We stayed in the Shangri-La Bangkok for 8 days in early October. We were warmly welcomed by the amazing Alisa - this set the tone for the rest of our stay. We had arrived early from a long flight from London and although our rooms weren't ready she got us settled in the lounge, got a few things to amuse the kids (6 & 3) and made sure my teenager had internet access! She then couldn't have been more helpful in printing off all sort of documents and no request was too much trouble. We were very sad to say goodbye to her!

We had two interconnecting rooms on the river side of the hotel. The space was comfortable for the 5 of us, with plenty of storage and great bathrooms and toiletries. We were fairly jet lagged and slept late most days. The blackout curtains worked a little too well! And we never heard any noise in the hallway, which can be a problem in some hotels. The river is a working river, so can be very noisy at times, but this did not really bother us.

The pool is lovely and a great way to cool off after a long day sightseeing. I like that people must shower off before jumping in the pool. The staff at the pool were really helpful and the supervision of the pool is excellent.

The hotel is well-located for the train (BTS) which we took a couple of times as it's only a 10 min walk away. But the taxis are so plentiful and pretty good value when there are 5 of you (about the same price as the train to get to Siam Paragon shopping centre).

We had a wonderful stay and would stay at this hotel again in heartbeat when we are next in Bangkok. I've also stayed at this hotel many years ago for business and a conference and it also works well.

Kob Kuhn Kha!

Stayed at the Shangri-La Bangkok and enjoyed the city and the Hotel very much. People in Bangkok are very nice, very polite and very helpful.

The breakfast team at Shangri-La Oui, Tim and Ammy were wonderful. Excellent service provided by them made the stay even more wonderful.

I had booked an Executive River View Suite as we overnighted in Bangkok on our way to Jordan. The room was supposed to have access to the Horizon Club lounge for drinks/breakfast which turned out to be closed during our trip. The room was disappointing - it looked nothing like it was advertised on the Shangri-la site as it obviously was not recently renovated. The positive was that the room was comfortably large enough for 3 of us with our 16 year old in the living area on a rollaway. The view of the river was beautiful as we were on a high floor. After arriving in the room, we waited a bit for the bags and then decided to go down to Salathip (separate review - we really enjoyed this) in time for our reservation, thinking that the bags would be delivered during our absence. When we got back to the room after a few hours, we had to call and then wait for our bags to arrive. Not sure exactly what happened but waiting for the bags to arrive was the last thing we felt like doing after our long flight from Sydney and then dinner. The next day, the concierge arranged a long tail boat to pick us up at the pier and do a two hour ride through the canal backwaters. If you haven't done this, DO! It is very interesting to see how people live by the water. We also took the free boat shuttle to the night market down the river - it has much better quality items than I was expecting from my travels to Bangkok years ago. Would I stay again - yes, perhaps in the Krungthep wing which looks like it is actually new/renovated.

Room Tip: Executive river view suite or deluxe suite in Krungthep wing- Inquire as to whether the room is renovated.

I stayed here for 3 nights, and the hotel is just about perfect!

The pool area is lovely with plenty of sun loungers to go around and nice surroundings. I stayed in a Deluxe King in the main building and it was very nice with all I needed in terms of amenities. All staff I met were helpful and friendly.

The one negative of my stay is actually outside of the hotel and no fault of theirs at all, but more of a recommendation so you hopefully don't make the same mistake I did... They provide a free ferry to Asiatique (I assume it's funded by Asiatique to get people to go there!!) - honestly, don't bother going!! It is a new, tacky, most un-Thai place. Go to America if this is the sort of place you want. Instead either have a wander straight outside the hotel (the surrounding streets are far more interesting and have plenty of restaurants - Queen of Curry in the road behind is great!), or get a Tuk Tuk into the main areas for bars/restaurants.

Anyway, the hotel itself is fantastic!
