“Look elsewhere if you have a choice!”
Reviewed 11 January 2014

We stayed here as our G adventures tour started from this hotel. I don't mind budget hotels but this was just poor. The room and hotel was generally clean, but the aircon very noisy, insects in the bathroom and dreadful wifi. A member of our group had a couple of items go missing too, so make sure you make use of the free safety deposit boxes at the front desk. Breakfast and food in general there was poor so look elsewhere to eat.

Positives are it is cheap, and well located right next to a Metro station and a short walk from the nearest river peer which you can get the ferry up to the Grand Palace.

Location is superb just next to the underground train. The hotel is not very big but mainly the chinese tours stay here so its kinda like crowded and noisy. You can get better option for this price and location.

This is a very average hotel. The exterior, grounds, pool and lobby are very nice looking, even a little bit upscale. Our room though, was fairly small and the bed (and pillows) felt like wooden planks - very firm. Bathroom was older but adequate; in need of an update. The air conditioning was a bit cold for my liking and there was no adjustment in the room. Staff were not particularly interested or helpful (no map of city but rather suggested we stop by the 7/11).

People in our group did complain about some additional charges. We used our room telephone to make a local call to a friend's mobile phone which cost us about $7US. There is a bottle of water included with your room - the bottle is specially marked and left in the fridge. Problem was there are other water bottles in the fridge, available for purchase, and people were getting these mixed up. A pricy mistake.

We stayed here like many others as the meeting point for our G-Adventure tour.

We braced ourselves for the worst, as per the reviews we had read.

We were pleasantly surprised. It wasn't the greatest hotel we have stayed in but by far not the worst. It was clean, quiet and comfortable.

The location was ok, at least the metro was nearby. We walked out of the hotel walked a bit and hopped on a tuk tuk and headed for the water taxis and had a great time.

Finishing our trip in this hotel was a bit of a let down. The room was adequate, but a bit dirty. The wi-fi seemed to be dial-up speed only. Everywhere seemed to be a bit battered and bruised, probably due to the fact that G Adventures seem to run all of their tours in and out of here. Everyone is either excited or miserable depending on the point of their tour and staff seem to be on edge and suspicious of their guests all the time. Breakfast was OK, but the dining room is not big enough at peak times.
Wouldn't recommend for more than one night and I'm sure most hotels in Bangkok are better, we just didn't have the choice.

We stayed here for 1 night with the G-Adventures tour group before leaving for Cambodia the next day. Bedroom was clean and beautifully presented, beds were comfortable, aircon was cool and quiet. Bathroom was a little old, shower luke warm (and a couple of tiny cockroaches scuttling around). Free bottled water but no tea and coffee facilities. I thought the price (2,300 baht on their website at the time) was a little steep for what you get, but I guess it's about right for a 3 star hotel. It was too pricey for us to stay additional nights here before the tour (we're travelling for a while and having to watch our budget) so instead we stayed at the 'Train Inn' the night before for only 900 baht - It's not a 'modern hotel' (it's has more of a homely guest house feel instead - see my review on Train Inn on their page if you're arriving early and on a budget) but it was clean and had hot showers, free tea and coffee and reliable WiFi. If you're looking for something around here just so that you're super close to the train station and near to the tour start point I'd go with that instead. But for hotel-lovers, with a little more in the pocket, this Bangkok Centre Hotel isn't too bad.

As with the other reviews, I stayed here at the start of a G Adventures tour. I read the TA reviews prior and expected the worst.

We emailed before our arrival to ask for an early check-in, when we arrived we couldn't actually speak to the check-in desk as another member of staff came up to us and took our bags. We asked him about early check in but was told we'd have to wait till the check in time (about 3pm I think). We waited a few minutes in the lobby before going back to the check in desk, where they said our room was ready and we could check in now, so that was a bit odd!

The location is OK, the train station underground walkway is directly outside the hotel however there aren't any tourist attractions within walking distance. Me and my boyfriend walked to the nearest boat pier so we could catch a boat to the Grand Palace, the walk took about 40mins!

The hotel itself is average and the rooms are clean and comfortable - all we needed! Breakfast also wasn't too bad and had a decent selection of food, no cockroaches spotted fortunately.

A note about the taxi rank, anytime you walk past they will try to speak to you and find out where you're going. We usually just told them we were going to the station, based on previous reviews they over charge hugely on the taxi fare. Taxis are easy to find outside the hotel and are very cheap so I would avoid the hotel's taxi rank.
