“2nd stay, look forward to the 3rd”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

There are so many hotels in Bangkok, it can be difficult to chose. I have found the hotel I prefer. This was my 2nd time at Hotel Mermaid. My first stay was 2 years ago where I stayed for only a few days. This time I had an entire week in Bangkok, and I returned to the hotel because I liked it so much the first time around. In my opinion, the hotel really offers great value for money.

The hotel did not disappoint. Quite the opposite. The staff is welcoming and professional, there's a pool, tourbooking, and most important: the rooms are great: spacious, spotlessly clean, nice design, they are cleaned every day with fresh towels and toiletries. The bed is big (I could actually sleep diagonally) and the mattress excellent. Bathroom facilities are great, I really like the design!

There is always at leaset 2 bottles of water in the fridge, and there's a 24/hr minimart on the way to Asok Skytrain, (the sign says 24hr, it is pink and it's down a short flight of stairs right next to the shrine with the funky statute, on the same side of the road as the hotel in the direktion of Asok), so you can fill the fridge if you are there for a longer stay.

For breakfast, there is a selection of food (toast, butter, jam, eggs, ham, fried rice, sausages, bacon, cereal), fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juice and if you drink coffee, take the one from the machine instead of the one from the pot next to the tea.

The restaurant makes great pizzas. I usually don't eat pizza when travelling in SE Asia, but after a full day of shopping, I decided to spoil myself: hot shower, jump in the robe, order room service and eat pizza in bed watching TV. It was great! :-) There is a good selection of english speaking news channels and a few movie channels.

The location is good - on Sukhumvit Soi 29, it's only a short walk to Asok Skytrain / MRT.

We stayed here for four nights in total on our trip around Thailand. It is a bit far out but the Skytrain is easily accessible and taxis are available outside. It is good for a base and even has a small pool if you have time. Breakfast was simple, cereal and a choice of eggs, bacon etc... You can book tours from the hotel. Rooms were clean, modern and staff were very helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms are a bit loud as they are all adjoining.

Tucked away down a quiet Soi not far away from Asok and terminal 21 is a bit of peace and quiet, A small hotel, with good, clean affordable accommodation it is actually a little jem and I'll happily return.
Basic but adequate facilities, nice small pool, good clean rooms, bar and restaurant, with excellent staff, very attentive and always ready to help with a cheery smile.
The breakfast, while limited to choice is acceptable, And in the evening is a Brazilian BBQ buffet, give it a go as the food just keeps coming and coming.
The bedrooms have probably got the most comfortable bedding ever, it's like sleeping in silk,
The views from the bedroom at the front of the hotel have hardly got the worlds best views, but this is Bangkok,And there's always building work going on, So I can't blame the hotel there.
A couple of sleepless nights, one to do with the world cup,Again it's not the hotels fault for the 3am kick off (but do you really need to be open that early in the morning?) And another night a party which finished at 1am, Maybe sound proofing the bar, or turning the music down,As probably the whole of floor 2 was kept awake,
Otherwise a perfect place to stay,

Room Tip: choose a room above the second floor because the bar below can be a bit noisy

I stayed here my last few days in BKK and really enjoyed it. Usually a lower budget kind of traveler but decided to splurge and get a corner room with a balcony. Had a good view overlooking the pool and slept like a baby on the comfortable beds. Very relaxing after a busy month of travel. The bathrooms were pretty cool too with a tub and separate waterfall shower. There is also a glowing blue "relax" light behind the bed that makes a nice ambiance in the room. Good location too just off Sukhumvit but far enough away that you dont hear the busy street.

The hotel was really clean and the room was spacious. The bathroom was big and clean, aircon kept the room cool and we were provided with complimentary water. The staff were all friendly, helping us with our suitcases and helping us to book taxis. The pool is clean, but due to the number of high rise buildings it doesn't get much sun! Breakfast was nice with a lot of choice, however the yoghurts were out of date. The hotel is also close to the sky train which is useful as it can be difficult to get a taxi! Lot's of places to eat and drink in the local area, too.

One of the best hotels i have stayed in. Very clean and the service was outstanding. Only 2 years old and a very reasonable priced hotel. Will be staying next time i am there. The girls on the desk could not do enough to look after us. Rooms were spotless. Very comfortable bed. Can not speak high enough of this great hotel.

Stayed here for one night. Very cozy room with lots of space and a good internet connection. Great location too -- walking distance to the BTS and metro, taxis had no trouble finding the place, and there were taxis waiting right outside when I needed a ride to the airport at 5am. I didn't stick around long enough to try the pool or the breakfast (I'm not sure if there even was a breakfast), but in terms of the quality of the room it was just as good as Legacy Suites which is next door and twice as expensive.

My one complaint is that I got a room right next to the elevator, and I could hear it dinging all night making it hard to fall asleep.
