“Still a gem!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

We went to Ciao after some time, was regular before. Everything was nice as would be expected of the Oriental. The atmosphere by the river can't be beat, the Oriental is situated on the most beautiful spot of the Chao Phyra river in Bangkok. I was entertaining a guest who was staying in house at the hotel. The food we ordered was all very good focaccia, bruschetta, burrata cheese, rucola salad(off the menu), tiger prawns, trout, and a spinach and ricotta ravioli. The tiramisu was divine. The service great! We had lots to discuss and sat for an hour after settling the bill!! (which was 1.00 am!) Of course they were closed but the staff were very generous and did not ask us to leave. Always something special at the Oriental!!

“Marvellous experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014

An extraordinary Italian restaurant with one of the finest views in the world. The world's best hotel never disappoints and dining at Ciao whilst gazing at the fairy light festooned river boats is a culinary experience not to be missed. Bravo Ciao!! Fabulous cuisine with the always outstanding Mandarin Oriental Bangkok service.

“Absolutely Delicious!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

The food by Executive Sous Chef Stefan Trepp was amazing. Absolutely off the charts! You must try it when you get the chance. By far, one of the best Italian food restaurants I've been to (restaurants in Italy included!). I am still daydreaming about the food the morning after...it was that good. A bit pricey though, as one would expect from dining in a 5-star hotel, so perhaps celebrate something when you go there? ;)

Ciao is by the river so it's easy to access via the Mandarin Oriental boat from BTS Saphan Taksin. The ambiance is nice, very chill music and the staff are very amicable and attentive.

DISCLAIMER: I visited in February 2013 (unfortunately tripadvisor's review date option only allowed me to select as far back as August 2013).

“Ciao, CIAO.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

Yikes. What a bad restaurant. I'm a frequent diner of the Oriental Hotel and this is NOT up to the standards of the Oriental. Verandah for breakfast. Lord Jim's for dinner. Bamboo bar for a drink. But Ciao is very poor quality. I don't know if the Italian chef was off last night, but I've had better Italian food at Wine Connection in Bangkok. Seriously. Bruschetta was unimaginative and standard issue fair…I can make better. The "flat bread" was so salty and covered in the cheapest mozzarella cheese. Wow…close this place before it destroys the name of your hotel. BAD.

“Very nice food, okay service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

Dined outside with several girlfriends for a nice lunch. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. It was strange being the only ones there, but that wasn't an issue. Service was just okay considering we were the only ones there. Biggest issue for us (and something we still joke about!) was that, despite asking for "naam plao" we were very surprised to see that we had each been billed 300b for still water. We were a large party, so this came to $80USD for water! We all remarked that the water service could have been much better (cups always filled) for this amount! Mai pen rai, lesson learned.
