok. It was excellent . From the most gracious and warm welcome from Amp to the excellent service of Henry in the lobby lounge where breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails were served. Henry was so professional and attentive and did everything he could to make the guests feel happy even when it was very crowded.
The hotel is in a great location and just sitting at the bar watching all the activity on the Chao Praya river is so therapeutic.

Room Tip: The Krungthep wing is good value

I have just returned from BKK and could not wait to write this review. The hotel is amazing. From the second they pick you up at the airport to when they drop you off again. We stayed for 4 nights at the Krungthep Wing. Our room was lovely with a balcony on the highest floor. The chandelier in the room made it really romantic. As we arrived late we checked in in our room which was really good. The spa Chi is lovely and the massages really good as well as the atmosphere. Breakfast has a decent selection of food and the cocktails in the evenings were well worth it. We also visited the tailor in the hotel whom sews suits and jackets and were very pleased with our purchases.

The restaurant Salathip serves some of the best Thai food in Bangkok and is very romantic.

On our last day, my husband spilled coffee on his shirt and the manager of the restaurant sent it in for a complimentary wash. It came back in 20 minutes. Amazing!

Overall they stay was lovely and the service first class. Thank you for making our stay in Bangkok memorable and magical.

Room Tip: Stay in the Krungthep Wing as it is less busy then the main wing of the hotel. Ask for a room on a h...
