We have stayed here before and find it to be a good low budget price for Bangkok (don't compare it with Chiang Mai, the costs are all lower there). On our most recent stay we noticed they have added foam mattress toppers to the extra-firm beds. This was a delightful surprise as most Thai hotel beds are as hard as a floor. The comfortable topper made our sleep-quality excellent!

As always, we found our room clean and the daily cleaning service very good. We requested a room with a hot shower, which costs about $23 US per night at current exchange rates; there are cheaper rooms available without a private hot shower. The bathroom is typical Asian style with the toilet, sink and shower all in the same area. We find this in guesthouses and apartments all over Asia...from Bangkok to Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, China...etc.

The area is off the beaten trail and a map is needed to get there by taxi. A map can be printed from www.ktguesthouse.com . The rates are clearly published on that site also. The food in the restaurant is good local fare and fairly priced. Internet is available for a small fee, but it is very, very slow, which is our main complaint with KT Guesthouse.

Room Tip: Request a private bath with hot shower.

We stayed here after arriving in Bangkok straight off a 24 hour journey. KT guesthouse seems to be on the right side of Bangkok for avoiding the worst of the traffic and our jouney took about 30 minutes from the airport. Staff were welcoming and showed us to our room which was clean and had a private bathroom. The guesthouse is well organised with maps and instructions to the closest metro station (about 10 minute walk then 20 mins into centre of Bangkok), the names of various attractions/places written in Thai to give to taxi drivers and has a copy of a map to the guesthouse written in Thai on it's website which was invaluable when getting a taxi from the airport. We chose to stay here again at the end of our trip around Thailand due to the excellent service, value for money and location.

I would recommend KT Guesthouse to anyone travelling on a budget. The rooms are clean and tidy, the restaurant has a good selection of Thai and token western menu, the hotel staff are helpful too. The pool is great for cooling off in and was clean and tidy when I used it. Very impressive collection of fish in the lobby too. Access to the Skytrain and public transport isn't bad - there are maps and help provided by the hotel. Nearby area is ok - plenty of food stalls and internet cafes to use. Would definitely use KT again in future.

Room Tip: Use nearby internet cafes not hotel rates

Not my first time to stay at KT but my last as i had £1000 stolen from my room police involved ---they tried to blame my companion but on reflection could only have been a member of staff ---so plese be careful --i had to have cash ready as they do not accept credit cards I wonder why??

After an exhausting flight I was pleased to see that KT Guesthouse is still there, open day and night, to welcome a tired traveler. I have stayed at this lovely guesthouse on many occasions over the last 3 years (approx 7 visits to Bangkok), I stay here at the beginning and end of each journey so have spent many nights here.

KT is always comfortable (all Thai beds are firm, get used to it), convenient ( tuk tuk to station or taxi out the front of KT), friendly (Nit and her staff will go out of their way to help with directions and information) and really affordable (approx AUD $20 per night). It is always clean and has the best swimming pool and the restaurant staff will always do their best to feed you and for only a few baht.

For those people who under-rate this guesthouse, have a look at what you get for AUD $20 per night elsewhere. I see that some tourists have compared what they get at KT to what you get in regional areas in Thailand. You can not compare this to Chiangmai or other holiday locations, that would be like comparing what you pay in Sydney central to a regional area for price and amenities. This is Bangkok, it is by nature more expensive to stay here and you certainly wont get better value for money in the city with a pool.

Huay Kwang is a vibrant inner city suburb with all the daily goings on that you would expect in a SE Asian country. Being in the suburbs and away from the real tourist traps (and whingeing tourists) is so much more enjoyable and KT is just a short ride on the subway or taxi to get to all the sights. I highly recommend this guesthouse for the traveller who loves honest, affordable accommodation without the crap that is associated with the normal tourist hype. Be a traveller not a tourist, enjoy what Thailand has to offer. Stay at KT for sure!

One more thing for those tourists who have trouble with the staff not quite understanding English, I suggest you learn Thai, you are after all in Thailand! (by the way Nit has excellent English language skills)

Well they say first impressions count so on that basis i have to say this K.T Guest house isn't too bad,but far from perfect!
There were several members in our group when we stayed at the K.T guest house so we were ladden with lots of heavy luggage when we arrived!
The reception area appeared clean ,but sadly the lady receptionist only spoke only a few English words,( luckily my wife speaks fluent Thai).
Rooms were sorted out for us very quickly and we were told we would be on the top floor(4 th),which meant humping all our luggage up four flights of steps as there was no lift!(Not easy after a 14 hour flight)!
One male staff member carried one of our bags for us,but that was as good as it got i must admit!
Furthermore, the receptionist informed us that to have a TV in our rooms an extra charge would be added(please bear this in mind if you have children)!
The rooms appeared cleaned and tidy(but don't check under furniture like my wife did as you will find years of dust, lol)!
There were towels and soap was also supplied!
Air conditioning was addequate.
Beds are firm to say the least(think of the Flintstones and you get the picture) and the pillows are even firmer(i ended up with neck ache)!
The showers are ok,but certainly not 'hot' and not the most powerful ones we've come across!
The female cleaners who come round each morning do an excellent job of keeeping rooms clean/tidy and doing your laundry and are a credit to the Guest house, unlike some of the male staff members who just just seemed to stroll around all day dishing out orders to female staff members in between snoozing periods!lol!
There is a restuarant in the lobby area(where English language newspapers are provided daily) and the food is pretty decent and prices reasonable(but much cheaper and tastier if you venture out onto the streets surrounding the Guest house)!
There is a small swimming pool provided but parents with children please be aware that the water is very deep so keep an eye on your children while they use it!
The Guest house describes itself as being in a quiet residential area!!!!!!!
It isn't!
Traffic noise in virtually non-stop as you are pretty close to a main road that takes you to the local market and the Subway station which is a good 15 minute walk away on some of the most dangerous side walks/pavements i have come across,so again if you have kids you will have to frequently walk on the main road due to the condition of the side walks/pavements ,which when you see and smell the noise and pollution of an endless stream of motor vehcles you won't do lightly!(The standard of driving is poor to say the least,so you have been warned)!
Another thing, make sure that when you venture out ,take a map of where the guest house is cos every tuk tuk driver and taxi driver we used didn't have a clue where the guest house was!
The guest house will provide you with an excellent choice of paperwork/cards to help you navigate you way back to the guest house!
So that is it really, the K.T guest house is average to good in my opinion, but for the prices they charge they should include a TV in all rooms and provide a light breakfast!
We also stayed at the Diamond Hotel in Chiang Mai which was immaculate, had river views, lifts, lots of staff to cater for you every need,+breakfast included and smack bang in the middle of Chiang Mai for just 500 baht a night!!!
So as you can see,the K.T guest house prices are not as competitive as you would think, but all in all i have to say i would recommend it as place to stay only if you need to be in that particular area for a reason as it hasn’t got any tourist attractions as such, but does have the Subway train station which leads you to all the places you would like to see for a very reasonable 120/140 baht a day pass!!
I think K.T should stand for keep trying, but given time and effort(plus a few bahts),it can improve on a sound base!
Sorry if i've made any grammar errors, but i am writing this having just come off a 13 hour flight from Thailand!
Goodnight,i'm off to bedzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Liked — The female cleaners!!!!!
  • Disliked — The male staff are lazy in my opinion!
