“Stayed at both North Wing and Main Wing”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

I decided to stay at The Berkeley for mainly it's close proximities for high end and bargain shopping. It is also amidst the great variety and buzzing street food. On our first leg of our Thailand trip we stayed inthe North Wing ( I call it the forgotten wing). It is cheaper to stay in compared to the luxury main wing. Yes, you need to take two separate lifts to get there, however that's no issue as you walk everywhere in BKK. However, the rooms are huge! But it does lack the fine finishes ie the tiles on the bathroom sink are not entirely complete or perfect. The hallway in the north wing are not airconditioned. Hence I call it the forgotten wing. Breakfast was wonderful. Lots of varieties ranging from America, Asian (Thai, Indian, Indonesian and Japanese) food. Great tasting and definitely worth purchasing with your room online.
On our return to BKK, I chose to stay in the Main Wing (known as the luxury wing where you only need one lift to your floor). Absolutely worth the little extra more! Such a contrast to the north wing. The room was gorgeous, carefully decorated and made to feel more luxurious. Bathroom and bedroom is large and very comfortable. Hallways are airconditioned! I'd recommend the main wing, for that little extra, it's way ahead in terms of value. I'd definitely return to the Berkeley. Staying in the main wing of course, ask for the high floor. The view is worth it. The foyer had a lovely pianist playing whilst you enjoy a lovely cocktail and do some people watching. The only issue was the plumbing in our bathroom. After a shower the water on the bathroom floor flooded with excess water to another area of the bathroom. Quite a minor issue but one that management needs to look at. Please also note: if you decide to ask concierge at the hotel front for a taxi, ensure that you FIRMLY state to the guy at the hotel you want a "metered taxi". They will try and pass a taxi that's waiting nearby that are not metered and are associated with them for commission purpose. However if you state firmly, only metered taxi, they will fetch for you. They just want to see whether you would know or not. But quite helpful but be firm. Taxi metered in bkk is cheap, never take one that isn't running its meter. Going to airport, please remember to do the same. They tried to get me a non metered taxi for 500 baht and I refused. So they had to hail down a metered one for me. Total to Suvarnabhumi airport was 250 baht on metered taxi. Be firm and confident and you will be right. Enjoy BKK, we were there between 4 June to 14 June 2014. Peaceful and no protest in sight where we were.

Room Tip: High floor in main wing for your convenience

This is a fairly new hotel and the have been running some deals on price. Good location if you want to shop at the world centre mall, but a bit far for night life if Bangkok if that is what you want.
Hotel friendly, breakfast very good but pay for the buffet as the will be move and will come from buffet. Good night sleep and room has everything you want.

This is the place you want to stay if you do not want to be bothered with taking BTS / MRT anywhere in BKK and yet want to be near major shopping! In view and within walking distance are the Platinum Mall, Central World Plaza, Siam Paragon, Shibuya 19, Big C supermarket and right next door, attached to the hotel is Palladium - which was where the street stalls outside the hotel, came from, in the evening.

Was a bit hesitant when I read the mixed reviews, but because our friends had already made the booking and we wanted to stay together, we jumped on the bandwagon and as it turns out, it wasn't that bad.

Breakfast buffet was okay. Generally, as creatures of habit, we tend to eat the same old breakfast items mostly, so we didn't mind that there was little variation in the variety from day to day. We particularly enjoyed the Asian / Thai items, e.g., fried rice, stir-fried vegetables, stir-fried glass noodles and the congee and noodle soup. The bread items were quite delicious as well and we loved their waffles.

Cleanliness wise, we were hugely disappointed. Upon check-in, the carpet on the floor had crumbs, a lot of hair from different folk and we even found a dried mangosteen under the 2-seater sofa in our room.

Beds and bedding were clean. Bathroom was clean also, but when we first ran the bath for my baby, the water came out brown. It was okay after a while.

Contrary to what some other reviewers had said, we were checked-in really quickly. Perhaps maybe it was because we had an infant. Staff at reception and the bell captain were really friendly.

Room Tip: Pick the main tower. More convenient.

We stayed 5 nights at this hotel and found the experience very enjoyable. The quality of food and service was very good and at reasonable prices. Good choice of food at breakfast, room standard was good.

Checking out was time consuming as the reception area does not seem to cope well with the volume of customers, but other than that a really good hotel ! Would definitely stay there again as we will be in Bangkok again this September.

Room Tip: There are two towers - one tower is accessed by a lift to floor 11, then walking about 100 mtrs to...

Myself and my friend are travelling Thailand and started at this hotel - pure luxury. We stayed in the North Tower which is actually fine as that's where the 2 swimming pools are located (The pool has towels for you to use)
The room was spacious, modern and had everything you could possibly need - robes, hair dryer, bottles of water etc. The air con is fantastic just a bit loud.
The location is good as not near the main tourist bit which can get a bit hectic but about 10mins in a taxi.
We paid £40 a night (£20 per person) which was great value for money. It was a nice feeling returning to the hotel after the huddle and biddle of Bangkok.

We booked a luxury corner room which occupied by 2 adults and 2 kids (Double beds)

We spent 4 nights at this hotel and requested to change to another similar room becos the neighbors are extremely noisy. The staff are very efficient and fulfill our request within 15mins and get a bell boy to carry our luggage story another room.

Good location as it is near to Central World, Platinum Mall and other shopping centers.

Definitely value for money ;)

Will stay in this hotel again :)

The Berkeley Hotel in Pratunam does live up to it's 5 star status however I would rate the hotel's service a 4/5.

We loved the Berkeley for these reasons, it is perfectly located in the centre of the shopping mecca of Bangkok, it is close to the BTS Skytrain which links to the airport, the rooms are large, the hotel has great amenities and a wonderful rooftop pool- perfect for sundowners.

We would stay at the Berkeley again for sure.
