Stayed at The Berkeley Hotel for three night stopover. Booked the room via Agoda.com, reserving a twin room luxury suite and breakfast included for an absolute steal! The rooms are very grand; beds and bedding an absolute dream to sleep in! We found The Berkeley was a perfect way to 'wind down' after a very full on twelve week trip.

I had not ever visited Bangkok before, but I assume The Berkeley is located in one of the city's main districts. There is an adjoining mall, and further malls and street markets in neighbouring streets. There are taxis and drivers who line the streets out the front of the hotel, and therefore easy to find and barter for transport. BE WARNED: make sure to have the exact address, and if possible, written in Thai also as taxi drivers often have very little idea of where particular malls/locations are. Perhaps pay attention to what other significant hotels are in the general vicinity to help as a guide.

Breakfast buffet is incredible! The best selection and choice to be had throughout our trip.

Staff are incredibly friendly and lovely to speak to. My only concern was that at times, there appear to be a lot more staff than guests in the lobby, and at times there appears to be communication breakdowns between staff.

For something to do, my recommendation would be to visit The Banyan Tree Hotel; the rooftop bar offers some incredible views of Bangkok by night.

Although I probably will not visit Bangkok again by choice, I highly recommend The Berkeley Hotel for any stay in Thailand.

The Berkeley is a new hotel and so it's offering really good deals which makes for good value. Good location with Platinum Fashion Mall just diagonally across the hotel and a new mall called Palladium which is attached to the hotel. This mall isn't quite fully occupied though. But you get the usual "wholesale" deals here too. And the streets around the hotel come alive in the evenings when the night markets come on .... there're food stalls and cheap fashion buys up for grabs. The huge mall, CentralWorld is just a stone's throw away too.

We booked a Premier Family Room for 3 and were pleasantly surprised when they upgraded us to a corner Luxury Suite Room with 2 Queen-sized beds (able to sleep 4 comfortably). The room was very spacious and offered a good view of the mall CentralWorld and the streets around the city. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well. We enjoyed our 4-night stay in the room except for the fact that we couldn't quite adjust the temp of the air-conditioning system; appears the hotel controls it or had set it to a default temp. The bathroom was a good size and my only feedback is that the door to the shower area wasn't water-tight...water always flowed out.

Staff were polite and generally fine, although housekeeping didn't quite seem to understand our request in English and so they never came back to us with what we needed.

If you need a taxi to get around, don't depend on the staff to get one for you because they aren't usually at the entrance to help you hail one. We always had to go back in and ask the bell-hops at the concierge area to get one for us. And when we asked for a taxi to take us to the airport, the bell-hop whipped out a sign with info on the cost for a ride to the airport - 500bht for a "small" cab. Strange they seem to "endorse" a flat fee and do not offer to get taxis that go by the meter. I asked for one that would charge by the meter but the bell-hop brushed my request aside and informed me that that was the usual price etc.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay because at the discounted rate, it was very good value for money.

I was a little concerned by some of the previous reviews having booked the hotel months before it had opened at a bargain rate. However on arrival I found that mostly all of the issues had been resolved. The reception was very quick to process us and upgraded us to Tower 1 (which is the more convenient of the two) and our bags were taken straight up by the bellboy. Breakfast was pretty good with a blend of Euro, Asian and Indian dishes - the usual processed juices and a great mix of fruit each day. The pool was spectacular and any previous comments of it being dirty were obviously now outdated - it was very clean and had amazing views of the city AND nobody was using it (always a bonus!). The staff were very friendly and attentive, their English was great considering some previous comments of language issues. The room itself was spacious and we had a view of Central World/Zen etc which was spectacular of a night. Only thing missing was an iron but crumpled shirts soon fix themselves in the humidity outside!

Room Tip: Tower 1 is more convenient for access to the pool, breakfast and main entrance.

My daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights , meeting up in Thailand after long haul flights from distant places, Great place, very comfortable, room service great, close to shopping malls, good views over Bangkok..lovely staff, feeling of warmth, help on hand for everything. Reasonable price for the location, no complaints.

Room Tip: I think all rooms are going to be similar, we stayed on the 19 th floor, it was quiet, and we had su...

This hotel has been open less than 4 months and is having some normal teething problems whilst training up their staff and finishing off details. The special opening deals they have make the teething problems acceptable as it is a fantastic hotel in a good location. There are 2 large towers holding hundreds of rooms and I simply don't think there were enough experienced staff to man it. Once completely finished (fitness centre and all the restaurants) this will be one of the top hotels in Bangkok. You would have a right to complain if paying full price but as I say, the opening specials make it fantastic value for money.

Room Tip: Be patient - the staff are in training!

I brought my mum for a 4 day getaway in Bangkok and wanted to stay near the Platinum shopping mall. The Berkeley is new (less than 1 year) and very reasonably priced. However none of the taxi or tuktuk drivers know about this new hotel and we ended up having to call the hotel for directions every time we board one. To cross over to the Platinum, Central World, Pratunam, etc, we need to brace through the heavy traffic which can be quite dangerous. Our hotel room is in the north tower which is a long way in. Every night, we can hear the water flushing in the bathroom throughout the night, think it's the water pipe behind the toilet bowl that's making the noise. On our last night, there's a noise that sound like the opening of the hotel lock which lasted throughout the night too. Other than that, we had a good stay.

Room Tip: Most taxi/tuktuk drivers don't know about this hotel since it's too new. Be prepared to have...
