I got to Villa Phra Sumen early. Just for your information, the taxi ride is off meter and a flat rate of 450 THB. The friendly staff was able to check me in early which was very helpful. They also offer free shuttle to The Grand Palace. They asked for a deposit for the room key card so have some money already available for that. It is refunded upon check out. I was walked up to my room by the staff to make sure that the room was satisfactory. The room was very nice. Concrete floors and wood beams gave it a modern look. The bathroom had a waterfall shower which was so nice, and the wonderful tile added a nice touch. After a quick shower, I took the shuttle to The Grand Palace. If there wasn't traffic it would be a quick five minute drive, but it is Bangkok so traffic is inevitable. The shuttle driver was very helpful in showing me a walking path to get back to the hotel. After the Grand Palace I got a Tuk Tuk and toured around the area for 40 THB, and went back to the hotel. The hotel is very near to the Golden Mount as well as other temples. Very convenient. When I returned to the hotel, I asked suggestions for dinner. They suggested Khao San Road which was a nice 10 minute walk. The hotel is very safe. There was always an attendant outside the main door and you had to use your key card to get in. For families, there is a play set in the main area near the open air lobby. I highly recommend this hotel.
