Shangri-La Hotel,Bangkok

Certificate of Excellence

We stayed in the Krungthep Wing of the Shangri-La.
The service was fantastic. The room was exceptional and the facilities were very good.
I really cannot fault this hotel at all.
Breakfast was very good (apart from the poached eggs which must have been cooked in a microwave as the yolks were hard and the whites were runny!)
Afternoon tea which was included became an institution for us as did the 2 hours of drinks,, cocktails and canapes which were delicious.
The staff were immaculate, friendly and very helpful.
Being caught up in the airport scenario we had to extend out stay by an extra night which was given to us at a reduced price. The location was perfect for the sky train and the view over the river was perfect. Every amenity was provided in the room - they really thought of everything.
Apart from the stress of finding a way home this hotel was faultless.

The previous reviewers have said it all!!! We had a wonderful room, high up in the Krunthep wing, great service and everybody very helpful..it happened to be my birthday and a wonderful chocolate cake was left in my room..I made my reservations thru Nursha at the reservations department and she could not have been more helpful...I loved going to the swimming pool before breakfast, very quiet but within a minute of getting out of the pool the attendant had a pot of hot coffee by my chair! Breakfast is fabulous with both Thai and European, I thought it so sad all the Europeans were eating mounds of bacon, egg and sausage and toast and ignoring the fabulous and much more healthy Thai breakfasts! I could not recommend this hotel more highly.

We stayed in the Krungthep Wing of the Shangri-La and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and facilities. Everyone did all they could to make our short stay in Bangkok a wonderful experience. In particular we did indulge in the Chi Spa and spent an exceptional 2 1/2 hours of pure luxury at the spa. I know that other hotels such as the Oriental and Peninsula get great reviews but I would not risk being disappointed by staying anywhere other than the Shangri-La Krungthep.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel and would definitely recommend it. We had a horizon room with a fantastic view of the river. We were in the standard wing but found our room to be of a very high standard with an excellent bathroom and huge bed. The staff were all very attentive and very helpful.
We would highly recommend the horizon club. It did not cost much more (considering breakfast was included) and it was a really nice way to start the evening - the canapes were excellent and you could have cocktails, wine, beer etc for 2 hours overlooking bangkok as the sun set and the night sky came to light. The location is excellent and is very convenient for both the boats and the sky train.

As soon as you arrive at the Shangri la you're greeted by hotel staff opening doors for you and bowing and they greet you.
Every member of staff we encountered were always smiling, polite and eager to help you any way they could. Reception thought my girlfriend and i were on our honeymoon and although we told them we weren't we still got a card of congratulations and chocolates during our stay!

We stayed in the Shangri la wing of the hotel and when we entered our room for the first time, room 824, we were slightly dissapointed especially as we'd just spent the previous 4 nights in the new Westin hotel in Dubai. The room was outdated and had a slight musty smell to it. The decoration and bathroom looked like they haven't been updated since the mid nineties but it was clean. The hotel is currently getting renovated, which didn't affect us at all during our stay but, i think this should have happened a good few years ago as the rooms are now a decade behind the times compared to other hotels. The view from the room was a good one though, right over the river.

Breakfasts were good with a good selection of fruits, cereals and cooked food.

A good perk of the hotel's is the skytrain station nearby which is a great value and efficient way of getting around Bangkok and getting to the Siam shopping district and getting to Sala Daeng which is the skytrain stop for Patpong.

The river boat jetty is also nearby too and for just under £3 you can get an all day ticket with unlimited stop offs along the river which is great to get to places like The Grand Palace and The Temple of the reclining Buddha.

The hotel and staff provided us with an excellent stay during our time in Bangkok but the only little niggle i would have would be the standard of the rooms. I'm sure once all the renovations are completed and the rooms updated then the Shangri la will be even better to stay in.

This is a great hotel. Located right next to the sky train and river ferry for easy access to all parts of the city.

Krugthep wing is amazing, lots of extras inclusive in the price.
Butler always at hand to help with unpacking, organising trips, nothing is to much trouble. Rooms very spacious with a very comfortable oversize bed. All rooms have river view, Krugthep wing rooms alll have balcony.

Fresh fruit and flowers in room daily along with wonderful chocolates and sweets to nibble on if you get hungry.

Evening drinks and canapes wonderfull usuallly leaving no room for supper, especially if you have also had afternoon tea a few hours before. Not sure why this is only 13 on the trip advisor list it is as good as the hotels listed at the top.

We've tried some of the best hotels in Bangkok but this is definitely our favourite. We recommend booking into the Horizon suites for very individual service and attention. Highlights include breakfast on the 24th floor watching the river traffic and cocktails and fantastic canapes in the evening as the lights come on in Bangkok. Drinks and snacks available all day in the Horizon lounge. You get to choose your individul room fragrance and pillows every night!
