We were absolutely thrilled with the care and hospitality we received at the Shangrila. Honestly cannot praise the hotel and its staff enough. Natalie, our Butler deserves special mention. She went out of her way to see to our every need - from cookies in the afternoon to fruit juices at night (she found out I like watermelon juice and saw to it that we had two glasses of freshly-squeezed watermelon juice when we returned to our room at night!). The staff in the Riverside Lounge were equally attentive and caring - one of them, called M, even had fresh chocolates made for my daughter because the rest of the chocolates in the buffet were alcohol-infused. Last but not the least, on the day we left, we were provided with complimentary in-room breakfast at 4:15am! The breakfast was most delightfully presented and set us up well for a return journey to London.

Endless hospitality from the moment we landed at BKK airport to the day we returned when 3 people were waiting in the foyer to see us off with a souvenir, the day's newspaper and of course a cab back to the airport.
It's hard to list everything that was on offer from this hotel but the overall experience left our memories of Kempinski and Taj far behind.

Stayed in Bangkok Shangri-La in February 2014. Bangkok has quite a few wonderful hotels. However, Shangri-La is a special place - this is the first, the original Shangri-La. After it was upgraded, I believe, a few years ago, it now combines the contemporary with the warm feeling of home. I got a river view room, with a wonderful view of the bridge and busy river. The outstanding level of service is expected in any Bangkok 5-star hotel, and Shangri-La definitely does not disappoint.
I liked the location of the hotel. It's just outside of some famous (or infamous, depends on how you look at it) areas, but is very conveniently located right next to a skytrain station. Also, it is outside of the areas affected by the "yellow shirt" protests, so, while I read a lot about those protests, I have not seen any.
I tried only two of the restaurants - Next2 (breakfast), and Angelini (Italian), where I spent a few dinners. Breakfast are free for the Golden Circle members (which is free to enroll), and offer a huge selection of any kind of food, excellent quality.
As to Angelini, it's simply one of the best Italian restaurants in Bangkok. Chef Omar, who is Italian, is the most adorable chef I've ever met, extremely friendly and helpful, enjoys discussing his food with the guests. And there is definitely a lot to discuss! While his food is definitely and authentically Italian (his risotto is to die for!), he does not limit himself to traditional Italian cuisine. A foodie would enjoy very much some of his more adventurous creations.
Overall, I love this classic Shangri-La - it feels like home away from home.

We stayed for four days in Bangkok and the Shangri-La was a very good choice to stay.
We booked a room with a view on the river and a balcony, which was definitely worth the higher price.
The hotel is very nice, the rooms are very comfortable and clean. The restaurant offeres a wide range of food in high quality.
The location of the hotel is very ggod for exploring the city, since the boat pier and the sky train station is right beside the hotel.

Room Tip: You should book a room with a view on the river

This was my second stay at this wonderful hotel, were we stayed 5 days at the Krungthep Wing. Everything is just perfect from you enter these exquisite and beautiful accomodations, and untill you unfortunately have to leave again. You feel so welcome and are taken extremely good care of by the kind, observant and competent staff. Lobby and lounge, where you take a luxury breakfast, afternoon-tea and cocktails, are oasis of elegance, tranquility and hospitality. I must emphasize the head waiter, Henry, who always treats you in the most exquisite way. Thank you very much, Sir, for your fine service. From the lounge you allso have a terrific vue to the garden and the river. Rooms are spacious, elegant and with a balcony overlooking the river. Bathrooms elegant aswell. Everything is clean and kept. Unforgetable - and I will be back soon.

Room Tip: Go for a room at the river-side. It is marvelous.

On arrival you are given a genuine and warm welcome by all the staff, this is the Hallmark of all Shangrila hotels that we have visited. The service is wonderful and consistent.the facilities at the Shangrila Bangkok are very good but even better in the Krungtept wing,it's well worth the additional cost to benefit from the included extras and balcony
Why stay anywhere else at the same price point?

For luxury, beautiful accommodations and outstanding service, Shangri-La hotels are a great choice. The rooms were clean and turned down each night. The views were beautiful (on the water side). Shangri-La hotels are a wonderful place to stay.

Great hotel on the river. Breakfast was very good (buffet). Service and concierge were excellent. The area around the hotel has a bit of a nice local feel where there are a few good local restaurants that are affordable, some tailors, some massage parlors as well as several street vendors.
