“Your spot for access to most of the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2013

For our blogs first hotel review we couldn't have asked for a better place. The staff were open to our evaluation and I assure you that their kindness did not create a bias towards our review.

The Krungkasem Srikrung Hotel of Bangkok is 40 years old and is located at 1860 Krungkasem Road, Pomprah, Bangkok. It has 120 rooms that start at a single room w/ shower (1 double bed) and go up to a triple room w/ bathtub (3 single beds). All of the rooms have air conditioning, private bathroom, tables, writing desks, bathroom amenities (towel, soap, tissue paper). More importantly, the rooms are clean and there is free WIFI in the lobby and restaurant (there will be WIFI in the whole hotel in a few months).

The single rooms are 300 baht, if you are traveling on a budget, but want to have your own bathroom and A/C in your own personal room. This is an incredible deal considering most places are 400 bahts for a single bed that is within a dormitory style room and a shared bathroom. This hotel offers a cheaper rate for your own private room with private bath. This is the best and most valuable offer for this type of traveling.

The main benefit of the hotel is absolutely its location. There are a few notable locations very close to the hotel.

The first is China Town, which as we mentioned earlier, contains several amazing temples. China Town is also a great place for food and shopping and there are a few party spots, as well.

The next two are the Krungkasem road and the Phadung Krungksem Canal. The road was built in 1892 under King Rama V and took 6 years to complete. The Canal is the division between the old city of Bangkok and the new. It was registered as one of Bangkok's historic sites in 1976.

I saved the last historic site for last because it is the main benefit of the hotel. The Bangkok Railway Station is not only a historic landmark, but provides access to most of the city and happens to be right across from the hotel. You can use the rails for longer travels or the subway to get to most sections of the city. This makes the hotel a great choice for people who are looking to see more of Bangkok with ease. If we were staying longer, we certainly would have reaped the benefits much more than.

Below I have included some pictures to give you some visual representation of the hotel.

This was copied and pasted from our blog called Nomadic Adaptation. We are traveling through Southeast Asia now and plan to review as many hotels, restaurants and activities and will be posting brief reviews on tripadvisor because it has helped is so much in the past.

Room Tip: If you are traveling alone the single rooms for 300 baht are a great deal.

The hotel is literally only 2 minutes walk from the train station. Good service and good price. Reception staff is kind and helpfull. The restaurant has free wifi, but the food is rather boring. Our room was nice and clean and overlooking the station.

We arrived by train from Chiang Mai and we catching the train the next day to Penang so this hotel was very convenient. Just a cross the street from the station. Room was nice sized, good TV,AC, hot water and a free breakfast. The WIFI leaves a lot to be desired. No WIFI in the room and the lobby WIFI is the worst I have had in Asia. Staff was helpful and stored our luggage free of charge for a few hours. The hotel also is only about 10 minute walk to Chinatown. The price was 750 baht. Good price for the convenience.

750 baht for a double room with tv and excellent shower. Got a room away from the facade and train station which was quieter.
free breakfast worth 2x120 baht - and free luggage storage in the day - very good.

Stayed on an overnight going from chiang mai to phuket.

Room Tip: Get one facing away from the facade as they are quieter

I have been staying at this Hotel for more years that i care to remember and always had a pleasant stay. I found most of the desk staff didn't want to be there and it showed. I always found the staff in the restaurant and on the landings kind, courteous and pleasant. 2012 prices went up and quality and standards went down.. The location is excellent and allows you easy access to all transport.local and tourist. I always liked sitting on the baloney having a coffee and chilling as the World went by. There was a niceness to the place not anymore sadly. Everything is now centered around getting your Dollar. The front desk staff tried to charge me 50 Bath for leaving my laptop plugged in although the electricity powers off automatically when you leave the room and take your room key. That put me in bad mood for a bit i must say. Portions in the restaurant have got smaller and more expensive but still very tasty and the big guy that serves you is a gentleman and part of the furniture from what i see. The area has many nice places to stay.

Room Tip: The front lower can be noisy but the view is not so good from the back rooms.

A miracle! I came here for the first time, after I escaped from Burma, in August 1988(yes I am old now). I came back each and every year:25 years in a row.
They always serve me well: when they see me from a far distance, they run to pick up my luggage...
The hotel is changing now:room rates, unchanged last 20 years, are up but breakfast is included in the price since May 2012. The difference us small.
Rooms are cheapest mid week and go up during the weekend. Rates are now 700-1000 baht for a double with shower, and you pay 50 baht more if you want a bathtub.
Room facilities have also changed: satelite tv, free bottled water, electric kettle with free coffee/thea, Rooms are large, technical problems are solved within minutes, you still can keep your luggage there for a few days to go up country, and their safety boxes are still available at the reception.
Location is great:200 meters fron the railwaystation(Hualampong), 220 meters from the MRT,250 meters from busline terminal 25(going to Ekkamai for busses to Pattaya)400 meters away from Chinatown if you use their back-entrance, the Golden Buddha is around the corner...
Now that budget airlines(Air Asia!) intend to use the former airport Don Muang again starting October 2012, it will be easy to get to the hotel from both airports. At Don Muang you cross the street to go to the local railway station or you go to bus 29; both bring you to their terminal opposite the Krung Kasem for just a few baht.
Don't misunderstand me: the Krung Kasem is an old budget hotel, mainly visited by Asian tourists... but my memories are made of this; and I always feel back at home at once,

Room Tip: rooms at the back of the hotel; higher floor (5th floor)
