“OK, if you want that area”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

I was here to meet a tour group. The people at the front desk were not that helpful. Internet is VERY expensive. I heard they tack on a huge fee if they call you a taxi. The room was fine, nothing fancy. Breakfast was very good. I suppose if you are just in Bangkok of a day or so and want to see the sites in this area, which are great, then this might be better than some of the other places on Khao San.

Room not really nice. If we compare prices with other places, it's expensive. Really nice with included breakfast. Place in the middle of historic area in Bangkok, really good, quiet but close to popular places

We didn't have a choice on where to stay as we went to Thailand on a tour. If you do have the choice on where to stay in Bangkok stay well away from this place.

Yes the location is brilliant, which makes it even more shocking why the place is so awful.

Simply put the entire building is dirty, we had two rooms both were disgusting and filthy, the second stank of sewers!

We stayed in Bangkok for 3 nights and booked a package with transfer, tours, ... which included this hotel.

The staff was nice and friendly. The breakfast was good, not many things to choose for "western style" but what the offered was good (toast, fried egg and ham).

The location is really good, close to Khao San road (5 min walk) but still quiet.

Rooms were clean but little old with some damage on the walls . Air Con worked very well - but no wifi.

Pool is nice to relax after hours of sightseeing but quite small.

Royal hotel Bangkok

A faded gem architecturally that seems to live on past glories and coach tour parties. Very conveniently located for the sites of central Bangkok. Breakfasts were a limited mixture of Western and Eastern food. The rooms are comfortable but noisy at the front of the hotel and wifi is only available in the lobby and costs 150 baht for 3 hours - most hotels in Thailand seem to offer free wifi. The staff generally seemed rather weary and snooty and some seemed unable (incompetent?) to link a computer to their printer, expecting guests to go out on a wet night to internet cafes in a nearby street to print off flight check-in details. As a first and last stop for 'smiling' Thailand, the staff were a sour advert.

A faded glory! What a pity that the maintenance is lacking because the architecture is stunning. Rooms are adequate and clean, although the bed and pillows very hard and everything is worn or needing maintenance. Very convenient position, within walking distance to Grand Palace, Reclining Budda and river. Reception staff most unhelpful, but dinig room staff pleasant. Pom, in the entrance looking after tours, is excellent. So nice to be greeted by a friendly face. Reception staff could take a lesson from him.

Room Tip: We were 2nd floor and had double glazing on windows, so although outside it was very busy, the room...

We stayed here for 3 nights having had the accommodation booked for us through a company. The room was old fashioned but very clean (which is the main thing) and cleaned every day!
The location is great, very central, walking distance to temples and 5 minutes to khao San road, perfect if u want the nightlife without the noise!!
The staff at reception weren't overall friendly but the security staff and other staff were excellent, especially Pom!! The breakfast buffet was very good but get in there early for a full selection!!
The swimming pool came as a good surprise for us and as we were there only a short time we used it once, it was clean and refreshing after a day trekking around temples!
The lack of wifi (only in lobby at a cost) was a real shame and I would have rated this hotel better if wifi would have been available for free!
Overall a good experience!
