This hostel was great from the friendly owners to the location and the rooms. Everything was really clean and all the beds have access to little pockets and night lights which is handy. They have sturdy lockers to keep all of your valuables and Kevin does cycle tours in the evening. Its a stones throw away from Khao San Road (5-10mins) but quieter to sleep. It really was an oasis away from the madness of Bangkok! I met some great people here and you won't find nicer, more helpful owners. A fantastic stay that is highly recommended!

Ive been backpacking in SE Asia for 6 months and can say hands down Born Free has been one of, if not THE best hostel experiences i have had thus far. Bangkok can be crazy and i usually am only in town for a day or two en route to another location, but Born Free made me want to spend time in Bangkok. The couple who run the place are SOLID. I was constantly given suggestions on better places to go, cheaper ways to get there, etc which is clutch while backpacking in a big city. Just the feel of the place is the best part. Im no raging 19 year old so sometimes hostels can really ware me out. But i was in a 10 bed dorm and slept soundly everynight, met other chill travelers, and really enjoyed myself. They had a movie night in the hostel one night and we pretty much all stayed in to hang out and watch, which would never happen in some of the other raging hostels ive visited. And beyond that the spirit of the place is just solid. There are bikes available to ride around on for free, there is beer available at the hostel that is a couple cents more expensive than a 7-11 instead of 3x the price. Like i said above, i can be picky sometimes, but Born Free really nails it on all fronts.

Kevin and his partner are truly amazing people, they will help you out with any information or bookings you need and make sure you dont get scammed by local touts and tuk-tuks. The hostel is close enough to Khao San Road to walk there (about 5 minutes) and enjoy the crazy, roudy scene, but far enough away that it is a nice, quiet place to relax. There are lots of really cheap and good places to eat close by, and hostel guests are always joining together for dinners and outings, so you'll never be alone if you dont want to be. Wifi is the best Ive found in Thailand, comon area is cozy and inviting, free bikes to ride around plus a cool bike tour if you want. The rooms are comfortable and clean with your own plug. The air con room is fantastic, but the fan room is really great too, heaps of ceiling fans and each lower bunk has their own personal fan. There is soap and shampoo in the bathrooms, which is amazing, a washing machine you can use for cheap, and clothing lines on the balconies to dry your things. Lockers are available and the staff are super nice to let you leave your bags for the day or even a few days if you need. A truly lovely place to stay, my Bangkok home :)

AMAZING: Arrived earlier than thought, and they let me crash in the lounge area which I really appreciated. Not many hostels have a kitchen in Asia so this one is a luxury. Fridge too. Very helpful owner and staff- they answered about a million questions without getting impatient! Book exchange and soap in bathrooms. Tp as well. (Thank goodness.) Individual sockets for each bed- score! Lockers on floor three. Maps and books available. Great location, peaceful but still near Khao San Road. Staff has information on buses. They even kept my luggage while I went away for a few nights and that was so helpful! Also they have free bicycles for guest use.

Okay: Bathroom on 2 out of 4 floors. Wifi at 80%. May be my iPhone though. Others had no problem.

Bad: Not much. Cats' litterbox smells a bit. Basically had a trouble-free stay.

Would not stay anywhere else!

Basic but nice. Close enough to Khao San Rd. to experience it, but far enough away to escape its insanity. The owners are very helpful and knowledgeable. The beds are clean (outlets by all the beds) and each person gets a large locker for their valuables.
The bathrooms are clean, but tiny and a bit strange. Shampoo and soap is provided.
My only complaint is that my pillow was a blow-up pillow and very uncomfortable.
