Leave the 21st century behind by entering the door of The Atlanta. Although there is a 21st century amenity, free wifi in the lobby, you will have to tolerate the smell of cat urine to sit there. Don’t bother to complain, however, because their policy is that for the price you’re paying in a decent location in Bangkok, you have forfeited that right. The rooms are totally lacking in charm, and if you want one with hot water and a/c, you’ll have to walk up several flights of steps. If you’ve never used an on-demand hot water heater, you might ask for some instructions, as our first shower, after nearly 24 hours of traveling, was tepid. In addition, be advised that the hotel’s laundry service is about 500% higher than what we paid other places in Thailand, and the results were dingy, at best, and not even delivered on time. The best thing about The Atlanta was Anong, the restaurant manager, who greeted us upon arrival with a fresh fruit drink and welcomed us each time we returned to the hotel or restaurant, which has very good food, but in nearly 2 weeks in Thailand, we never had a bad meal, after all. We did stay 4 nights, mainly from the lack of inertia, a side effect of jet lag. There are some very good deals available online for much nicer hotels. If you want an experience far removed from the cookie cutter room of a high-rise chain hotel, this may well be your cup of tea. And for the record, my husband and I are in complete agreement with The Atlanta’s policy as far as sex tourism is concerned,

Room Tip: I'm not a big fan of a/c but you need it here.

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the last 8 years and cannot recommend it enough.

Since my first stay in Feb 2004 I have always been welcomed like a beloved member of their small family ever since. Staying at this hotel it like stepping back in time and im addicted! (See attached picture)

We stayed here because we had friends joining us on our 'Old People's Gap Year' for a couple of weeks and thought that they'd balk at the hostels we were staying in - costing around £10 a night. This was ideal for the price (£17 a night/double en-suite) as it had a swimming pool, nice lobby/lounge with wifi and great restaurant. Actually the restaurant was the jewel in the crown as the food (and wine, Mr. Wine buyer!) was delicious and very reasonably priced. Had we been alone, we would not have stayed here - but as it was, it was just right in these circumstances. Very quirky. Staff seem a little quiet, but Lek (on the tour desk) should be crowned Queen of Stray-Cat feeding because she's such a caring lady.

Room Tip: Room with 2 double beds was the same price as a 'normal' one bed double.

Arrived at hotel without a booking and were informed there was only an A/C twin room. I was with my fiance so requested a double which they said was unavailable. Ten minutes later the receptionist said she had a fan double room so we took that as it wasn't particularly hot in Bangkok at that time. We were getting settled in and went to have a shower, but to our surprise the room had no hot water so it was cold showers only! When we questioned the receptionist she simply said that the room had no hot water, no apology or offer of alternative room.

We requested to move into an A/C double with hot water for the following three nights but they were unable to take the booking until midday the following day, meaning complete uncertainty as to what was happening. The room also smelt strongly of cigarette smoke and was dirty and tatty, and on top of all that the staff were completely miserable and unhelpful.

On a positive note the large sixties style reception area is very nice, the pool is a nice touch for this price and the bed was comfortable. These were not enough to sway us into staying more than the one night so we left the following morning and checked into a much nicer hotel. Another slight annoyance was the inability to make a reservation online but instead a 90's style fax system was still being used! Overall, one to be avoided!
