This is a true boutique hotel, beautifully designed and wonderfully located right on the Chao Phraya river. the nearest river boat station is right under the hotel, which is very convenient.
Service: impeccable! warm, friendly and professional staff.
Location: If you want to stay close to the Kao San Road area, this place is a 5 minute walk away. So it's perfect if you miss your backpacking days as I do...
Rooms are beautiful. If you can get the river view - even better.
There are 2 or 3 very popular and noisy restaurants across the street, but we didn't hear anything from our rooms.
If you like staying in hotels with "character", you'll love Riva Surya.
My only remark would be about the restaurant. The waiters and kitchen staff are not as skilled as the rest of the staff. Even ordering a drink or a cup of coffee takes quite a long time.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the river. It's just beautiful and probably more quiet than the rooms f...

We booked this hotel through Jetsetter.com, but I was worried that the pictures may have been deceptively flattering. However, the photos don't do it justice! Riva Surya is a totally beautiful hotel, an oasis in the city. The breakfast is fresh and delicious, served in the garden patio area. Every morning we explored the city, and every afternoon we relaxed by the pool, drank mojitos and enjoyed the view of the river. The staff were excellent, the beds super comfy, and the decor modern Thai-chic. I would definitely come again!

Room Tip: The rooms facing the pool and river are supposed to be quieter, but the rooms facing the street have...

Conveniently located at pier no 9 (easy travel by water taxi to some of the highlights if you wish to do sightseeing) and close to Khaosan Road. Taxi ride to MBK is ca 80 THB. Very clean rooms, very nice breakfast and all the staff was extremely friendly. The pool area is nice and clean and we loved the warm water in the pool as we had a negative experience at one of the big 5* hotels in BKK where the water was too cold. The only downside is the bar opposite the hotel with a band playing live music until midnight. The roadside rooms are quite noisy. The restaurant has a lovely terrace and serves nice Thai Food.

This hotel has a great location, friendly staff, beautiful rooms and is a an excellent value. This was our first visit to Bangkok and we will stay here again. Reviewers have commented that the river side is preferred (for noise and the view), we were unable to get rooms on that side but I can tell you that the noise was not a problem (on the fifth floor). I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Get a river side room or if on the city side, a room on the upper floors

Stayed in this hotel for one night while on a stopover in Bangkok. Initially seeming like a nice hotel, I found it was lacking in many areas.

First the good things:
It's located close to Khao San road. If you need to get to the Sky Train, you can get to the train by taking a boat on the river (takes 30 minutes). The hotel is clean, has a nice design, the staff is courteous and the breakfast selection is ok. There's a pool overlooking the river, and the hotel offers a selection of massages.

Then the bad things:
The staff's English skills are not the best, and it can be difficult to communicate with some of them. The hotel is quite noisy, especially if facing the street. I was told that since they have double-glazed windows, there would be no noise issues. This is not true - it's better to stay on the river side, as it's very noisy (even if staying on the top floor). Also, I was in a hurry the next morning, so I decided to check out the evening before. To my surprise, I had to wait for the housekeeping to check my minibar before I could leave the hotel the next morning. Not the greatest feeling that the last communication with the hotel staff would be filled with mistrust. A few days after I had checked out, I received an e-mail from the hotel accusing me of certain issues I don't want to get into here. Turns out they sent the e-mail to the wrong person, as the e-mail was intended for another guest... The staff should definitely be trained better.

Certainly the negatives outweigh the positives for me. Therefore, I will look for another hotel in Bangkok the next time I'm there.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the river

The Riva Surya is a gem. Our standard Riva Room was fantastic. Magical views of the river and stylish comfort. The riverside pool and dinning area is beautiful, the food is delicious and the charming staff are endlessly helpful. The location on the river close to the major river boat stop is very convenient for connecting with major sites and the Skytrain connection to land based mass transit.
