not really excellent but giving the high vote so it gets bumped up a bit. would say however it's a very good day to spend if you've done many of the other popular sites. cost is a 100 baht and no dress code. if your here on a special race day a collared shirt may be required. the crowd today 90% Thai and 50+ tourists getting in on the action.
you can bet win, place, trifecta and quinella. no show and other bets just the four options. the track gets busy as its only twice a month but they have over 8 betting stations and wherever your sitting there will be one close by. many options on where to view available, no assigned seats or anything. did notice private booths with air condition above everyone. so with your 100 baht entry fee you can sit first row level with the track or move up to above levels for the full view.
today's races (10 of them) were all 1200 meter races and ran 13 to 15 horses per race. a span of close to 40 minutes per race. arriving at 1:30 we were able to catch 6 races on the later arrival and easily placed bets. we were betting blind and just having fun not knowing the odds and had a great time not knowing what we would make. never won once but placed four times. for exmaple we won 140 baht on a 100 baht bet then 980 baht on a 100 baht bet so the not knowing kept us excited.
they sell sheets outside the gates for 100 baht or you can just borrow a sheet from the bet takers inside the cage. same cages will be the collection spot if your a winner. all the races posted in a timely matter aside the last race. took a good 15 minutes to post. also by the cages they have monitors and TV's where people love to view as well since they can see the numbers on the horses and watch them advance and see a much clearer view then watching from the stands. if not a serious better then the stands will be a better experience every time.
food is all over and there's even runners in the stands with trays. beers and other drinks sold inside and readily available. found myself on a beer every race and day time drinking not my thing. none the less beer (can) will cost 45 baht each. it can get hot so they also have thai desserts and ice cream. if you didn't bring enough money they conveniently have two ATM machines after they tear your ticket. what I noticed is bets as low as 50 baht and up to 200,000. even special windows for 1000 baht and above.
exciting enough to recommend. interested myself to see what happen during the rainy season. in the middles of the field there was golf and cricket going on. good luck if you find yourself here. 700 meters from Siam BTS. far enough for us to take a motor bike taxi, 20 baht each way pp. should say we lost a total of 1200 baht (37$) but had a blast.
