“Wonderful guest house, but ruined by the staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2010

We decided to book 3 nights at Tavee and we received the room number 2, which was lovely, perfectly clean (it is one of the strongest points of Tavee: everything is perfectly clean) and new. The bathroom is perfect, hot and cold water, you receive clean towels and soap, everything is proper. The price was ok, 700 baths for one night, breakfast not included. The street is very quiet, no noisy as in Kao san road for example, the food was really great and cheap, so don t hesitate to eat at their restaurant, for the breakfast the portions are huge! you are 200 meters from a bus stop and from the river, with a boat stop. we took a lot of taxis, so cheap and easier to get to a skytrain station and join the center of the town.
the weaknesses now: the walls are like paper, very thin so we heard voices, steps in the first floor, and the noises in the kitchen next to the room. We used ear plugs and it was fine. the worst thing of this guest house was the staff: we arrived and were received so coldly, the woman at the reception is so unpleasant! she never smiles and make you feel like you disturb her all the time. the rest of the staff was ok, no smiling at all but it was ok, but this woman... ouch. the only person who was really nice was the man who stays at the reception at night. He does not speak english, but what a smile he does to you!
all in all, I recommend strongly this place for the quality of the rooms, the cleanliness and the good food, but don t expect anything pleasant from the staff.

The Tavee guest house is a great little place, tucked away behind a leafy entrance on a quiet street north of Banglamphu. It is situated behind Sri Ayuttaya Guest House, (which was being refurbished when we visited), which is in the lonely planet guide. Tavee is operated by the same family, and is perfect if you don't want to drink your own bodyweight every night and prefer some chilled nightlife instead of the Khao San Road.

What a great place and location! Right off the Chao Praya River, and short bus rides to the major bus stations it was tremendously convenientl. The staff was amazing, their restaurant reasonable and delicious, and I was able to leave my luggage secure in a room and travel not only around Thailand, but even when I left for a month to Cambodia, then again to Laos. Highly recommend it as the place to land and lay your head - and for Ko Sahn road is only a 20 minute walk.

When arriving at the airport, take taxi to sri ayuttha near the dock Rayon.

Happy travels!

The family who own it are lovely, the staff and cleaner are great and the rooms are of an excellent standard. Its the best place in the street, Shanti guest house next door is noisy, overrun and staff are rude (but go there to eat their food is great). There is a 711, good food and ATM on the street and it is near the bus and best of all one block away from the river so you can catch the ferry to Ko San, The Royal Palace or the BTS

  • Liked — The safety, security and owners make it feel like you're part of the family
  • Disliked — The stairs, not lifts, but this is standard in guest houses

A friendly and well run guest house. The best rooms (still cheap) were smart and comfortable and the location set back from the main road ensured a peaceful night with no loss of convenience!
