First time stay at Shangri-la Bangkok, although we have stayed at a number of their properties in HKG, Shanghai, Tokyo, etc. Service, location, amenities, etc. were all up to the usual SL standard with one exception. Due to the high occupancy for the holidays, breakfast was being served in additional locations, than Next2 their main buffet dining. To avoid the long line-up, we first dined at Salathip, as well as Angelini's for breakfast. Quite terrible service for really any restaurant, and simply not acceptable for a hotel using the Shangri-la name.
The training level, ie service, and possibly their English capability, etc. of additional staff needed to function two breakfast locations were sorely lacking. Chaos seemed to be the theme at these places. I was seriously disappointed.
The balance of the mornings, we used the main dining area, and while very busy, we found service (as well as selection) there to be at a much higher level.
Support in other areas, including reception (Beam), pool (Danny), room service, concierge were all excellent and definitely Shangri-la class.More
