Houses from Ayuthaiya transported to Bangkok owned by Jim Thompson, a Western legend in Thailand. Inside there is a small art collection and you know how he lived. In front at the same area is a huge Jim Thompson brand clothes shop. Nothing too special. Go there if you have enough time to dispend, if not there is a lot of more interesting places to go in Bangkok.

I love this house, its garden, ambience, setting, store, and restaurant. The restaurant and cafe there is so nice, look over a fish pond and a beautiful house by the river. The food, drinks and dessert was so good. Jim Thompson brand has its own unique style and culture in everything it does.

We visited the Jim Thompson House as a stop on a private day tour. My friend and I were so amazed by this place. The visit is provided by staff at the Jim Thompson house which made it that much more informative. This is a beautiful example of traditional Thai style house but with a few 'western' additions. The house is full of impressive asian antiques.

This is a short tour but definitely worth while. We also had lunch in the restaurant - a great thai meal. And save some time to spend in the shop. They have beautiful silk products, prices to satisfy all wallets.

Get here first thing in the morning before it is crowded. This man was into thai silk and lived in this house which he created by linking old houses already there with other old houses in the thai style which he transported there from other parts of the country to make the large home in which he lived. As an architect by profession he did a really tasteful job and further enhanced the place by furnishing it with wonderful old thai objects and furnishings sympathetic to the thai way of living. The only exception to this was his dining table. He eschewed dining on the floor thai style and formed his rectangular dining table by placing two antique mahjong tables side by side.
The house is seen by a formal tour which was excellent. There is a wonderful shop in which you can purchase the silk wares - irresistable.

We did not see more than a handful of these types of old structures in Thailand during 3 weeks of travel and were glad to have visited the Jim Thompson home to get an appreciation of what Thai houses look(ed) like. The complex is surrounded by beautiful gardens and the tours through the house are well organized.
