“Top-notch Hotel”
Reviewed 13 February 2014 via mobile

We have stayed at many Shangri- las before and the one in Bangkok does not disappoint. It is a beautiful hotel, with lots of facilities and top-notch services. We spent one week in beautiful bustling Bangkok. Loved the city and loved the hotel! We hope to go back one day! We travelled with our kid and occupied a one bedroom suite with beautiful views over the Chao Phraya river. We arrived at Chinese New Year and the hotel had prepared a small show on this occasion. We went to Chinatown which is not far from the hotel and saw the parties that were going on for New Year. Very nice! Also, the hotel is next to a skytrain station ( Saphan Taksin Station) and we went to Chatuchak Market and to Siam Square by skytrain. ( at Siam Square there were demonstrations but they were actually peaceful). One evening our child came down with high fever, he had a cold and an eye infection and the front desk were very prompt and sympathetic and sent us to a hospital ( a very modern one, by the way, where the pediatrician was a very nice lady who spoke good English). The hotel gave us a member of the staff to accompany us at the hospital and she was very helpful and nice. Thank you, Rassarin! The hotel phoned her a few times she was with us at the hospital, wanting to know how things were going on. The next day a manager called us in our room, asking if our kid was ok.
Very prompt in room dining service. Very good restaurant service ( at Next2 Cafe), which also served superb food (both a la carte and buffet). Had dinner at Shang Palace (Cantonese cuisine), great food and service. Too bad Angelini Restaurant was closed for the moment, our kid could not have his pizza. But the staff apologised for the inconvenience and sent us some chocolate. They have a big nice gym at Shangri- la Bangkok, with friendly staff. Spa is big and has very good therapists.

Everything at this hotel was magnificent. Absolutely no complaints. Location is great -right near Skytrain, can go virtually anywhere for nominal cost. Fitness center better than any hotel in the world. Can't wait to go again next year!

Room Tip: Stay in Krungthep Wing.

What matters most in Bangkok, by the proverbial country mile, is having a hotel on the river. Whether or not you can get around by water will make all the difference because you want to avoid being in a car at all costs. There are a clutch of 5 star hotels that offer this priceless amenity as well as all the trappings of a luxury cruise, right down to the ice sculpture, and small armies of bowing staff attending to your every need. I'd argue that the Shrangri-La is the best of these. First, the house style is a pleasing luxe minimalism with a minimum of glitter aside from some massive, Vegas-y chandeliers in the entrance foyer. Second, the hotel's residential wing abuts the skyline elevated train, which is the only other way to get around town. The skyline is clean and much more user-friendly than the metro in my home town (DC). If seeing anything of the city on your own appeals to you this is a huge plus. True, you can reach the same skyline on one of the over-crowded river water buses, but for us being able to walk straight to the skyline train in the security and calm of the hotel corridor was a tremendous advantage. The restaurant has over-the-top buffets but you can also order dinner a la carte and dine in perfect ease at one of their very large and well spaced tables with nothing between you and the river. The pool is large and attractive. Worth a mention is the excellent spa, although I suspect all the good hotels are good at this. Still, the traditional Thai massage dropped my voice by an octave. This also struck us as a good hotel for kids, partly because of the pool, partly because of the informal atmosphere, and partly because of the big basket of bread by the dock for feeding the fish, which is endlessly entertaining.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river.

Good and clean rooms.
Very beautiful river view (if room at side of the river).
Ideal traffic connections. Sky Train and express boat launch just 5 minutes walk.
The staff (all) very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and courteous. Good Swimingpool and small garden....

We had a riverside room on tenth floor with balcony and excellent view of the Chao Phraya River with it's busy trafic day and night. The hotel offer everything you need to be absolutely comfortable, and the staff and management wellcomes you warmly and look after you during your stay. The treatment and service in the VIP lounge is excellent.
It is a good place to be in Bangkok! Not cheap, but wortrh every Baht.
And just outside your doorstep is the BTS Skytrain and the Central Pier on the river, so transport is not a problem at all.

Room Tip: Choose the Krungthep Wing for a room with balcony towards the river. 10th floor is a good choice.

We stayed for 4 nights as part of our vacation. We have stayed in other shangri la locations such as Sydney and Singapore but believe me the Shangri La in Bangkok eclipses them all. The hotel itself is directly onto the river with beautiful views from our river view room. The traffic in Bangkok is horrendous so the availability of the hotels shuttle boat was a godsend in getting around. The hotel is also adjacent to the Skytrain terminal and the main harbour departure point. The rooms were immaculate and there was a lovely swimming pool area and pool bar facing the river. The service was immaculate and the staff so polite and eager to please. We did not use the restuarants in the hotel but did have room service once and it was excellent. If we return to Bangkok we will certainly stay at the Shangri La. It's the best.

Room Tip: I don't think there are bad rooms but we enjoyed a river view.

Great staying at the Shanrgi-La.
We were here in February 2014 and everything was perfect and well organized. At the check-in, we were advised to opt for a room with a view on the river and we definitely enjoied this choice!
The breakfast at the side of the river was fantastic with so much choice!
Superb location and service absolutely great. Staff always helpful and friendly. Alex, who professionaly arranged our transportations, deserved a special mention.
