“Hidden treasure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2013

Hidden down an alley next to a fish market (I think it was), the Silom City Hotel was an absolute paradise. Clean, bight, fresh; they had got it right with this one! The rooms were spacious, well stocked and the house keeping team were quite obviously proud of what they did.

The food was tremendous, both at breakfast and when we ate in their restaurant.

At $40 per night including breakfast you cannot expect too much. The rooms are dated and worn with an old TV but there was plenty of hot water and the room was reasonably clean.

WIFI was free and the day staff was helpful and friendy.

We had a little issue on checkout when we were asked to pay for water that was provided in the rooms. There is free water provided in bottles and paid water provided in plastic containers but it was not obvious which was which and we inadvertently used the paid ones.

Again the lovely lady on reception let this slide when we explained the situation which was nice. This is not a big issue and not a lot of money but still worth checking.

All in all reasonable value for money.

Room Tip: There are a couple of laundry services in the same street

1. Hotel is located at a traffic free route from Airport. It is located near to all the worth while places in Bangkok.
2. Although the street across the hotel seems very awkward with extremely foul smell, but you can simply ask the hotel people to arrange a taxi for you. They will do that and will ensure that you get taxi with meter rather than negotiating prices.
3. We were inside the hotel only for sleeping rest of the time we were just wandering and enjoying in the whole city of bangkok.
4. Breakfast was nice, although it might a little challenged to all those who are vegetarian.
5. The cool thing is that they have FREE WIFI and even if you dont have laptop or any other wifi device they have a lab on the ground floor where you can use their system for browsing.

Room Tip: Take rooms on the 2nd or 3rd floor

With the help of the National Geographic guide book we found this little jem. The hotel is basic, clean, the staff are great but what is best is the location. I would recommend this to anyone spending a few days in Bangkok .

Room Tip: Great views on the higher levels

The location is convenient but would rather stay close to the main street. The hotel is good but had a terrible housekeeping that forgets to replenish the toiletries. Comfortable bed & the deluxe room is ok. The morning shift security is very friendly but the male receptionist had this attitude & hardly smile at all. The room service is until 23:00 only so if you want a midnight snack you either go out or buy something before you go back to the hotel.

Location: Its inside the alley however its quite unlike most of the budget hotel in BKK very noisy still accessible to BTS a 10-15min walk and very near also to main road so its not scary at all adjacent street is an alley of food so theres no problem to get hungry.
Staff: Friendly attends to every needs. Service with a smile.
Room: Size is enough with its standard they refill also the coffee and water everyday.
Overall: Highly Recommended

Silom City Hotel is a decent place to stay for a few days and its staff made my experience a pleasant one. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is traveling on a bugdet but expects to receive great service and 3 star amenities. They have a different breakfast buffet every morning and offer a good selective lunch and dinner menu. The standard rooms are clean and well maintained. The small refrigerator, electronic control box, free water and slippers is a plus. The only thing I would suggest to this hotel is that they lower the shower curtin to prevent the bathroom floor from getting wet after every shower. Besides that everything was great. It's location is a bit tucked away in a narrow street but near the Sky train (best way to get to and from airport) and minutes away from many shopping centers. Try the vast variety of fruits from the street vendors adjacent to the hotel and get an inexpensive traditional Thai massage within walking distance. There are many fun things to do within 15 miles of this hotel but don't wear yourself out trying to see them all in one day. Pick your top 3 favorite attractions and eat everything that looks delicious along the way. Most of all relax and enjoy your adventures in Bangkok because Thailand is full of them. The peolpe are friendly and the city is very organized and safe for tourists if you use common sense. Always be kinds to others and respect one anothers space and you will have a great experience in the city. I enjoyed my stay at Silom City Hotel and I hope you all do too.
