“Boutique hotel with character”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

I stayed here because it was featured in Conde Nast Traveler's 154 Best New Hotels in the World in its May 2013 edition and it didn't disappoint. I love the details in the hotel. It is situated within walking distance to a train station and even the Emporium mall, but at the end of the short Sukhumvit 45 road, which makes the area quiet. Upon entering the hotel, there's the Joy Luck Club lounge, which harkens back to the early 1900s design and architecture. There are two vintage Louis Vuitton trunk and it has a library where you can lounge and read books.

(I wish they could provide the option to purchase the books in the library. I saw one book I really wanted, but I was told it was not for sale--and I couldn't find it in any bookstore in Bangkok, which was a shame really. But it's a minor quibble.)

The amenities in the room includes a free minibar and free international and local calls. (Yes, you read that right: FREE international and local calls).

It is very homey and there is an elegance to the way the room and the hotel was designed. That said, this is a hotel that's meant to be experienced and not just slept in. If you're the kind of tourist who just needs a bed to sleep on after a long day of wandering around then this might not be for you. But if you're the kind of tourist who looks for character, loves books, and is appreciative of design and architecture, then this hotel is for you. You need to relish a few moments in this hotel, even for breakfast (which is complimentary), to truly appreciate the beauty of it.

The restaurant serves authentic Thai and Laos cuisine (read: spicy). They're very tasty, but they come in small portions (which is common in Southeast Asian nations). The servers and wait staff are very nice and attentive.

Do not breeze through the hotel as this is the kind of hotel where time is slow and is meant to be enjoyed.

Room Tip: -The hotel is close to the Quince restaurant which is an upscale restaurant with shabby chic aesthet...

We recently stayed at the Cabochon and found it delightful. Like stepping back in time. What a find in frantic Bangkok. We were upgraded to a suit which was lovely. Two separate rooms which were both huge. The rain shower was fantastic. The bed was very comfortable. breakfast was individually served not a buffet which we preferred.
We expected Somerset Maughan to appear at any moment as the hotel felt like an old fashioned gentleman's residence. perhaps the last reviewer would be better off staying in a modern glass and steel monstrosity.
The service was wonderful. Ring could not have been more helpful.
Looking forward to going back again next year.

Room Tip: Upgrading to the suit is a good idea

A beautiful recently built "Colonial Style" property on Sukhumvit soi 45. The service and manager is great however the physical product needs quite some rethinking. Rooms are nice in size however poorly lit, bathroom tiny with one sink, no luggage rack, televison poorly placed, breakfast very very basic and not up to what would be expected in a small boutuque hotel. The breakfast sitting is uncomfortable on very low tables (tables below the knees), so not a comfy enjoyable breakfast. We didn't have dinner there however restaurant setyting was beautiful. Bed only 160 cm wide so a quuen size. Shower dirty in the corners (black) and in need of a deep clean. Shampoo and shower gel dispenser didn't work properly !

Cabochon Hotel is very well located and it's service is excellent. We've been to this hotel five times and we've made it our home in Bangkok. We've also recommended this to our friends, and they've had good experiences there as well. Great rooms, good value and delicious breakfast! The Thai Lao Yeh Restaurant at their ground floor is a must try!

We stayed altogther nine nights at Cabochon and I still have the feeling that it was not long enough. We loved the hotel, especially the people there. We felt like home and the whole team was a dream, nice, attentive, discret. The service is awsome!
Cabochon is a boutique hotel and family owned, which gives it that special touch! It is located at the end of Sukhumvit soi 45, about 10 minutes away from the BTS next to the Emporium Mall and one BTS station to the MRT Asoke. The area around has a lot of bars, restaurants and shops. One trendy spot Quince is in the same soi of Cabochon, right in front. When we stayed there, Cabochon hosted a pop up store of Pim Sukhahuta "Sretsis" with hip clothes, which we never would have realized and never had seen Bangkoks hip crowed shopping.
The decoration of the hotel is amazing and outstanding. You can feel the love to details and antique, unique decorations. Only for that you should pass by and have lunch/ dinner there. The breakfast is excellent, high quality and tasteful arranged. You have a selection of pastry and fruits, soup and home made jam. Then you can choose also from a menu with a good selection of egg dishes, french toast (really delicious) and very good thai dishes. You can sit outside at the terrace which is great. Do not expect a big buffet! if you need something like that, it is not the right place to stay. We also recommend the Thai Lao Yeh Restaurant, which serves excellent Thai food, which we enjoyed every evening.
The rooms are also very nice and tasteful decorated. We had two types of suites, both wonderful. But the studios looked very nice as well, but with three people or more I would take a suite. It has no bathtube, just to inform and the bathroom is rather small, which was fine for us. The pool is great with a very nice view and a good place to get some rest.
Cabochon is mentioned in the Wallpaper City Guide on the first page of his hotel recommendations.
It is very familiar and peaceful atmosphere, quiet and away from all the hustle. We loved it and will come back, especially for our little baby boy who enjoyed staying there with us very much. For us it was paradies! Thank you so much Cabochon team for such an outstanding stay in Bangkok!

Room Tip: We had two types of suites, which we recommend if you are more than two people. Both were really nic...

60 or so metres down a soi and away from bustling Sukhumvit Road, the Cabochon was a welcoming oasis of tranquillity. It was clean, comfortable, quiet and well appointed with a genuinely friendly staff. We saw almost no other guests, giving an illusion of having this beautiful property with its quirky decorations to ourselves. As this was a family stay (grandparents, parents, toddler and baby), we chose a 2 bedroom apartment at the front, with large living area, good sized bedrooms, each with ensuite (one with a HUGE bathtub) and kitchen (complete with washing machine/dryer. Plenty of room to be together or to seek solitude as the mood dictated. Breakfast was reasonable and eating it on the front veranda with discreet and attentive service made it a most enjoyable start to the day. The pool area on the roof was impressive (we didn't swim or sunbake), with good district views. Lastly, for people who hadn't been to Bangkok before and really didn't know its layout, the close proximity to the skytrain was the icing on the cake.

Have been to Bankgok a couple of times for short stays and this time I decided I wanted a small hotel to keep me away from the bustling streets be able to relax on a 4 day long weekend!!!

I chose Cabochon as all the reviews gave it good rates and the place has only 8 rooms so it was just what I was looking for!

To start with let me tell you the hotel is full of little old bits and bobs, books, antiques, and a very simple and elegant decoration that sets this place apart from most of the hotels I have been to. The location is also good as its only 7 minutes away from BTS.

The rooms are also spacious, clean and greatly decorated also with lots of taste giving the hotel and stay a "feeling at home" vibe. After the long walks around the city and late night dinners I just couldnt wait to get back "home"

Breakfast is simple but with quality ingredients, good fruit, nice omelletes, tasty frech toast with that homemade feel! The only bad thing to point out would be the orange juice as its not natural. Thailand has amazing fruits, maybe they should try fresh mango or passionfruit instead!

The restaurant is also very nice, serving great Thai spicyyyy food and with an open kitchen where you can see how all the food is being prepared!

Rooftop pool is pleasant, great for swimmers as its quite long and does the trick on the usual hot Bangkok days, only two parasols available though so take enough protection. I cant imagine going to Bangkok and staying in a hotel that doesnt have a pool. Even if its not a big one!

The service in the hotel is also top notch. The receptionist Rain was always there with a smile and helped in all possible ways for everything we needed as well as all the other staff.

Like I said attention to detail in all aspects, this hotel stands out for sure!

Room Tip: Try to choose a room on the front side of the hotel. The suites are great to go with family if you g...
