It is always a must when in Bangkok that we go by long tail-boat to the klongs, the man-made network of canals where modern development did not take place. Cruising through the klongs you get a real sense of how people in Bangkok used to live and still do live . in shacks, old wooden townhouses and dilapidated lean-tos. A tour to the Klongs can be highly recommended and a must-do.

We took an hour long boat trip that ended at Wat Arun. It was very enjoyable to see the typical Thai homes along the water the multitude of temples and the vendors who rowed up to our boat offering drinks and souvenirs. It was a nice respite from the heat of the day as the breeze from the water was cooling. You sit low in the boat but it offers a nice perspective of this part of the city. I recommend it

Floating market was our goal! This is what we bought a trip to! 3000 baht for a vip experience! We refused and gave 1500. Then we ended up in a boat full of other people, was sailed around some various canals. An Indian couple were told they could see the King’s palace but neither did we see any of the things we were told. We complained not to see any floating market when we got back but the captain showed us the can of Nescafé we bought from two miserable small boats in the canals and shouted “yes floating market” 😂😂😂 what an absolute joke! See the image. What a floating market(sense the irony)
So lesson do not trust strangers in Thailand. They send you to crappy tours or tailors etc. beware what you are doing and go by yourself to the big places. Do not take advise from the “friendly” Thais that are so conveniently there!!

Avoid a rip off. 500 Bath maximum for 1,5 hour. I recommend to book a tour in a small tour Office and not in the hotel. Try to see the fleet market in the weekend.

A great way to see both the city and the main canals. You can find them covered if it is too hot. Smaller ones can negotiate the small canals but this is a great and inexpensive way to tour the "venice" of the east city. You can get them guided or unguided depending upon your preference.
