Upon arrival, service was rude and unhelpful. The rooms view was of a wall covered in ac units. The remote didnt work for the small screen tv. Room service was late, the coffee instant, the juice out of a can and no breakfast included. The bathroom was dirty and the shower uncomfortable.

There's a complicated backstory with this hotel, which used to be called the New World Lodge and was renamed New World City Hotel and then later a second modern hotel was built behind it, called the Nuovo World City Hotel. So, there are now two hotels, the older 50's hotel, and the modern nuovo.

Most internet sites book the older hotel, with 50's rooms that are decent, but show wear. The air-con is noisy, which can be difficult for light sleepers if you need it running at night. The toilet and shower are ok, but show their age. Mattress a bit lumpy. However if you get a decent room, it can be a decent refuge from the noise of Bangkok as the hotel is situated right on the canal, away from Samsen street. There are a number of reasonably priced little restaurants and street food out back on soi 2 and further.

Most important though to get a room facing the Khlong as the backside of the hotel just faces the Nuovo, so just a noisy wall full of air-con units buzzing all the time. As well, get a room high enough (floor 5 and above) and on the east end of the building (away from Samsen) as there's a huge bank of noisy hotel air-con and air vents on the west side. Get the right room and the hotel is quite pleasant.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms at the back, facing the Nuovo hotel, and also avoid lower rooms on the front, west s...

When arriving in Bangkok the hotel provided a driver to pick us up which saved us having to get a taxi and negotiate price!, the driver friendly and the journey pleasant enough.
The Hotel its self is situated down a side road which ensured a good nights sleep and only five minutes walk to Ko San Road which is very handy.
The hotel and rooms are very clean but parts of it need redecorating and a lick of paint! The rooms are spacious, come with air con which is much needed, a fridge and a great view of Bangkok from the balcony.
Compared to most Hotels in Bangkok it is reasonably priced and comes with a buffet breakfast, very tasty and lots to choose from. The restaurant and gardens are full of exotic plants and birds.
This is my second visit and I will come again.

stayed 3 nights feb.10-11-12 2013 small mix up over breakfast included. a major hassle too rectify. this was a BUFFET meal. most of the food was asian that did not appeal to me. finally a manager made a common sense decision to allow me to join for breakfast and waive the 200baht charge. due to a 3am departure i wanted to stay 1 more night. the rate went from about $36 to $51. a cab on the street to the airport was about 300 baht. the hotel charged 600 baht for a shared ride. the house computers were 30bant per hour. about the only thing they did'nt charge extra for was toilet paper! that being said, the room was ok but the shower had a too short and too narrow a shower curtain, no sill so the whole floor was soaked. a slippery and very inconvient pain. the staff at the desk was very nice but had to follow policy. all in all an unpleasant stay. it has an adjoining sister hotel that they encourage you to use its swimming pool @ an additional $10 (about 300 baht) per day.

First impression after entering the room: so much noise coming from a hundred of air conditioners! Even some people had luck to get the room looking another side of the building, on the channel. Try ask for such a room. Breakfast was good, not too rich but not poor, fruits, vegetables, rice, soy sausages. Hotel has a nice terrace looking on the channel (little bit stinky). It's only 5 min walk from Khao Sun street, where you can enjoy massage, drinks, great food. Stuff is helpful and nice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room whose windows are not close to bunch of air conditioners.

We were going to stay three nights in Bangkok, and the New World City Hotel was booked for us. Although in the Khao San area, it is not a budget hotel, I don't call 2400 baht per night budget, when you can get a four star like the Prince Palace for 1800. The hotel is rundown and dirty. If an hotel is old it can still be clean! The beds were clean and comfortabel
The 2nd day I drew the managers attention to the extreme amount of accumulated dirt and dust in the room.
Staff was quitte willing to rectify, but the amount of accumulated dirt should be seen to be believed. It should never have gotten that dirty. I am not exaggerating, have been in the cleaning business for quite a while and know wat is acceptable.
Breakfast is simpel, hot dishes are not covered, so everything gets cold.
All in all, an experience that will not be repeated!

Room Tip: I would not go there!

the hotel is only 5 minutues per feet away from the most crowded place i know in bangkok...the khaosan road. the lobby is equipped with elevator and tourist desk. in a seperate house near the khlong is a hotel owned massage salon in which we enjoyed good massages in a quiet surrounding. the rooms of the hotel are realy big and airconditioned with bathroom in european standard and very clean. they are furnished in modern style with refrigerator, minibar and television and a balcony to the khlongside of the hotel. there it is allowed to smoke. an extraordinary breakfast from a versatile thai / european buffet...which gave us a perfect base for the whole day... is included in the roomrate. the hotel has a big room for stow luggage. there we left all our bought and heavy things we didn´t need before we went further to small islands.
the staff is very friendly and helpful in any case and gave us some golden tipps to explore the city by express boat, because the river is very near. the location for shopping is realy not perfect, because there is only the expensive and very crowded khaosan area. to reache the big shopping malls like mbk, siam center or siam paragon we had to take a taxi, a tuktuk or after a 20 minute walk a khlong boat taxi, where the station is near the golden mount. every option needs time, but the shortest time we needed was the khlong boat, because there is not that typical traffic which is normal for bangkok.

Room Tip: try to get a room on the khlongside...the panorama is simply nicer than on the other side.
