This is one of the best hotels ive ever stayed in We stayed in the Krunthup Wing and could fault anything .The rooms have balconys with great views of the river and a very large amazingly comfy bed .We had free snacks and cocktails in the lounge in the evening and the hotel does an amazing pad thai. The pool area is fantastic and not what u would normally expect in a city , the hotel has an lovely smell where ever you go which just adds it its relaxing feel.

My wife and I stayed at the Shrangri-la for 5 days after a 3 week world wind tour of Vietnam and Cambodia with our 3 grandchildren ages 11,11, and 14.What a place to relax and tour all of the sites in Bangkok by the river taxi and the long tail boats. The hotel was kid friendly two swimming pools. The staff was exceptional in all regards i.e. service, being helpful, attentive and would go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.Smiles and orchids every where. You knew you were in the land of smiles!
The buffet breakfast was just what the kids loved pick and chose. The resturant Angelini was exceptional but not for children (they ordered room service ) while we dined with our friends.Great value when you book over the internet.

I love this location, on the Chao Phraya River next to the skytrain station. It's convenient to the waterbus as well as the train, and the views of the river provide 24 hour entertainment.

So the question is which of the three fine hotels here to choose: Oriental, Peninsula or Shangri-La. I've stayed in (and reviewed) all three, and my choice is the Shangri-La. It doesn't have the perfect rooms and service of the Peninsula, or the history and snooty cachet of the Oriental. But it's my favorite.

The place to stay is the Krungthep wing, with balconies and views of the river. If you get a room at the north end, it'll have a 180 degree view and be further away from the highway.

Both our bedroom and bath were large. There was free wired internet in the room, wifi and 2 terminals in the lobby. We got cookies & fruit in our room, and a free Wall Street Journal and International Herald Tribune (ask the bell desk if you don't get one in the room). This might have been because we are in the Shangri-La frequent guest program, but with no special status.

You can choose between a fabulous breakfast buffet in the usually crowded Next2 restaurant, or a quiet one with still quite a good selection in the Krungthep Lobby.

The reception personnel provided friendly, smiling service with good English.

Our second visit to this hotel and I suppose one compares how or if it has changed. We stayed at Krunthep wing in a suite with 2 balconies overlooking the river, loved the 2 bathrooms, room service was excellent. The pool staff were excellent and really looked after us. Our only disappointment was that during Happy hour the lounge had no pianist and singer as before and was rather glum, guests were shown to the elegant lounge area or to a breakfast table and we couldn't help feel segregated and wonder on what basis guests were given a seat in the proper lounge area, drinks were also limited, the first time we came 2 years ago this facility was much better in our opinion.
The Next 2 buffet was outstanding, the Manager really looked after us and assigned a delightful Lady to care for us at breakfast, excellent really fresh food and choices and a better option for breakfast than the Krunthep wing if you like plenty of choice.
Reception staff were lovely and that is the joy of staying here their motto is "if you're happy we're happy"
It is also a great place to travel from by skytrain (just around the corner) if you like the
MBK area it goes direct to it, and Robinson's department store is also nearby.
Will certainly return

We stayed for a night at Shangri-La on our way back home from Phuket last July. It's a well maintained, elegant hotel. The breakfast was rich in variety, the rooms were stylish and very comfortable and the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We loved the view of the river from our room. The bar on the ground floor is a good choice for happy hour. I'll stay at Shangri-La again if I go to Bangkok one more time.

This was my third time that I have stayed at this hotel. but the first time in the Krungthep Wing, I was not disappoined. I could not fault the staff nor the service that my wife and I received, which was second to none. The Butler service was superb, everything we wished for was taken care of. My wife was even presented with a box of homemade chocolates on the day of our departure. As far as I am concerned this is the only hotel I will stay in whenever I am in Bangkok.
