“The River of Kings - The Chao Phraya”

Great river activity at all times, all sizes and uses vessels engaged in river traffic. Always enchanting to be on the river in river taxi or restaurant boat or sitting riverside at hotel verandas to watch all sorts of vessels plying the river.

“Muddy Old River? Murray Head was wrong, this is great”
Reviewed 20 May 2013

One of the best ways to explore the historic center is the speedboat on Chao Phraya River. It costs very little and as the name already suggests, it is speedy.
You will most likely stand between other tourists, locals, and the occasional monk. If you stand close to the sides, you will get wet, but in Bangkok's fantastic climate everything dries quickly (Germs? Who cares? Have a Singha and calm down).
You will see an amazing array of traditional temples, modern and ancient residential building, mega-hotels, and river life from the small longtail boat to bigger ships.
Fantastic - you will not often have so much fun & travel value for so little money.

“Nice trip away from the busy centre”
Reviewed 16 May 2013

By taking the boat from the Thaksin pier under the BTS station, you can escape the busy traffic of BKK just for a few baht.
For just a couple of box you can enjoy the river from the boat and see a totally different aspect of the city.
You can take the boat all the way to the notorious Bangkok Hilton prison, and get a glimpse of the surroundings before catching the boat back.

“The boat ride”
Reviewed 9 May 2013

It was brilliant, we took a ferry ride from Sathorn to go to Grand Palace one morning. The river life is interesting, you can see some poverty of old houses, places by the river, then with a blink of an eye, you see luxurious malls and tall Hotel buildings. There are temples along the Chao Phraya River, so the ferry ride is interesting and a great way to get from A to B.
